I attend Jane's sales regularly and Every time I have had dealings with Jane she has been a professional and fair. In response to the 08/28/2017 review which I find to be very bias and unfair, I would like to rebuff that statement. I was first in line at 4 AM, any suggestion of unfairness on Jane's part did not happen. As in any sale, if you remove a tag from an item it is sold to you and it can be removed from the sale at anytime during the sale. It is just common sense, that time is of the essence and taking the time to unscrew or remove each item would not be beneficial to the buyer or seller. The 08/28 review really is sour grapes and not a true appraisal of of how Jane conducts her sales. read more

Recently attended an estate in Fairhaven and was very poorly run and woman running the sale was down right rude to paying customers. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I recently went to one of Jane Martin Estate Sales. She was very friendly and had a great staff working with her. I asked about certain items and they told me where I could find them. I go to estate sales almost every weekend in season - and have been doing so for many years - so I have an understanding of what makes a great estate sale company... and what does not. I attended a Jane Martin sale recently and it was run so unfairly I felt compelled to write a review. I woke up at 4:45 AM to attend her 8 AM sale. Her advert on EstateSales.net stated very clearly that there would be a sign up sheet and people would be let in at 8 AM according to the sheet. So, I get there at 5:30 and sign the sheet on the door. At 7:55 AM, Jane opens the door to the property and just lets people in - no sheet. I heard one guy say, "so much for the list!" and she yelled "you're all adults!!" Inside the property, I found a few antique signs I wanted - they were attached to the wall. So, having come prepared, I took my screwdrivers and unscrewed them myself. At 99% of sales I've ever attended, the items in the estate are first come, first serve. Some people affix labels that say SOLD on them to claim an item. These signs did not have SOLD labels, nor had they been removed from the wall. I took the signs out to cash out with Jane, and she informed me that I could not buy them because they were "Steve's". So I said, they didn't have any sold tag, and I had literally unscrewed them from the wall myself. She informed me that "Steve" had claimed them because he had taken the price tag off of them (not everything in the sale was priced, so this logic makes no sense...) Later on I saw "Steve" who had a pile of literally dozens of antique signs (like, almost all of them from the sale). I watched him check out and I distinctly heard Jane say "I'm giving you all the discounts!" while laughing and bantering with him (obviously a regular). There was a BIG written notice literally 2 feet from this exchange that SHE had written that stated "NO DISCOUNTS ON FIRST DAY OF SALE". When I checked out, I received no such courtesy. Really, really unimpressed and unhappy with the unfairness of the sale. Obviously, if you know Jane you will receive preferential treatment regardless of when you wake up for her sale. If you do not schmooze with her, the odds are stacked against your favor (this is not the norm at good sales). I might suggest running a PRIVATE or invitation-only sale if you want to help your favorite customers get dibs on the good items first. EDITING IN RESPONSE TO BUSINESS OWNER'S REPLY: "He pulled off all the prices on the signs he wanted" - so, what about all the unpriced items at the sale?? If someone went to grab something unpriced, could I just shout out "hey, I claimed that already!" and they'd be out of luck? This makes no sense. At EVERY other sale I've ever been to, people use blue painter's tape with their name on it to mark items as sold, OR they make a pile and mark it with a name. This is the only fair way that makes any sense when not all items at an estate are priced. Secondly, your own listings for your estate sales state (and I have copied and pasted this from Estatesales.net, your own words): "SIGN UP SHEET WILL BE STARTED BY FIRST PERSON TO ARRIVE AT HOUSE....I WILL LET PEOPLE IN ORDER OF THE LIST". At this particular sale, no one lined up, and you made no effort to abide by your own list. You are the one in charge. You are a private business and you are free to run your sales ANY way you choose; that is your prerogative. I am sorry that you feel slighted but I will not apologize for writing an honest review that reflects my own personal experience, however. Thanks. read more
