I have been under the care of Dr. Gu and Dr. Brewer for approximately 12 years. Dr. Gu has put a…read morespinal cord stimulator on my spine and has done a 2nd surgery to update the stimulator. Dr. GU IS Amazing. He sincerely cares about his patients. He is very talented and I am blessed to live here so that he can help me with my spinal pain. Dr. Brewer had treated me the most amount of time! He always greets me with a smile. He is always upbeat! That is hard to do when you treat patients that are constantly in pain. He has exhausted every possible avenue to help me control my spinal pain. He is very good diagnostically! He always knows what is wrong with me even if it has nothing to do with his area of treatment. Both of these doctors are wonderful. They actually listen to their patients and treat them accordingly. My life and pain management would be very different if I was not in their care. They are wonderful! I am grateful they are my doctors!

When I moved to Glen Allen I immediately set an appointment with the same center here. This doctor had never seen me before, didn't look at my MRI and said you need surgery for an implant in my spine. We will schedule you in a week..... I asked him if he had read my chart and he said it doesn't matter. You have sciatic pain so you need an implant. I left there so mad and I would rather drive back to MD once a month than be treated by that QUACK

Wow I read some of the reviews and I am not sure they are going to the same office that I go to…read moreregularly. I am almost 80 and in a lot of pain from terrible arthritis all over especially in the spine...spinal stenosis, scoliosis, a ruptured disc and have had 2 knee replacements...I have gone from a wheel chair to a walker to a cane and sometimes I don't use the cane. One should notice that this practice is always busy...the girls in the front office are busy...BECAUSE the office is busy...They are professional and polite and do the best they can. I'm sure everyone has a bad day...including the girls in the office and the patient....and the doctors. Patients need to remember that everyone has a perspective of what is happening on any particular day. I am very aware of customer service as I worked way over 30 years working with people on their worst day. Make a list, so you will remember everything if necessary. Be polite. Take a breath. We all have times we have had to wait for anything...in all places. I have never waited beyond reason, and if I have waited at all...I have been told so sorry. Customers need to remember that when reading reviews or evaluations....the truth lies somewhere in the middle or higher. Lastly, we all have our perspectives on customer service...when you are feeling frustrated...stop and try to put yourself in their position and trying to help. Go back and sit down and take a breath....try to be understanding. This is usually not a good day for those of us in pain...so we may be a bit cranky...lol Bless you. Louise Barbara Condrey...

The front office staff doesn't call back when they say they will. My medication needed a prior…read moreauthorization, it was for for a refill last Wednesday. I called on Friday to see what was going on with the prior authorization, I was told that the med techs take care of it now. So they would be working on it, I said that if I didn't have my medication I would be going through withdrawal over the weekend so what should I do about that. Tina said I'll talk to the med techs and make sure they're on it. I never received a call back. It was a very tough weekend. I called back on Monday, spoke to Tina again. I told her I wanted to speak with Janelle, she asked me what was going on. I explained it to her. She told me that she would get to the bottom of it, I never received a call back. I called again on Tuesday, spoke to Tina again. She told me that all prior authorizations had been sent in and that mine was sent in. I asked her what day it was sent in and she couldn't give me the answer. She said that she would check with the pharmacy to see what was going on. When she told me she would call me back I let her know that she told me that on Friday and on Monday and didn't call me back. Her tone changed and she told me that they were not responsible for how long it took my insurance company to approve a prior authorization. But she told me to be patient. After the phone call I called my insurance company they let me know that they never received any prior authorization from the office, so I asked if they could send one in urgent, and they did just that for me. I called the office back and let Tina know that I called in for an urgent prior authorization. Tina called me back a half an hour later to let me know that she spoke with the pharmacist and that the medication would be filled today and that it did not need a prior authorization! I checked with the insurance company and they approved the prior authorization 13 minutes after I had asked for it, that's why the pharmacy was filling it. I asked Tina to have Janelle call me, that still hasn't happened. The office closes in 20 minutes. I appreciate the treatment from the doctors I absolutely do not appreciate being treated the way I was by Tina in regards to the prior authorization. There's no reason it should take three phone calls and an extra 4 days without medication to get a prior approval. I was able to get it in 13 minutes. All that needed to be done was a phone call from the office, but I kept getting the runaround. Tina told me they were not in the business of giving people to run around and that I should be patient.

Began being treated in Dec. it has been problem after problem. In Dec pills were prescribed but pharmacy did not have a full count available. Pharmacy filled it as partial then refused to fill the rest due to supply shortages. I went thru withdrawals without meds. After 8 spine surgeries my problem is pain. Taking dilaudid for over 10 yrs. In March my spine was having sudden intractable spasms and pain. Dr sees me every month collects my money and urine in April pain was so severe I went to ER Chippenham by ambulance. They did NOTHING sent me home. Gave dr info. 10 days later I'm in hospital again Johnston-Wills. They filled me with dilaudid--morphine and fentanyl and sent me home. All info to pain management dr. . Been in excruciating pain in tears and back to PM (pain management). Call her office no one answers. The 1 office manager does not deliver messages. Been on phone for 3 days trying to get help. Pharmacy filled a partial script and now I can't get the 32 pills I was shorted. PM dr c was to call in a steroid pack plus a laxative. Pharmacy says they only got one script call in. The doctor does not go to office every day and those days hours are never the same. Unable to reach by phone. Will not leave a number where a real human is there. So disappointing. A doctor who is not connected to patients. A doctor and her 1 staff won't stay in contact during a crisis. Finding doctors willing to prescribe opiates is hard to do . Hospitals who won't treat. Doctors who are disconnected from patients. Staff not doing the job. In 23 yrs with my other PM doctor NEVER had these concerns. Since beginning with new provider it has been 6 months of confusion mis-understandings going thru withdrawals and a lack of confidence. I sit here tonight in pain not knowing what to do. Doctors used to have empathy and try to help. They all sat with family tonight had dinner and were pain free. Not one phone call from the DOCTOR. Her one staff spoke while doctor would not even speak to me or my husband directly Put me on a morphine pump and let me die slowly. At least I would be in less pain. I live with pain level 4 out of 10 when on meds. With our meds it's 10+. Can't do more then get to bathroom and lay on ice packs and heating pads. I've spent the last 30yrs searching for alternative pain relief. Everything from chiropractors injections massages laser treatments hydro therapy bariatric chamber and on and on. When is suicide an option? Can't eat. Can't sleep. Can't care for my home and animals. Can't help my husband who also has health problems. I feel abandoned. Just trying to get a steroid pack and laxative should not be this difficult. This long comment might get me removed from this practice with no one else to go to

I was hesitant at first but after visiting their website, reading reviews, and listening to several people tell me great things about it. I made an appointment. After my first appointment I was hooked! Dr. Sam is incredibly friendly, professional, polite and extremely knowledgeable, he helped breakdown what I was feeling, what he would be doing in each session and then where I might be sore or feel some pain the next day - he was SPOT ON with each. He is careful with his movements and really walks you through everything. I worked with Mel as well and she was extremely helpful in helping me work through some of the exercises, some modifications, and to help with next steps. Both were extremely patient with the number of questions I asked - which was A LOT! Dr. Sam is also incredibly accessible, he gave me his card during my first appointment and reiterated several times that I could reach him by phone, text or email. I did have some questions after my first appointment (about 24 hrs later), I sent him a quick email and responded within the hour with advice, suggestions, and recommendations. The work he did and the resources/exercises they gave me after only two sessions has cleared up my pain and they have assured me that if I stick with the exercises and listen to the warning signs I should be good to go. I am extremely happy with the results and highly recommend anyone who is feeling any sort of pain to make an appointment to see Dr. Sam Brinkley!
