Although we are very happy to have another sit down restaurant here in Denver, we were not overly impressed with our first visit to the new restaurant. The food was adequate. The first issue I saw was that it seemed a little messy. They did appear very busy and I'm sure were having a hard time keeping up with all the tables in a busy lunch setting. The wait staff was very kind and attentive. We will go back in and see how it is now that it's not the first few weeks of the restaurants opening. Tried this place on a recomendation from our daughter and she has'nt steered us wrong yet! Not much on decor inside, but they make it up with the food. Now, I don't know about you, but I have never been able to eat decor. Service is prompt and friendly and they have a large window into the kitchen so you can watch the food being prepared. I got the hibachi steak, chunks of med. rare grilled steak with mushrooms over a bed of fried rice and Japanese sweets carrots on the side. My wife went the all veggie route over steamed rice. Both came with shrimp sauce. Portions are very large. Now, I can do some eatin' but ended up taking some home, as did the wife who take about half of hers home. Also tried a tuna roll which was very good. Prices are reasonable and the food is good. Can't wait to go back and try some more of the sushi. read more

They're alright. Their food taste very similar with other hibachi places like Toyama Express. I'm not sure how many Japanese restaurants are actually run by, or have, Japanese employer/employees. But hey, if it's good, if it's good, whatever you call it, right? The key difference that separates this place is that it's got a tad bit better ambience, and the portion is good. They had some bamboos in a corner (real or fake, I do not know), and the ladies working there tried to be polite. As for the quality of the food, like I said, it wasn't super special or bad. But I enjoyed it of course having gone there after a 3.5 hour kayak session. I think I never had a bad meal after out door activities. Haha. Used to eat at this place a lot however, it has constantly went down hill. When we visited this last time, they messed up 2 of the 4 orders then they messed up the sushi role as well. The quality of the food is not even close to what it was 2 years ago. The amount of food that comes on a place has gotten a lot smaller, which I do not mind as it is already a large portion. The service has fallen off drastically. Over all if you want quality food and good service I recommend finding somewhere else to eat!!! read more

The sushi at Japan Restaurant isn't half bad, but if you order rice or chicken, it's ALWAYS dry. I eat here twice a week usually and I've never had a good experience with the rice or chicken. The staff is always friendly and attentive though, so that makes up for the bad rice and chicken. If I were you, I would stick with their sushi. read more

We have gone to this restaurant off and on for a few years. I am disappointed in what I found in my hibachi chicken tonight. It was some type of plastic that reminded me of a twig I called the restaurant asked if there was an email that I could send a picture of what I found. The manager offered a credit for the meal that I was unable to eat. Instead of refunding the meal. I really find that not acceptable so I just will not be going here again be careful and look at your food. read more

We have been long time fans of Japan. However lately their customer service has sucked and the wait time for food has been the longest. It's not even busy and we ordered sushi as an appetizer and had been waiting for 20 minutes for that. (No our sushi was not fried). Not to mention the raw sushi we ordered was warm so I'm not sure how long it had been sitting back there or if they keep the fresh fish cold. This place is not what it used to be. My husband and I ate lunch there today. I ordered the Dragon Roll and he ordered the Tiger Roll, and we each had a bowl of miso. The miso, as always, was delicious, but neither of the sushi rolls had much flavor. Both were very bland. The Dragon Roll barely had any roe in it. I used to love going here until around 6 months ago. my boyfriend and i came in one night, waited to be seated and was never approached by someone. we left after 20 mins of standing up front looking stupid. Ordered a Philly, it was grey on color, but I figured it was because the rice was thin on the outside up against the seaweed wrap, second issue (and this is huge!) it was warm. I've never had uncooked sushi served warm. Not trying anymore sushi here,too afraid of what else isn't the proper temperature. Hubby got the Hibachi Steak & Mushrooms, I liked it, he didn't. I got the Teppanyaki Chicken and Cabbage. Not thrilled with this dish at all. I found the noodles to be too thick, a handful of chicken that was mostly gristle. GROSS! Threw the leftovers out when we got home since we both developed a fowl after taste in our mouths on our way home. Seriously doubt we'll be back. read more

Not only do they shut off their phones at rush hour because they are too stupid to implement a simple call wait function, their online ordering has NO WAY ALTER THE ORDER, so when you order something and let's say don't want the broccoli, you are shit out of luck because they won't answer the phone to help change it! I got the Steak Hibatchi with a side of Noodles and a order of the California Rolls. The California rolls were okay. But the Steak Hibatchi was also pretty good. But the noodles were awful, I have never tasted anything as bland as that in my life. But the worst from my entire experience was the employees. Two teenage girls, extremely rude on the phone and even when I came to pick up the order. I would give this 3/4 stars if it wasn't for the awful employees. This has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat! Talk about a true diamond in the ruff, from the exterior, this place doesn't look like anything special, but eat here once and you will be convinced. The veggies are fresh and flavorful, the meat is always tender, and has amazing flavor. I can't eat rice (which comes with nearly every dish) and the employees here are always more than happy to substitute out anything I want in place at no additional charge. The staff is friendly, and the interior is impeccably clean. The best part is that this place is cheap! I get the hibatchi chicken (which I used to pay 12.99 for at my old Japanese restaurant) and only pay $5.99. Seriously, give this place a try, it's amazing! read more

We love this restaurant. I think I could make a meal of the soup and carrots alone. And the ginger salad dressing even makes the basic iceberg lettuce taste great. I've been here only for lunch, both to dine in and mainly takeout. It's a nice set up inside with booths and tables. I usually go for the teriyaki chicken. Under $7 for the plate that includes the classic sweet carrots, rice, chicken & vegs. But it's the shrimp sauce that makes it, right... and this place has good shrimp sauce. Simple but well executed menu. Great "fast food" Japanese. Great sushi bar. Only negatives the noodles are not that good. I only tried them once, but they were bland and stuck together like old spaghetti noodles. The steak gets over cooked unless you tell them to make it more on the rare side. If I could give it negative stars I would. I will NEVER GO BACK HERE!!!!! First of all we walked in and it took a good 10-15 mins to get setted... then we got our drinks.. after we got our drinks we sat there for almost 30 mins waiting to order for food. Then when we ordered food it took almost an hour to get our food. The sushi was the most discusting sushi I've ever seen. It was warm and I found a hair in one of the roles and when brought to the managers attention she didn't believe us. I pulled a damn hair out of my mouth!!She took off the sushi but had a crap attitude and was so very rude when we asked for to go boxes she threw them down on the table and walked away. Absolutely wonderful hibachi steak when the main cook is on . Some of the worst service I've ever seen in my life in a restaurant. You ask them for lemon for your tea and they just continue cleaning up. You practically have to refill your own drinks. So take out is a must. Good food though read more
