Two months from hiring to completion -- and only about six weeks from closing to full installation. That timeline alone still amazes me. Shaolin and her team handled absolutely everything: interior design, purchasing all furniture and materials, coordinating and managing contractors for the TV wall, roller blinds, and ceiling fans, receiving and storing items, and final installation and setup. It was completely turnkey. I provided the budget, and she went to work. Early on, she asked me what vibe I wanted. I told her I wanted a vacation resort feel -- and that's exactly what I got. The space feels comfortable, elevated, and relaxing. Everyone who has seen it absolutely loves it. There was one pivot near the end when the couch she originally specified became unavailable. Instead of it becoming an issue, she adjusted quickly and the replacement ended up being ideal. Honestly, it worked out perfectly. If you're considering hiring Shaolin, the most important thing to understand is that you have to trust her. She takes the reins on design decisions and purchasing. There were a few individual items I personally might not have selected myself, but when I step back and look at the finished result as a whole, I'm extremely happy. She delivers a cohesive vision and makes the process effortless for the client. I truly can't imagine trying to coordinate all of this on my own -- especially from closing through installation. We recently bought a new/old house and had some issues with our 1950s exterior wooden sliding…read moredoors. We explored multiple options, including replacing the whole thing with a new sliding door system we weren't that excited about as it didn't go with the aesthetic of our old home and was cost-prohibitive. We contacted Dave who came up with some drawings and ideas that matched up with our ideas and our budget. He built us a new sliding screen door that matches the old 1950s doors perfectly. He also replaced all the hardware for the existing doors, even coming up with a novel and secure locking mechanism. He went above and beyond, redoing the wooden base and top tracks. Our previously immovable heavy old wooden and glass doors now open with a finger's touch and we couldn't be happier. We were so happy with the installation, we contacted Dave when it was time to tackle another renovation in our living room. The previous owner of our home installed a gaudy gold-leaf folding screen as a "permanent" fix to a pass-through doorway. Dave met with us to get a sense of our design concepts and needs and drew up some designs plans for an entertainment center and shelf along with a more permanent fix. He demoed the existing structure and milled some old-growth redwood to patch the doorway, matching up with our single-wall redwood seamlessly. I really mean seamlessly; you can't even tell there used to be a doorway there. He then built us a custom walnut and bamboo European style double cabinet entertainment system with sliding doors. Before the build, we were skeptical about some of the design ideas he had regarding wood combinations. Dave was kind enough to create some mini-mockups of the doors with the actual wood and we were sold. He then capped it all off with a concrete slab counter top that he poured, polished and waxed. To finish the job, he installed a one of a kind curved (!) floating shelf using the walnut and bamboo combination he used for the cabinets. It is definitely the centerpiece of our house and we get compliments from all our visitors. Dave has great attention to detail and has a passion for his craft that is evident in the product he delivers. He uses solid wood construction and classic wood joinery which we really appreciate, yet he is also sensitive to cost and environmental concerns, using recycled wood whenever possible. In addition to all of that, he is responsible, respectful, and trustworthy; qualities I just can't emphasize enough when looking for the right contractor/carpenter. We had to leave our home (and belongings) in Dave's good hands for most of the two jobs he has done for us, and we never once had to worry about it. He cleans up after every day of work so you don't have to come home to a messy and dusty living space and delivers on the timeline he outlines. His prices are fair and reasonable and he shows up when he says he will. I cannot say enough great things about Dave. If you are looking for a quality product for a fair and reasonable price and someone who can stand behind their work 100%, look no further.
