I understand how expensive and emotional it is to take a sick fur family member to an emergency…read morevet. We had to do this with our cat, Luna. I also understand triage in any emergency-vet emergency hospital or human ER. It's so hard to wait. That said, here were the things we were grateful for and knew they did a good job; reminded us it is triage. Listened intently and asked questions. Answered questions we had. Gave us an estimate and explanation of tests, scans, bloodwork, etc., and would let us know when we were nearing the top of that estimate so there were no surprises and always our choice on what to do next. Two different veterinarians worked on Luna's case. I would receive calls from them regarding their latest findings. I want to thank them. But I also especially want to thank the techs who also helped keep her as comfortable as hissy and miserable feeling cat could possibly be made. At the end of this mysterious battle of not knowing what on earth made her so sick, and ruling out every possible thing we could, we all did our best and worked together. And she made it through- which of course was our concern. Yep, we brought her there two times within the week. Yes, she had to wait one of those times to be seen by a veterinarian because other more emergent cases came in. It was hard knowing that because she's ours. But they kept monitoring her even during that time. The only small gripe I had was one older woman at the front who seemed impatient and kind of cold. But I ignored that as I figured she could have had a rough day. However, I hope she realizes the impact that can have on others, bad day or not- because our bad day is taking our pets in and being scared out of our minds we will lose them. Take a breath on a break and realize the positive impact she could make. Thanks for saving Luna. Thanks for the compassion-even though you see so many people's fur family members-you still understood each one is important to each family. It meant a lot. Keep doing that.

I explained…read moreto the staff that I was low‑income and asked about their fund program that is supposed to help families in financial hardship when a pet needs treatment. Despite this, I was repeatedly told we "did not qualify," even though no one asked for income information or made any real effort to evaluate our situation. They refused to treat my pet unless I could pay $600-$15,000 upfront. Because of this refusal, my cat's condition worsened and his life ended tragically. I begged the veterinarian to help him, knowing he only needed a simple procedure to remove a stone, but I was told "nothing could be done." This experience showed me that this clinic prioritizes money over animal lives. I hope others are aware of how they operate, because if you cannot pay their high upfront costs, they will not provide care -- even in an emergency.

Went into her pediatrician first thing in the morning, her O2 level was at 89! X-rays showed start of pneumonia. God forbid it had been over the weekend we had gone in.

The nurse asked what my pain was at on there 1-10 scale, which for over 24 hours it had been at a 9, I could not talk the pain was so severe . The Dr. rushes in a few seconds later, ask what's going on, he looked at my throat and said it did not look that bad, never mind I couldn't swallow even a sip of water and had not slept and been in tears from the pain for over 24 hours. He then inquired what kind of pain meds I was looking for. After I told him I tried various over the counter and I had prescribed medication if that is what I needed. He said well your not getting anything for pain except a steroid. He said he would test me for strep. They swab my throat and bring me some steroid pills that I could not swallow. Nor did he even care of the interaction with my other medications or what the steroids would do to my insulin dependent diabetes Thank goodness we have choices. I had my daughter drive me straight to Sanford ER, where the Physician was actually concerned with patient care and my medical history and once he ruled out strep he was interested in finding out what my problem was, instead of giving me some steroids that I could not swallow only to cause distress with my diabetes. If your only option is to go to Essentia I would at least request a different Doctor one that is concerned with treating your condition. It might involve some test and a hospital stay, which I know there are some exceptional Doctors at Essentia that provide excellent care, Josh Honeyman is not one of them in my opinion. After Two years of care at essentia, being treated like this was enough to make me transfer my care. I pay way too much for health insurance to be treated like $4!+..
