I was lucky to have an early appt. The patient ahead of me cancelled, so I waited maybe 5 mins. before going to the exam room. Dr. Michener came in maybe 10 mins. later and gave an extremely thorough exam. I had three areas attended to, little to no pain. The nurse and doctor were both very pleasant and professional. I waited in line at the Alaska Center for Dermatology drive in. Gave them my information and money. Dr came in and told me I had french fries and a burger. Didn't tell me anything about my french fries and burger, just that I had them. I wanted to ask, Are these good french fries and burger? What if I don't eat them, will I go hungry and regret it? Will my stomach ache if I DO eat them? After 10 minutes, he and cashier subtly backed toward the door. Neither asked if I wanted ketchup or extra napkins. I ate the french fries and burger. In a week I should know if it was a good idea. read more

The office and assistants here are stretched very thin and patient/doctor communication is poor. I've been here a few times for skin checks and mole removals. The most recent pathology report is unintelligible, with no common language summary. I can use google, and I figured it out, but that's just further evidence of poor clinic management. I've been to AK Center for Dermatology three times now and am quite pleased with them! Quick check-in and all of the paperwork can be done online to make it even more efficient!! Their office space is huge and if someone didn't walk you back to the front, you may get lost. Each time they have been extremely prompt, getting me back and taken care of at the time of my appointment, rather than later, like so many other doctors. I really like Dr. Bidinger and am pleased with his care! He's removed a couple spots that were questionable and also brief cosmetic procedures as well. He's thorough and quick, along with being gentle and having excellent bedside manner! I would absolutely recommend him in a heartbeat! I also have a dear friend that actually referred me to them who has had Mohs surgery done on his face and you're unable to see any trace of the surgery... no mark from stitches, nothing! This is a top rated clinic that offers services in both medical and cosmetic dermatology . I like everything about this place . All the staff is friendly and competent . It's even easy to get someone on the phone if I'm making an appointment or have a question about my visit . (That is rare today )The clinic is well designed and the art is light hearted and fun . So, I have skin issues and couldn't get in to see my dermatologist for a few weeks and I was able to get in here the next morning. Checked in for my appointment at 8:15AM, but wasn't called back until after 8:30. Kinda lame. The kind doctor reviewed everything and prescribed 3 different medications. Less than 10 minutes of care resulted in $290. Ouch. Liked the staff though and will come again when in need. read more

I have received excellent treatment at ACD. From the front desk to my exit. Dr. Moreland is the physician I go to and he is wonderful. He provides a friendly relaxed environment for the exam. I have had a skin cancer spot removed and other minor items addressed. I was comfortable having Dr. Moreland doing each procedure. He cares about the wellbeing of his patients and answers all questions and clearly tells you what he is going to do during the procedure before he starts. Maybe my expectations were too high? But my appointment itself felt rushed. It was maybe 5 minutes with the PA. Grabbed hair at the ends and lifted to look at 2 spots (on the scalp) I was able to point out for concern, got diagnosed and told what to do, and then it was, "Anything else?" As someone who was coming here for a 2nd opinion when my PCP pretty much gave me the same quick analysis, I was a little disappointed. I guess I was just hoping that more time would be taken to thoroughly go over my concern. When you have an issue and live with it for so long, feel embarrassed about it, and finally have the nerve to seek help...it's a little disappointing to feel dismissed so quickly. I don't know if it's because it's a "less serious" diagnosis than other patients that need more attention, or if it's so common that they can just diagnose it on the fly and send people on their merry way. But for some people, that works for them. The place itself was nice and clean, and seems to stay busy. The front desk staff were very nice and it was cool to be able to just have the insurance billed so I can leave after the appointment. But I almost feel like I wasted the PROVIDER'S time by making my appointment. And that's not how anyone should feel. read more

A full body check is not a pleasant experience but it is a necessity if you have a history of skin cancer. Dr. Covington answered all my questions and knows what she's doing. When I had the balls to ask for someone else i was told to wait and suffer- almost losing my job because my feet were about bloody and Pustular psoriasis making my skin bubble. They will take payments and apply then to past things needed and not update someone that they owe X amount extra. And today I discovered if you are private insurance you get to go to the front of the line no matter how long others are waiting in line to pay. read more

Absolute worst admin team at following up. You schedule appointments, they give you a date, you go in, they then give you prescriptions that they can't fill and won't call to give updates. I went in November of 2021 and it's now February of 2022 and they still can't fill a prescription and don't seem to know how to go about getting it accomplished. Incredibly overpriced and overrated and horrible service. Doctors leave without notice to you and you go in and you have a different doctor who tries to get up to speed and wastes your previous appointments. read more

I have been a long haul truck driver for the last 12 years. I had to take time off to get some medical help. I have suffered for a few years with gut problems and very very itchy skin sores that took forever to heal. I'm a shy person and not one to disturb the general public. Every medical provider I've encountered in Anchorage has been so kind to me. I've been unable to work while I get medical help. The shame of the skin sores and temporary unemployment makes me so humble and grateful when I get help; and I make the most of every bit of help I get. Everything was looking up until my first appointment, six weeks ago, with a specialist at the Alaska Center for Dermatology. The "dermatologist" who was to "diagnose" me came into the room, where I was sitting in a paper robe. She looked at me from three or four feet away, head back... literally down her nose. I was cowering from having not worn make up that day, leaving my sores very appearant. Her demeanor told me I was not worth looking at. She promptly told me I needed to keep my fingers off of myself implying I had done this to myself. I asked her what the cause of the itching was and why they wouldn't heal. She shook her head at me and said there was nothing she could do but reiterated that I needed to quit picking at my skin. So I asked her if she was talking about formication (which is itching skin with no appearant source... any dermatologist would know this.) Her response was, "What is formication?" I didn't answer her. At this point I am thinking she needs a book of basic dermatology terms and a therapist to work out her disdain for her job. She was somehow both incompetent and haughty. I felt very confused, judged, and humiliated. The young intake assistant was also there during this exchange so this "dermatologist" was teaching by example. I saw (I assume) the assistant nervously trying look up the term on her phone. All this occurred within five minutes for an appointment that I had waited for over a month. I got up bare assed naked and dropped that paper robe right in front of them. I put my clothes on as fast as I could and fled that office. They billed Medicaid for this visit. They hurt me by embarrassing me and added insult to injury by sending me a bill for three dollars. They are lucky I didn't file a fraud charge with Medicaid. I got a second opinion elsewhere; and it turned out I had herpetiformis from a severe gluten allergy. I was instructed to remove gluten from my diet; and since then my skin has cleared and my stomach is healing. I am grateful and relieved. I definitely recommend Alaska Center for Dermatology if you want to be traumatized by a "dermatologist". read more

I went to see Dr. McLeish last summer with an eczema issue on my hands. She basically said "stop washing your hands so much and rub this (lotion) on it". I thought it was a bit weird, but OK. Well, the salve she prescribed basically worked... for a time. The eczema would go away, and then come back again. On a friends suggestion, I went over to Avante for an IGG Allergy screening (a simple blood draw), and as it turns out, I have multiple food sensitivities. Not once did McLeish mention allergies as a possibility. My guess is they would've wanted me to keep coming back for more appointments, more prescriptions, when all I really needed to do was change my diet. I've had to cut out eggs, peanuts, and most cows' milk products, which... yes... sucks. Big time. But, the eczema is now gone as well as a few other symptoms I didn't even really realize I had. I'm sleeping better, for one. And I've lost 20 pounds since then... yay!! I would recommend getting an allergy screening done first... then, if you still have a skin issue, go somewhere else. read more

Hard to get an appointment because they're the only good place in town, but man is it worth the wait. I was so freaking impressed with Dr. Moore and her support staff including the PA she was training and her medical assistant. Her medical assistant is one sweet lady, and Dr. Moore is a great doctor. She's the first medical provider who I've seen (out of about 5 now-- functional medicine, family medicine, an NP, another dermatologist in town and an allergist) who actually LOOKED at my scalp when I was complaining about it burning. She immediately recommended a biopsy and discovered that I have an autoimmune disease. Glad we figured it out, though a little disappointed that no-one else along the way took me seriously. She's a great doctor and Alaska is lucky to have her. read more

My consult and procedure done by Dr. Ehrnstrom was informative and professional. He answered all my questions and was reassuring about the procedure. AK center for dermatology has been extremely frustrating. Ive been in to see the Dr twice and spent MAYBE a whole 5 minutes talking to her. Total. She prescribed treatments that lasted 3 minutes 2x per week and my portion was $121.00 each time. After all of that, it turns out my problem was a drug reaction and could have been fixed if she'd just asked me about my medical history. And! I just got a bill from a different dr that I never saw for a service I never got. Plus their billing department isn't answering the phone despite the fact that they're still open. read more

Went here and saw Stephanie (last name I can't remember). I waited over 30 minutes to be seen. She comes in and does a quick look and tells me it's hormonal, says she will prescribe a birth control for me and it will help. I pick up my birth control from the pharmacy and decided to look it up online to make sure it'll help my skin. For some MYSTERIOUS reason, I couldn't find anything. I decide to make an appointment with my OB/GYN and ask his opinion. He talks with me and explains some birth controls help acne and some make acne worse. He looks at the one I was prescribed by Stephanie. He tells me he doesn't know much about that one and tells me he will go look it up and see what info he can find. Within about 5 minutes, he comes back with a shocked look on his face and tells me SHE PERSCRIBED ME A BIRTH CONTROL THAT CAUSES ACNE!!!!! I'm guessing that's how she makes her money.....anyway, I call Alaska Center For Dermatology and leave a message, complaining about her. They call me back and all they had to say was "oh she is so sorry, she "accidently" prescribed the wrong birth control." Seems like a pretty huge accident/mistake to make for a dermatologist. They're supposed to help your skin but she "accidently" prescribed me a birth control that causes acne? Seems very fishy. They then tell me they will send a new prescription over for me and I declined. Don't trust Stephanie. read more

Waited about two months for an appointment because of its status as the best place in town, which was fine because I wanted to get a good second opinion about sunburns on my legs that hadn't gone away in ten months. Front desk staff and nurse were very friendly, however Kim Kinnebrew, the dermatologist who saw me, was very condescending and unhelpful. As I explained my situation, it seemed as if she saw it as an annoyance that I was giving details. She acted as if it were ridiculous for me to be worried that my sunburns still turned bright red in the heat (hot showers) after months. When asked if it would be too dangerous for me to expose my skin to hot sun, and if my skin would be as likely to turn red right away like in hot water (therefore if I would need to avoid wearing shorts), I was told to 'make my own decision as I was an adult'. read more

This is my second appointment here the first appointment didn't go good this appointment is amazing for the first time in a while I have hope he came in he looked at my body he discussed options with me we've gone over 3 treatment therapies. I am having a steroid shot today to help me I have a form of alopecia .I was very very stressed out when I got here I now feel a sense of relief . I have a different look on this office I was frustrated with my first appointment here but I feel 100% better. I saw Dr. Covington today for a myriad of scalely bumps, moles and skin tags. I got a full body exam after having grown up in the sun and on the beach in the Great Lakes State. She was super nice and very thorough. I felt gross (middle aged woman) but her and the PA totally put me at ease explaining everything I should watch for and assuring me everything was normal. The fee was neglible. $280. I expected it to be about twice that. I don't have insurance, so this was a huge relief too. I recommend Dr. Covington. The building and parking are hard to navigate with very little signage... So leave early, be forewarned. Their office is massive and very busy. I don't see a lot of expensive art work and a fancy waiting room which is fine with me as I'm sure it keeps their fees lower. Receptionists were all pleasant. read more

My parents and brother both had basal cell carcinoma, so me being fair skinned I like to go in every year and have a look over. I'm a new patient and the visit alone was $324.50. I had a reddish area on my forehead to which the doctor said was not cancerous but froze anyway ($165.54). The doctor was very nice and polite, but I believe he came in holding the nitro "gun," almost as if they like to use it whenever they can to get $200 dollars every chance they can.... be aware if they come in already holding the nitro before you even tell them what your concerns are. Lastly, I had a wart on my hand that he noticed and asked to freeze off, I said yes bc the home stuff had not worked. If I had known it was $267.52 I would have said no thank you. Maybe it's bc I have HDHP, but wowza this place was pricey! I should have asked how much items cost, it's my own fault but I think it would have been nice if they would have mentioned the cost of such items before performing them. All in all they did what was asked but at a very high cost. Roughly $700 later- I was looked over (I'm in the clear ) non cancerous forehead blemish removed and hopefully my $267 wart is gone for good. read more

I am not someone who regularly writes a review, but my experience is vastly different from those who have written negative ones and I felt the need to write. I'm an old guy who grew up on the beaches of New Jersey and because of years of sun damage I am a patient of Dr. Peter Erhnstrom. The care I have received at the Alaska Center for Dermatology and from Dr. Erhnstrom is highly professional and offers a skillful competency I have not received anywhere else. From the front desk to the last I have been treated with a good humored respect whether registering for an appointment or paying for one. My time in the waiting room has been brief, and the only times it has been longer is a procedure that has taken longer than expected for a patient before me. I don't mind the wait, because one of these days I will be the patient needing extra care. I like everyone I've met there and I particularly like and trust my doctor. read more

Let me start off by saying this is a hard review to write. I completely understand that offices are struggling right now, and things are difficult. That being said, my experience hasn't been exceptional. Pricing and billing practices are inconsistent and extremely expensive. Scheduling is difficult, as I rarely can get someone to answer the phone. I have to call several times in a row to get ahold of anyone. The check out process definitely feels cold. I definitely get the feeling they're just milling patients in and out, and I've spoken to other patients who concur. This is not a patients first practice, it's definitely financially focused. Waiting room chairs are not cleaned between patrons, they put no less than three people in the room with you for the appointment and the rooms are incredibly small. It's typically the doctor, an MA and someone taking records(?). I honestly am not 100% what the third person does, but from a patient perspective, privacy is not an option. Treatment rooms are extremely small. Overall visits feel very stressful. Visits are fast. 30 min or less from my experience, resulting in a $300.00 visit fee, give or take for insurance. Had a cyst removed here about 2 years ago and they didn't get it all, so it came back. The first time around they sent the cyst to some company back east which billed me for the lab work when everything was supposed to be through the VA. The VA sent me back a few weeks ago to get the cyst to be removed again and again they billed me for the office visit. The billing lady couldn't even give the correct dates for anything and is obviously incompetent and should be removed from the position, and the manager is just as useless. I canceled everything with this place and will just wait until I reach a location with Dr's that actually care about patients and things being done correctly. If you can and your insurance pays for it go elsewhere and save yourself the headache as this place is a joke and will likely do more harm than good. read more

This trip was a waste of my time and money, although hopefully my insurance will cover the visit which accomplished actually NOTHING! except that I need not go there again. When I made the appointment, I was asked what it was for...I told them what I wanted. When I got in to see the doctor, she said they do not do "cosmetics" and referred me to an esthetician. After more than 10 years, I decided to try another dermatologist for a couple of reasons. The front desk staff tend to ignore patients, but more importantly my doc's bedside manner was arrogant and dismissive. My GP recommended another dermatologist who immediately found a pre-melanoma that the previous doc missed, even though I had raised it as a concern. I have a history of melanoma and highly recommend Dr Janine Miller, who is very accomplished and actually likes her female patients! read more

At first, I was nervous because of all the reviews about the timeliness of the appointments. I made the earliest appointment of the day and I got in 10 minutes before my appointment time. Front desk staff was friendly and Dr. Covington was prompt. The appointment was quick about 30 minutes and she even performed a minor surgery. I asked all of my questions and I didn't feel rushed. I didn't like needles so Dr. Covington distracted me with asking question about my boy, which was nice. The nurse gave me the after-care instruction. Overall, the experience was quick and pleasant. The bill was pretty pricey because I have a high deductible insurance and deductibles were not met at the time. Appointment and minor surgery (excluding lab testing) was $430 which seems reasonable rate in Alaska. read more

I've given this office several chances. A long time ago, I said I would never "go there" again but, recently, at another Drs. suggestion, I went for a 2nd opinion. Once again, I am left feeling that all that really matters is my payment. Each time, I have been rushed through with what appeared, one time, to be anguish on Dr. Ernstrom's part that he had to listen to my issue. I want to feel that I matter. . . not just my up-front $300 payment . . .yes, up front, because I have FEP coverage. Ignore the single star, I haven't been to the center yet. This is my early reaction to the AK Center for Dermatology. I tried to get an appointment with Dr. Erhnstrom but found it would be a very long wait to see him, so I was scheduled to see another doctor in the Center. I Googled the doctor's name and nothing comes up. I found it impossible to find any information about the dermatologist I will be seeing. I cannot find a listing of the dermatologists associated with the Center. I don't know if the doctor is a male or female. I don't know how long the doctor has been practicing dermatology. I don't know what my doctor specializes in other than anonymity. Actually the AK Center for Dermatology appears to specialize in anonymity, except for Doctor Erhnstrom. I'm not sure at this point if the doctor I'm scheduled to see even exists. Why would the AK Center for Dermatology hide the names of doctors and their respective specialties? Is the Center not proud of their medical staff? Information about these doctors should be readily available to the general public. I will keep my appointment only because I'm immensely curious whether there really is a doctor by that name on staff. If I were dealing with a really serious medical issue I would never go to the Center for treatment without knowing more about the doctor that would be treating me. read more
