Slurping away on a good cup of joe in this cafe, I got the feeling as if I was sitting inside a giant pizza oven. This was due to the fact that it looks like one, not that it was ridiculously hot or anything. 'twas a moderate clime in there.
The cafe is housed inside a red brick building inside the atrium of the J.Scott Mall in Devonport, it is a bit of an institution to locals who live here, who have happened upon it by accident or upon recommendation.
There is a range of seating option available; sitting inside/inside or you can sit outside/inside with the gently sloping light of the skylight above. The day I dined here, it was one of the those sky-splittingly wet Auckland days and it was so cosy in the Java House I didn't really ever want to leave.
Coupled with the fact that I was nomming on a delicious bowl of pumpkin soup with a crusty generous slice of French bread, it was very hard to tear myself away on the completion of my meal. read more
