Before heading out of the Beckley area and back towards home, I needed to make a stop for a quick…read morebite to eat, grab a drink, and use the facilities. Driving around the day before, I knew there was a Sheetz in this area. My colleague also needed to use the facilities so this stop was needed. Pulled in and made our way to our respective restroom. One stall was out of order on my side and came to find out that was the case on the other side. It took my colleague more time here than me. I went out and grabbed what I wanted/needed and was back out to my vehicle before she was out of the facilities. Waiting for her, I just took in the scenery outside, which isn't much since this sits along a busy, commercialized road. Once she was finished, we were back on our way to head back to the DMV.

It is the 1st service plaza encountered on the West Virginia Turnpike northbound. HMS Host runs the concessions at this travel plaza. They have a Starbucks, Hershey's ice cream, Blimpie's Sub's. A souvenir shop inside provides local products for tourists. Restrooms are well attended to, the whole facility is well-maintained. Outdoors, they have a picnic area set aside for the more moderate weather. Fuel pumps for both gasoline and diesel. This location is also used as a commercial vehicle inspection and weigh station, on an occasional basis.

Unlike many of the interstate's shiny new, large corporate stations, this Citgo and General Store had the feel of a mom-and-pop business that has been serving the needs of the rural local community for decades. The gas pumps, which didn't have a credit card reader, were probably installed decades ago, but they worked just fine (after we went into the shop to pay). We also picked up a coffee and pecan cinnamon roll from the shop, which we ate in our car in the parking lot. We were intrigued by the sticker on the roll's packaging. This Citgo shop was a retail outlet for the Fruits of Labor Bakery in Reinelle, WV, which we learned from their website is a culinary and agricultural training center that provides persons recovering from addiction a safe place to learn job skills in a vibrant profession. In sum, the gas station and store were clean, with plentiful parking. Staff were friendly, and the store had what we needed at competitive prices. There was easy enough access from I-64 and from the Sandstone Visitor Center. We also note that that there was a steady stream of locals coming in to pick up items from the store.

The gas pumps were super old and did not have a credit card reader and apparently not pumping on the honor system so I went inside and patiently waited while the "cashier" deep fried a food order for another customer. I wasn't sure how much it was to fill my tank and didn't want the hassle of getting a refund so I prepaid $50 to another attendant who eventually showed up. Then I watched in dismay as my total flies past $50 to $52.35 before I could stop the pump. I considered just leaving at that point but went back inside to get in line again behind even more customers buying food to pay the extra $2.35. The cashier even tried to blame me saying "I told you to lift up the pump to reset it", however I lifted it several times before it pumped anything so that definitely wasn't the issue. I saw the original guy ahead of me the first time in line leaving with his food before I was able to get a tank filled. Worst gas station in the country and they are tied with Nascar for dirtiest bathrooms!

However, they are clean and they have a good water force along with clean towels. This is also a gas station that has delicious hot dogs available at a reasonable price. You can one hot dog for about $2 or you can get two hot dogs for about $3. I also recommend their App too. You can download the Loves App and get points on it every time you spend money at any Loves . They checked me out fast and they were friendly while doing it. There were also no lines here too at the time of visiting because there were two cashier checking people out.
