He is extremely knowledgable, and more so old school in trying to fix the problem, and not jumping into surgical solutions immediately. I've been working with him for 3 months due to plantar fasciitis. He's approach is more old school, but of course tailored to each person. I didn't want to go with shots right out of the gate, I wanted to heal. While it takes some time, his advice, his awesome podiatrist assistant Sue, and his methods are great. If you're having a foot ailment, I highly suggest Dr. Izzo. That is, unless you actually want to have surgery first and questions later!!

I contacted Dr. Hanna's office today to inquire about getting a second opinion for my upcoming foot…read moresurgery. The secretary asked about my insurance and I told her I'd already contacted them to make sure they would cover a second opinion. She asked for my insurance number but before I could give it to her she argued that the insurance won't allow me to be treated by two podiatrists at the same time. I told her I already checked, and yes, the insurance company said they would cover this second opinion. I suggested she contact the insurance company to confirm and she said, "No, I won't be calling..." She was rude, condescending and argumentative, not to mention clearly ignorant about how insurance works for second opinions. So I wonder - how many patients is Dr. Hanna willing to lose (this would've been an expensive foot surgery) - due to this rude, incompetent secretary?

This was an interesting experience. In my mind I imagined a practice with perhaps 2-3 providers…read moreand support staff. I walked in to. find staff with clipboards walking all over the place like waitstaff at a busy restaurant . Then I saw the signs saying CHECK IN and also Check Out . A bit like the check-in desks at a busy airport. I was checked in quickly and directed to take a seat in the waiting area . It was like a scene I experienced in crowded doctor's office in India many years ago. There had to be 40 people in the waiting area , all holding their clip boards and paperwork . Staff , with the obligatory clip board , walking in calling the first name of the next patient . I thought , this will be my last visit to this place. I waited 45 minutes to see my provider , not unusual these days . Staff led me to the examining room and I was amazed to see TWENTY examining rooms , I got room 9 . Eventually the Physiatrist came in, no long wait . Introduced himself , failed to introduce the presumed scribe that came in with him. I got the sense I was being rushed and in a conveyor belt experience. The doc did seem to be skilled and I will return and see what visit two is like . At check-out I was taken care of by someone whose name tag said "Director of Operations". He was very pleasant and quick . Good to see he was on the front lines working with the grunts .

I am scheduled for an ultrasound guided procedure on my shoulder. I met with a PA named Cori. She…read morenever looked me in the eye. She spoke only to her med assistant who did her typing. I had to repeatedly ask her to clarify what she was telling me. I did not receive any printed information on preparing for this procedure or what to expect or even if I could drive home on my own. In addition, she chastised me when I told her my pain level. Why ask that question if you don't take patients seriously. So I did what healthcare professionals tell us NOT to do, I had to look the information up on the internet. turns out that I do need a driver and a day off work which I did not prepare for. Sad when AI is your only hope. I have been with Excelsior for years and years. The changes that have been made in procedure and healthcare "professionals" are not an improvement for patients. I guess we all have to live with progress now that excelsior is a huge conglomerate and not patient centered. PS c Cori is not the only PA at excelsior who could take lessons from the frontline staff who are kind and respectful. Needless to say I am verry concerned about going through with the procedure.

Most insurance plans cover for podiatry, and this is the best. Dr. Chelin understands that foot mobility (which strangely does not fall under the OHIP umbrella) and hip mobility (and yes, you can have your hip replaced at no cost) are both equally important to mobility. I am tired of having really achy feet, and Dr. Chilin and his team have proposed several solutions, which I am investigating. The lack of OHIP is a problem; once I've verified that the insurance will cover the surgery that would help, then I can proceed. Dr. Chelin and the clinic understand this dilemma, and are patient with it, as you investigate whether your treatment will be an economically viable option
