Firstly there's a Tapas menu and a Turkish influence on the food (Turkish owner I was told) but the head Chef is Portugese? So I imagine some Portugese flavours seep into the mix at some stage. As we enter into the 16th year of the 21st century I presume innovation in foodie collaborations will lead to more places like this. Onto the food.. The tapas menu is nothing short of fantastic. The breads are baked fresh onsite and are delicious. The Filetitos (strips of lamb fillet I think?), Pan seared Scallops with clams and the Gamberoni Pilpil (prawns) are sensational choices from the tapas menu. I for one cannot wait to rattle out a full blown review upon my return when I'll no doubt goorge on the Beef Stroganoff which I hear is divine. So watch this space...

We didn't book a table and lucky to get a table as all the empty tables we saw when we walked in were all reserved. They sat us on a table for 6 which was free. Its a nice interior to the building, sort of Northern Quarter (Manchester) in feel with the vintage (I think called Edison) lightbulbs. The menu is split into different sections of: Little bits Little plates Little sides Little lunch We ordered from the Little bits and Little plates section and they were fairly similar in size. We had the Artisan bread and the Crispy Squid from the Little bits section. From the Little Plates we got the: Chicken kiev Tempura cod cheeks Lamb rump Crispy Belly Pork - we ordered 2 of these and good job! All the dishes were really good. Some delicious. In particular the cod cheeks and belly pork. The lamb was tasty and tender. The only thing which was not at least really good was the chicken kiev - it was OK, just not really good. Alright so WHO KNEW Preston has one of the best kept secrets of the North West. This bar and…read morerestaurant is the renovated and refurbished 350-year-old Plough Inn, which sat beside one of the main medieval routes of the north. Numerous historical figures have walked the halls of PLOU since then, and the building has been used for everything from a gin distillery to battle barracks. The new owners have carefully preserved the building and even showcase artefacts discovered in the cellar, where they also happened to excavate the old well which dives 43 feet deep. There are several levels to the building - each with a different function. The top floors house the restaurant, with wonderful dishes from all over the world (HUGE props to the chef). The bottom cellar is where the well is located (right next to a gorgeous bar). And then the floors in between are a cocktail bar and beer/bar stall area. You can rent out different locations of the restaurant for business meetings, workshops, celebrations and more. Okay now onto the restaurant. What a treat! PLAU offers brunch, lunch, and dinner. We went for a late dinner and were blown away. The beer bread butter, king prawns, and duck & squash were my personal favourites, but honestly every dish was lovely. So happy we chose to dine here and can't wait to return!

Sat amongst various kebab shops and local bars, Bistro Bar Med is a lovely little restaurant that offers a range of delicious tapas dishes in a cosy and casual dining environment. Their menu isn't quite as impressive as other tapas bars near the area in Liverpool and Crosby, but the selection on offer is still pretty good, and it's the only place I know of in Southport that offers this kind of dining experience. They offer both Spanish and Turkish tapas on their menu, giving the usual tapas menu an interesting twist. This means you can enjoy Spanish meatballs and chorizo alongside dishes of melted halloumi and vine leaves, giving you plenty of variety all in one meal. I've always thought of Southport as somewhat dated and stuck in the past, but I guess with tapas bars and sushi restaurants opening up maybe I should rethink this. A nice place to go if you fancy something different from the usual Italian, Chinese or Indian cuisine on offer locally.
