I've been back to Jamie and thrilled to report that she's a very talented stylist. Again, the owner was onsite and greeted me. He seems to treat his staff well and all the stylists are busy and appear very happy. I simply can't ask for anything more as a customer. I have loved James Griffith in the past. I've always seen Jill from England. She wasn't available for this visit so I had someone else but was told she was a balayage specialist. I gave her a picture of what I had hoped for knowing it wouldn't be exact and said I wanted a trim. The lady doing my hair was very nice but cut my hair off to my shoulders which was much more than a trim and the color was awful. I was charged over three hundred dollars and cried when I left. My hair had green and blue in it but was told it was from the toner and would wash out which it did a week later. I had to wear a hat every single day. Luckily, I had a lady fix it a few weeks later at a different salon but that was more money spent. I was so disappointed in my experience this past time at James Griffith. I've read reviews that said if someone complains, they're basically banned from the salon so I didn't go back but looking back I should have because it was that bad. I expect more from a high end salon. **** Edited to note that I just had a call from someone at the salon who was extremely apologetic and kind. I didn't expect to hear from anyone nevertheless have them offer to rectify the previous experience. The call in itself says a lot about the salon and their expectations. This was very much so appreciated and I do plan on going back again. I had a cut and color today with Dani. The services were very good and professional. Dani was able to match my color (I am a seasonal resident). Got all over color in may, it was expensive and didn't last very long before it faded out. Decided to wait until I returned to my hometown to get my hair done again. I called to get the formula since my salon is also aveda, yet the formulas didn't match. I paid high end prices for a professional loreal color job. I should've saved myself all that money and done it myself. I'm livid that this place is tricking people into believing they are getting an aveda experience. A bunch of liars if you ask me. I want my money back! Didn't want to give any stars but it won't post without one. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Jamie. I brought my 87 year old Mom in for a much needed haircut. I was a little afraid that the salon would be unfriendly because it looked fancy. Everyone we came in contact with was lovely. Jamie came to collect my Mom and first of all, she was polite and warm. She led us upstairs to her station and involved my Mom in an in-depth conversation about her hair, what she liked, etc. I was so impressed that Jamie asked so many questions. I would say she spent a good 10 minutes just asking questions and listening, which is so rare. After she cut her hair, she gave my Mom tips on how to style it, and then after it was blow dryed, she asked my Mom if there was any more cutting she should do. My Mom wanted the back a little "shaggier" (it was a short haircut) and Jamie made it perfect. Jamie had so much patience and kept checking in with my Mom to see how she was liking it. In addition, my Mom colors her own hair and Jamie showed her a spray on root concealer that she could use between colorings. As I looked around the salon, it seemed everyone there, stylists and clients alike looked just great! Fanastic place. Thank you Jamie! read more

I am a seasonal visitor to Venice and am delighted that I booked a haircut at James Griffith Salon. Jill C. took time to talk to me, and evaluate my hair. Then I had a shampoo that was also a relaxing scalp massage done by Dana. My haircut was perfect, and it was very clear why Jill is a senior stylist, and she certainly deserves the higher price on her service. I am disppointed to rate this salon so poorly, however, after being a loyal client for 7 years, I am amazed with the lack of customer service of this upscale salon. I sat in a chair at this salon for 7 hours, leaving with the entire crown of my hair melted off. The explaination of a misunderstanding was hard to grasp, considering I had a photo of myself in my lap that the stylist had herself created a few years back. Obviously being upset after going from blonde to dark brunette, to a mess,I left the salon, still leaving a substantial tip. I realized the next day just how much damage was done and contacted the stylist both by email and telephone. It has been 4 months and I still have not heard back even though she called me her "favorite client". I, also, have attempted to contact James, himself, on multiple occasions and still am waiting for a response. I'm sure there are great stylists there, but the Customer service of the overall company needs work. It is a great salon as long as you leave happy and doting on the establishment.
