The agent (who was not particularly friendly) that helped me said the earliest issue I could receive would be the December issue which would arrive in mid to late November, which would be more than 2 months after the initial order was placed. I told him that seemed like a very long time, and asked if he could send me any back issues before then. He said no, and that there was nothing that could be done to expedite the process. In this day and age, I find it hard to believe that the earliest they can fill an order is more than 8 weeks after it is placed, especially given that the magazine industry is hurting. As you know, many other mail-order services fill orders in 24-48 hours through US Mail and other services. In fact, I just ordered a subscription from Real Simple and got my first issue in less than two weeks. I have canceled my subscription, and don't plan to purchase any Martha Stewart products in the future as a result of this bad policy and poor customer service.

I immediately bought a copy and silently apologized to my friend who recomended Cabinet to me. Cabinet's great strength is the quality of essays in a dazzling variety of topics. It's very difficult to read at first, but it's a great gateway drug to other topics that are unique and quirky. They probably hate the word quirky. It's a difficult read, but it is very rewarding.

If you still read print publications, Cabinet combines the best of high-brow but accessible scholarship with the visual arts component for which it is probably best known (should I say fine arts? or just arts?). Right by the canal, too, for those who like scenery on their long walks from the subway.

A time when all you worried about was playing and dancing. You would read and could hardly wait to get to the end of your book. Your favorite books you would get so excited over too. Reading them over and over again. Do you remember your favorite book as a child? When mom or dad would sit you down and read that favorite book over and over again. Each time you would light up when they got to the end. Did you care you knew the end already? No, it's these special moments that we had that shape our lives as a child. Some of the books that we read over and over again were the Little Golden Book series. The words I can remember because I read them over and over again. I remember reading these books to my sisters when they were young too. Then in turn I shared these moments with the raising of my children. "The Monster at the End of the Book," was a favorite I enjoyed. I never would grow tired of how many times Grover would instruct the reader not to turn another page. Each time you turned a page you neared the end. All the stops were pulled off to prevent you from getting to the end of the book. Once at the end, that last page; you turned it thinking the worst. Such curiosity is peaked. But when you got to the end Grover sends love and hugs to you the reader. It's a special moment of true innocence. Life is a precious gift. Look back on moments when you were younger, share them over and over again. As I look back now, we never can know when it's our time. In fact sometimes, that spark of life is created and never ever comes to fruition. Believe that love makes the world turn. As we explore and move through life the glimpses that we have may seem fleeting but they are truly the best of times. Even in the worst of times we have to see that sliver of hope and joy to be able to go on.

These books were so memorable for me growing up that when I started buying books to read to my daughter these were the first I selected. In the process, the company was restructured into three main business segments: Consumer Products, which included the Children's and Adult Publishing divisions; Entertainment, which included the Golden Books Entertainment Group (GBEG) and Commercial Products, which included the Commercial Printing Division. The piece, titled "NYC Hotels Brace For Slow Recovery Despite Rebound In Foreign Tourism" gives uncanny insight into the hospitality industries' battle in which NYC hotels are quietly struggling to fill their rooms with warm bodies. It's a wonder how NY hotels, or ANY cities' hotels, can afford to treat their guests poorly - effectively destroying opportunity costs for the future business of those guests for whom the experience is extreme disappointment.
