There's also a small water station. Parking right in front and it's a short walk to the sound which has picnic tables and a ton of veins to trail paths throughout the park. Including those fabulous raised boardwalk paths. We walked some of the boardwalk paths recently and so enjoyed the experience. You are above the Bayou and Marshland and have a lovely perspective of the bay and tons of nature. People were trying to spy frogs and snakes and other critters. I imagine there's a lot you can see if you are patient. We love just having the access to it and being able to see the Santa Rosa sound to Pensacola Beach across the way. It's a true highlight of the area. Gulf Breeze does such an amazing job of maintaining its trails. We are really happy it is easily accessible and a well maintained community feature. Have barely scratched the surface of exploring it yet but look forward to seeing more of what it has to offer!

The miles of paved highway is surrounded with white sugar sand beaches and towering dunes and beautiful water with lots of parking and not so many people at least the day of our visit. I guess this would be considered a barrier island but regardless of its designation it's one of the most beautiful stretch of beaches that I've come across and I've seen plenty - if you're planning a visit be prepared to spend the day the memories you make here will last you a lifetime, there aren't a lot of amenities if you consider the vastness of this place and please pack out everything you pack in this is one of the most pristine pieces of land I've visited and deserves the respect from all that visit. If there is such a thing as a bucket list item this definitely qualifies and if you're lucky enough to be able to spend some time here just do it - it exceeded all my expectations and I hope to return again soon...

We were lucky enough to get here right before the Government Shut-Down, Such a Beautiful Coast-Line bursting with views of the ocean and wildlife. Plenty of spots to stop and take it in, have a picnic, use the restrooms, take a quick dip (we did). The Park itself has the standard entrance fee which assists in the upkeep of the area, we have an annual pass so if traveling to a lot of parks in one year (highly recommend). We utilized the campground which was well-maintained, restrooms/showers were good and we tented, but used the electricity availability for my CPAP. The Campground did not realize what a night of loud snoring they were spared. Ask our fellow campers in Death Valley a couple summers ago- talk about stares in the morning. We did a couple hikes around the area, saw Eagles and a variety of wildlife. We were lucky enough to visit the Fort when Ranger Chris was doing a presentation. He has a passion and the ability to share the knowledge he has of the time-period, the fort and the people who built it. I thought it was one of the best that we have ever attended. He challenged the group to further explore the fort and find different items of interest. When we had difficulty finding one particular spot, Ranger Chris took the time to walk us to it, explain the significance and then continued a tour of that side of the fort. My wife and I both agreed that this was one of the best interactions we have had in our National Parks experience. What really impressed me was Ranger Chris and the entire staff enthusiasm and dedication despite the furlough hanging over their heads. As we know shortly after the Government shut-down, we missed out on a lot of parks we planned on visiting, but the memory of this Gulf Island adventure eased some of the disappointment.

They tell you once your out there to down load the national park service app (NPS) to get a guided tour... But it's not too easy. You need a good signal and to be able to down load the maps before you go.. Because inside the bunkers you will lose signal. Plus I didn't find the app intuitive so standing out in the hot sun trying to figure it out was a pain. Plan ahead! Walk back in time with immersive history.

They have bands on the beach near the dock in the summer months which is lively. There are a ton of old growth trees which are beautiful. There are steps throughout but it's very manageable. Lots of parking. I do wish they had more intentional landscaping. Pensacola selectively landscapes its parks it seems and I wish this one got more of an overhaul. It's quite large and expansive and with some additional thoughtfulness and planting it could be a very special urban park.
