When I told my French cousin we were visiting this museum he looked aghast. Not a fan. Me, on the other hand, I find joy, inspiration and melancholy in Chagall's work. His stained glass inspires. His canvases touch on culture, religion and history, and also weave in colorful influences of a later life spent in the South of France. Tucked in an affluent hillside in Nice, the museum can be booked ahead or tickets purchased in person. They have many large-scale oil paintings, along with stained glass, mosaics, watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Recommended. The museum has an outdoor cafe, for those who want a quick pick me up after the museum, and to linger.

We arrived in the afternoon and apparently that day admission fees were waived due to a few temporary exhibit closures. Free admission! : ) Three rooms were blocked off.. I would have loved to see Chagall's timeline, but nevertheless, what we did see was amazing!!! The museum was not large and overwhelming. His work was beautifully displayed. A lot of interesting biblical pieces, glass stained pieces, and a few circus gypsy references. Plenty of comfy benches to sit and resonate. Drawings were displayed as well. A small souvenir bookshop was located next to the museum where I bought a few art postcards and a Chagall museum book. Talented artist and so worth the visit! Must see for sure

It's a gorgeous estate built as a winter house for Béatrice de Rothschild (yes of the famously wealthy Rothschild family*) between 1907-1912, that is currently managed by the Academie des Beaux Arts, having been bequeathed this estate in 1933 by the owner prior to her passing. As a significant collector and appreciator of art, the property houses a varied array of art forms from different eras, that Béatrice acquired over her lifetime. The gardens are also cultivated with several distinct themes. Located on Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, the villa smack dab (~10 km away) from both Nice and Monaco. The closest train station is Beaulieu-sur-Mer from where you can take bus #15 directly to the outer driveway entrance, about 5-6 minute walk slightly uphill to the ticketing entrance and gift shop. Arriving by car there is free parking available in a lot. The views from the villa's elevated position on a hill overlooks the Bay of Villefranche and the Bay of Beaulieu. A tremendous number of mansions (owned by the ultra wealthy and celebrities) also dot the landscape. Walking up to the entrance, tickets can be purchased inside or prior online. Regular adult tickets are €18, €12 reduced, free for children 7 and under. A combined ticket along with Villa Kérylos is available for purchase on-site only for €24. It's possible to visit both in one day with time to spare, as they're only about 10 minutes driving from each other. Inside, on the left hand side of the lobby free audio guides are available, there is also a free activity book for younger children. The tour takes you around the first floor first, then around the second floor, providing information on Béatrice's life and times, explaining the history of the villa and the highlights of the collection in each room. The total tour takes about 45 minutes. The rooms are gorgeous period rooms with an eclectic variety of decorative furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The grand scale of the main lobby and bath room impressed me. After this I'd recommend taking a stroll in the gardens, where you can enjoy the musical fountains and varied landscapes of each themed garden - French, Spanish, Florentine, stone, Japanese, exotic, rose and Provençal. If you're into the outdoors, horticulture or simply looking for a beautiful place to relax, you could spend hours here. I only spent about 45 minutes in the gardens and felt there was so much more to see. There are miles of walking paths. Mostly not handicap accessible though parts are. There's a tea-room restaurant that's set up in what appears used to be the formal dining room. It's open for lunch and dinner with a break between. A Wonderful Experience with Sylvie on the French Riviera…read more Sylvie will drive you to the best spots of the French Riviera. If you love food trips, Sylvie is the guide to call--she will take you to the finest restaurants in town. Interested in local markets? She has a list of flea markets on varying days. One of the highlights of our trip was experiencing three countries in one day: breakfast in France, lunch in Italy, and dinner in Monaco. If you're planning to visit during the Grand Prix, when most roads are blocked, Sylvie is the right person to take you there. She knows the streets of Monaco by heart and arranges perfect pick-up and drop-off points. We also visited Cannes for a quick dip and got to taste the Mediterranean waters. But the most memorable experience was when she invited us for morning tea at her home. Spending time with JJ and Roma made it feel like a second home. We miss you, Sylvie, and we hope to see you soon, whether here in the Philippines or back in Nice. Ciao! Hugs and kisses to You, JJ and Roma.

If you are planning to stay here, I'd highly recommend taking a taxi from the airport (~35 euro) or packing light. The hike up the hill with luggage can be a challenge, even if you're in decent shape. Service at the hotel is 4.5 stars. Phillippe is awesome and has great recommendations for dinner. He's friendly and welcoming. I would give him 5 stars. I would've rated the hotel higher, but it is a bit of a trek to the touristy spots. In addition, the walls are thin, so you can hear everything that goes on in the room next door. Our neighbors were definitely having a lot of "fun" on our last night. Even though I knocked on their wall several times, I wasn't able to stop their late night fun. We thought our room included the breakfast buffet, unfortunately it didn't and we had a 16 euro/pp/day charge. It wasn't that we minded the charge, but the food was definitely not worth the 16 euro/day. There weren't that many choices at breakfast. The hotel provides free wifi access, although it is spotty. It is also limited to two sign-ons per room. If you have a lot of wifi devices, you'll find yourself trying to figure out which device you want to connect to the wifi. There are some other creative ways you can get online, but I'm sure other yelp reviewers are smart enough to figure it out. :) If I visited Nice again, I would probably pay the extra $ and stay at the Hotel Negresco. I do recommend this hotel if you have a rental car. Nice is car friendly and this particular hotel is located in a residential area, so there is plenty of free street parking.

About one previous review: YES this hotel is located on a hill: the plentiful photos online clearly describe that fact...and the results are outstanding - quiet neighborhood, beautiful view, and fresh air! About another previous review: YES the breakfast is 16 Euros each but (traveling around the world) the buffet here is top-tier and delicious: hot eggs, bacon, sausage, plentiful fruit and baked goods, coffee and tea, juice and milk, yogurt, salmon and prosciutto...again, you get the picture! You are in France so definitely have breakfast other places on other days but for sure check out breakfast at the hotel itself! Everything is relative - for the cost (large bedroom with garden view for about 130 Euros) and the gorgeous/comfy/calm surroundings, I would give this hotel 8 stars if it was possible!

When I visited in January 2024 water was dripping from the ceiling. To catch the rainwater, about a dozen buckets were placed around the first floor greenhoused area (looked like a workshop presentation area with chairs and long tables). The ceilings of multiple rooms on the ground floor were peeling large sections of paint. It made me wonder if these conditions were ideal for the various art mediums on display. I hope they can make some repairs soon! The museum itself isn't very big, walking in there's a main staircase directly to the right after the ticket counter. This leads to the second floor landing with one of the iterations of Rodin's "The Kiss" placed prominently on display. There are a handful of rooms on the second floor and the same on the first, ranging from small to large scale paintings and some sculpture. Easy to go thru in about an hour. Bathrooms are available. Tickets are €10 though you can purchase a museum pass for €15 which grants access to 10 municipal museums in Nice over 4 days. (Local Nice residents can pick up this pass for free with ID and proof of residency.) Guided tour in English is available at 3pm on Saturdays by reservation only for a €6.20 surcharge on top of ticket price.
