Samba James is a big hit with my 3-year old. He's a regular guest at my son's preschool, and at birthday parties. Every time my son attends one of his performances, he's singing "Samba Samba Samba" for days! The sign of a happy child. James Henry came to our summer camp for the third summer and all the kids and parents love it. This summer James led percussion workshops with the kids and then had them perform in front of the parents. It's really amazing to see how all ages (preschool, elementary, middle school and adults) are engaged in his workshop and performance. It was wonderful to watch him working with individual children and to see how patient he is with each child. We will definitely have him back next summer. read more

My son is four years old and attends a preschool & daycare center that brings Samba James in frequently. He talks about Samba James all the time and sings his songs at home often. I believe that his participation in these interactive class sessions has helped him be more expressive & less shy about singing and dancing...things I personally struggled with as a child. I was excited to learn that he was recently brought in for a regular rotation for pre-K music program at the school. My son reminds me when it is Samba James day! James Henry provided 2 amazing performances at our school. He engaged the students(K-6) and the Teachers. He had everyone dancing and enjoying themselves. Last Thursday James Henry came to our school for the third time. The kids always love him. He brings drums, and instruments. He does singing and interactive stuff with the kids. The kids in my class are only two, and he even got them involved. He is excellent at getting the children's attention, and keeping it. While he's preforming he encourages good behavior, and all the children had a chance to participate. He had the kids laughing and singing and dancing, and most importantly, paying attention. We've also had him come do a training. It was a very interesting workshop. He taught us how to use music in our classrooms other than just as circle time activities. He talked about how to control the kids and keep their attention. I know I learned a lot from his workshop, and I had tons of ideas to use! ****Unfortunately for James Henry, he just lost 3 stars... Now you may think that this is harsh. But 2 summers, he flaked on us. One of those summers he flaked twice. Each time he has had an excuse. Once his son was sick... an acceptable excuse. Once his date book was "stolen"... an acceptable excuse ONCE. According to him, his car was broken into again, and again his date book was stolen... AGAIN?? I'm confused, is your date book gold plated, or diamond studded? If so, maybe you shouldn't leave it in your car so people can find it. If you can get him to come he's great... other wise... it's not worth it!**** read more

He's amazing my whole family loves his performances, very contagious beats , no boring time when he's performing. He comes to the local library here in Redwood City, and does a beautiful show for the kids and their families. He's not only entertaining but friendly and approachable with the audience. James Henry is an amazing guy! I saw the way he was working with seniors and also with kids, and it was great! His shows are very interactive, entertaining and funny. He combines differents languages, different musical instruments, international music in one show. We had the privilege of having James do our daughter's 7th birthday. We had 25 kids, and James did absolute magic with them. With his amazing attitude, and his educator instincts, he got all the kids (and parents too!) to participate, singing, moving, listening with their eyes wide open, and play with unique musical instruments that he brought with him. The time with him flew by and we didn't even noticed! We just wanted to continue to dance and play with his special rhythm. I highly recommend inviting James to birthday parties, school events and workshops. I know I will invite him to our school, and community so we can spread his music magic around us. Our preschool just had the most wonderfully engaging and fun visit with James Henry! His ability to maintain the attention of so many children ranging from 2-5 yeas old is amazing. Amazing!!!!!! James came to our son's 6th birthday, and along with about 30 kids he created the most amazing experience. The kids were so engage to the activity and even the adults participated. James Henry stood me up for my son's 1st bday party in October of last year!! It was outrageous. We had planned everything down to the last detail and Mr. Henry just didn't show up. I was worried maybe he had a heart attack or something (trying to give him the benefit of the doubt) as he would not pick up the phone when my husband and I both tried calling from our respective cell phones. He did however, pick up when my friend who was at the party called (obviously didn't recognize the caller i.d.) and had a full conversation with my friend who pretended he was interested in booking an event with Mr. Henry. How completely disrespectful! Now they have been sending me links to 'like' him on Facebook and follow him on Twitter. Though I like his music - won't be getting any 'thumbs up' from me! read more

James Henry presented his percussion workshop today at the Eureka Valley Branch Library, as part of SFPL's Black History Month programming. The program was great, and the kids loved it. Very interactive, everyone was playing a percussion instrument and dancing. read more

James Henry's CD, Samba Samba Kids, is a super fun album for kids. My 1.5 year old toddler loves to "dance" to every song on this album. Each song has unique instrumentation and style, with an emphasis on percussion. Highly recommend this album for kids!! read more
