I have been an attorney for nearly a quarter of a century, so I've come in contact with lots of lawyers. And I know how I conduct myself when serving my own clients. I have been impressed on the whole with the profession, but of course I've dealt with the rotten few who give lawyers a bad name. Unfortunately, Jared Beschel is one such lawyer. I was Jared's client for a residential real estate sale. I don't practice this type of law, nor do I know much about it (only what I learned in law school over 25 years ago). My real estate colleagues assured me that just about any real estate attorney could handle the transaction since the legal work is generally routine. So, when my real estate agent recommended Jared, I was happy to give him a try. I was curious to see what it's like "on the other side" (i.e., to be an inexperienced client instead of the lawyer). What I found was appalling. He lied about his fee, charging more in the end. He delayed and procrastinated in performing routine aspects of the transaction. He literally threw temper tantrums. In short, he failed in the only area that really distinguishes good residential real estate attorneys from bad: bedside manner.
