this is a very cute little spot. lots of comfy seating from couches to high tops. The granola bar is massive, rich, and delicious! I had a latte with vanilla syrup and lavender dust I believe is what she called it. it was one of the best lavender coffees I've ever had! The sweet messages on the lids are very cute and a unique touch. they made me smile with every drink :) The homemade pop tart was delicious, rich, but very sweet. I have been to Java Haute a few times now. I should go more often, really. The seasonal flavors are interesting and I have decided I enjoy going here when I want coffee as a dessert or snack. By that I mean, yes the drinks are sweet and milky, but sometimes that's what I am going for. Such a great spot for breakfast! There were a lot of people catching up with friends and/or working on their laptops. This is the first coffee shop I have seen with booths, I think. My friend and I ordered some drinks and pastries to go. The vanilla chai tea latte was so good. Sometimes they fall flat depending where you get it but it was one of the better ones I've had. Additionally, I ordered the homemade pop tart which was really good. Kind of wish it had more filling in it but it was great nonetheless. Things have changed since our last visit to Java Haute. It's still a nice place to have a coffee and relax a bit. The staff is friendly. A lot of people there with laptops on a Sunday morning. The coffee is very good. We both enjoyed a nice dark roast. The scones, however, were not good at all. Extremely dry and the flavor was not good. Judging by the number of people there, it is still as popular as ever. Next time I would skip the scone and maybe stick with just coffee. read more

I came here on a first date. I ordered a latte but I don't remember the name of it. I do know that it was the best latte I've ever had. It had lavender, bourbon, maybe vanilla, and it had lavender dust. My only critique would be maybe let the cute sharpie quotes on the lids dry before giving them to customers. My date didn't realize the sharpie was wet which resulted in it getting on his nose. I had to stare at that green mark for our 40 minute conversation before I could get the courage to tell him that he had sharpie on his nose. I got a great laugh out of it. Die hard Java Haute fan here! Been going since I was literally 9 years old and the shop was 1/3 of the size it is now. Though it's been through several different managers, I have always enjoyed the drinks, food, and ambience. The most recent management is great. They got rid of the breakfast and lunch meals they used to serve, but have added very creative and unique drink specials and yummy baked goods. They have revamped their social media pages. On a personal preference note, I love that they have house-made syrups with their seasonal drink specials. I've outgrown my latte phase, but still love coffee with some sweetness and flavor, and the house-made syrups are always great with a drip coffee and some milk (they have all of the types of milk, btw). Side note, I believe they also roast their beans in house. Staff are always very knowledgeable and give great recs. Over the years, it has gained a lot of popularity, so I don't usually sit in the dining room any more as it can be tough to find a seat. If you happen to go by when there is sitting room though, it's a great place to hang with friends, or catch up on work. read more

Hands down my FAVORITE coffee shop in Terre Haute. Five stars for everything - location, atmosphere, coffee flavors, food offerings, decor, EVERYTHING! My go-to brewed coffee and 100% all-time favorite coffee flavor, EVER: Highlander Grogg. This is not to be confused with their Highlander Grogg latte, which is also delicious, but a little too sweet for my liking. I get my brewed coffee with a pump [or three] of pumpkin pie flavoring [yes, year round, don't judge] and I'm in autumn heaven! Java Haute is the perfect place for a casual meeting, catch up with a friend / colleague, or just a place to come and sit to get some work done. The place can be pretty busy with local college students to getting a seat could be problematic at some points during the day and evening. I am only in Terre Haute for a limited time and when asking locals about a coffee shop recommendation, Java Haute was at the top of their list. Overall, I was very pleased with my experience here! The inside of the shop is surprisingly large with a lot of seating. I ordered my vanilla latte and the lady behind the counter was so upbeat and pleasant and told me that she would bring it out to me when it was ready. About 2-3 minutes later, she let it down next to me with the cutest little note. I'm sure they do this for everyone, but regardless it was a pleasant surprise and made me smile. The latte was delicious! I stayed and studied for a while and was very grateful that the background music was not too loud and distracting and most people kept their conversations to a reasonable volume. If I am in Terre Haute for an extended period of time again, I will definitely be back! read more

If you are looking for a cool place to hang out, grab a HOT beverage, and use Wifi, look no further than Java Haute in Terre Haute. They open early, have plenty of parking (as well as a drive up window), serve breakfast and lunch, and have more artwork than any othe coffee house I've seen. I stopped in around lunch and grabbed a cup of black coffee, a cup of Tomato Basil soup, and a Pesto Chicken Panini with chips. I was advised that there would be about a 20 minute wait due to a huge order that just came in, but that was okay with me. I got my coffee, a number stand to place on my table, and began browsing the murals on the inside. (They also have a number of cool murals on the outside by artist Michael Neary.) My one pet peeve with some coffee houses (and always knocks them from getting a 5 star) is that the coffee was scalding hot. I waited at least ten minutes before drinking it and still had to be careful. The flavor was fine, but it must have been 20 minutes before I could actually take drinks of the coffee. By that time, my platter was brought out to my table with the rest of my order. The chips were thick and crispy like kettle chips, but with the standard salty chip taste. The soup was a full cup in size and again, was scalding hot, but I was able to take small spoon fulls and blow on them so that I could eat while it cooled. The panini was really good. It came out square with plenty of greens, Swiss (?) cheese, and a decent sized chicken breast. The panini wasn't as crisp as some I've had, but that was okay. I love a good local coffee joint and this is a great example! When I came in, I didn't know what I wanted to drink, and the girl at the register was fantastic. She recommended her favorite options and provided me with information about what their drinks were based on. In the spring they focus on the south and their tea is based on New Orleans tradition which is a green tea base and they add different components accordingly. The tea is a great in-between if you like a not-too-sweet but not bitter tea. I got an orange cranberry muffin and it was phenomenal. Was not overpowering either flavor. I do agree with another reviewer that it is a good hangout spot and their food is based on breakfast and pastry items but was pleased with the options. However, there are not many dietary-friendly options. The environment itself is hard to beat in Terre Haute for any weather. The indoor is a mix of modern and vintage pieces throughout. Overall great staff, a good environment, fair food selections, and great drinks with a history behind them. I've already visited a few times in the month that I've lived here in Terre Haute, and every experience has been very positive. They do have a few pastry options- I've tried the tasty scones- and some very yummy smoothies, but the primary appeal that keeps this spot busy is the coffee. I've tried a different coffee- and once, a smoothie- each time I've gone, and all of them have been great. My favorite is a current springtime special they have: the French Quarter. asides: - service: The staff is very warm, and they also do a great job of expediently serving their breakfast rush, where there is always a line both @the drive-through and inside. They write something nice on your drink cup-- "You got this", "Have a great day!", etc. I once ordered and then realized I had driven there without my wallet, and another customer offered to pay for my coffee. Reading other reviews on here, apparently this "pay it forward" mentality is a common theme, among their patrons, which I think is lovely. I look forward to an opportunity to do my part, in that aspect. - ambience: Not much to note, here. I came on a Saturday morning and stayed for quite a few hours. When I came at 10 the place was packed and there was a line to order drinks and food. Soon after the morning rush died down and the place wasn't too busy or too empty. I got the cowboy sandwich and the white mocha coffee. The coffee was soo good! Great crunch on the bread and the chipotle sauce wasn't too overpowering. The coffee was not that sweet but two packets of sugar easily fixed that. The place itself is clean and has a hipster vibe which is unusual for a place like Terre Haute. There's ample seating space but outlets are limited to the booths seats by the wall. Tried Java Haute for the first time and was pleasantly pleased with my order. I went through the drive thru and noticed there wasn't a menu board so I was able to look online at the menu quickly. I found it strange that the cars in front of us ordered, paid, and got their drinks at the same window whereas I ordered from an employee who came outside with an iPad. We later figured out it was because the car in front of me was paying it forward and bought our drinks! Been coming here every trip home since 2001 & it's never disappointed. Not even last year at thanksgiving when they were out of the syrup to make the incredible Highland Grog Latte. I was in the area once again and decided to give Java Haute another try. I'd been there a few times since my last review and things were slightly better. I chose to try their Rose Cardamom Latte iced. I was pleasantly surprised! Gone is the overly sweet, Starbucks-esque coffee! This drink was smooth and flavored just right. Always love checking in here! Started going on coffee dates with friends during high school and continued the tradition up until now whenever we're all in town. Definitely try the chocolate cake! It's so good, moist, and chocolatey. I have yet to try the lunch menu so I'm not one to ask YET. As for the place, I've watched it expand and it's so awesome!
