Highly recommend for both business and leisure travel. Seven large bedrooms can accommodate a group. Please note: The only negative reviews that keep this from being five star was many years ago under prior owners. I was here at that time and had a very positive experience during my stay, though the family/owners were dealing with very difficult health challenges. The atmosphere in the home is five star now.

The shared spaces are comfortable and inviting and the game room in the basement is a fun addition! We were there to bike the area trails with friends and the location is just perfect. One of the trailheads is right down the hill and we biked downtown to the Des Moines Farmers Market and beyond and got an easy 20 mile ride in on beautiful trails. Absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. The details in the design and interior decorating are amazing! My wife and I would love to build a home like The Corn Crib, only a bit larger in places. We spent 20 minutes walking around just noticing the small details that made all the difference! My only concern was the bed. My wife and I are used to a California king bed. I'm 6'3 230 pounds, my wife 5'0 125 lbs, things get a little tight in smaller beds, but by no means would the bed size prevent anything less than 5 stars for The Corn Crib! We chose to stay local to help out our local businesses. We finished up our day by going to West Hill Brewing here in Indianola for a few beers, followed up by a pizza from Bricktown. Amanda was great, very responsive and helpful and took care of us. When we arrived, the place was very clean and welcoming. There were snacks and drinks and food for breakfast. Lucky for me, that same friend booked a girls trip for us here last night. From the moment we entered Mt. Vernon, I was captivated by the charming historic homes and the big mature trees. Thistle's Summit was no exception to that charm. The house is decked out in fun Halloween decorations and like I'd seen in the pictures, a lovely big rainbow flag is hanging in the front. We were greeted on arrival by the sweet Thistle who is a treasure of a being. The inside of the house feels like home, love, wonder, and magic all at once. And it smells beautiful! Like everywhere! As I was wandering around I saw a card from someone else who had stayed on the fridge and she said the whole house smells awesome- how did they do that? I began to wonder this myself and am currently trying to hack the code in my own home. Every nook and cranny in this house is adorable. The art, the plants, the colors, the textures, the crystals. Everything. I stayed in the grapefruit colored room. The bed was cozy and I loved, loved, loved, the private sunroom. Had it been a little warmer, I would have been out there. One of many incentives to come back. I loved the water, coffee, and tea station upstairs. Also the apples. This morning when I woke up, I grabbed one of the white robes and tried out the shower at the end of the hall. I love spacious showers and rainfall shower heads. I also tried the yummy face wash from the local apothecary. Amazing. After my shower, I wrapped my hair up in a big soft towel, put on my robe and laid back in bed to eat the complimentary granola bar that Marti made. It was truly a Julie Roberts in Pretty Woman moment. The shower is bigger than the blue banana! Eventually I went downstairs for breakfast which was beautifully prepared by Marti and beyond delicious. In addition to trying the local apothecary face wash, I also tried the local tea and cider. It's all wonderful! One of my favorite parts was my tarot card reading from Ash. She does astrology charts also. This place is so special. Thistle, Ash, and Marti are awesome!

I am allergic to gluten and dairy and have known for a little over a year now. For christmas we got gingerbread cutout cookies, lemon merigue tarte, cinnamon rolls, and an assortment of scones. The gingerbread cookies were crunchy and delicious. If you are looking for a soft cookie do not get these. I normally like soft and chewy cookies but when it comes to gingerbread cookies these were great. The lemon merigue tarte was to die for. It made my insides so happy and I loved it. I would love to know how or where they got the lemon curd vegan. I will always reccomend the cinnamon rolls I love them. And the scone assortment had lemon poppyseed, cranberry orange, chocolate chip, and 'cheesy' garlic scones. I will say the cheesy garlic scones are my favorite. The scones were a little dry for some. The lemon poppyseed crumbled and the chocolate chips sank to the bottom of the scones but they were still pretty good. For new years we also did an order. Marti really came through for us. We were doing a belated chrismas party for my moms side of the family and I really wanted to be able to eat some type of dessert without reacting. We also then found out 3 days before pickup that a relative had passed and the visitation was the day before our pickup. Marti really worked with us so we could get our baked goods still. We ended up ordering chocolate chip bread pudding, creme brulee for 2, tiramisu, and miso caramel rolls. I will say I was slightly disappointed about not getting any instructions about how to take care of everything. The bread pudding was a hit! The tiramisu was heavier than I expected, it was more a take on it then the actual thing. The frosting was heavy and was more of a 'cream cheese' frosting, but it was still really good! Creme brulee was divine once my mom and I looked up instructions on what to do. The miso caramel rolls were my least favorite. I have never had miso caramel so maybe that was the problem. I am used to making date caramel. The miso caramel was in a seperate container so it worked out though. It was more of a sticky roll then a caramel cinnamon roll. The caramel just did not want to melt so I made my own frosting for it. Love this place and cannot wait to stop in again!

This is the quintessential mom n pop franchise that's starting to show some wear. TV: HD channels on cable but TV is vertical screen analog causing a sometime concave look to the images. If the TV weather is showing the five day forecast we can see 3 1/2 days you get the picture-well not quite the whole picture. Beds: King size bed for sure about the hardest bed I've rested on. Should work great if I had a back problem. Here is where the PR person for Super 8 can go to work and call it 'King Size Support'. Keep in mind it's not big dollars for this stay, so there's no pool, no hot tub and the continental breakfast consists of bananas, yogurt cups and tangerines. The owner is friendly and helpful the rooms tidy and cleaned quickly if staying more than one night. I had least three bars of Wi-Fi strength throughout the visit and I didn't have to log on constantly.
