Khan was recommended to me by a co-worker, so I finally scheduled the appt - in the middle of a pandemic no less.

Everyone including Dr. Sklenicka where very nice, answered all my questions and listened to my concerns during my visits. I had a consult at a different oral surgeon several months ago and just wasn't comfortable when leaving so I never went back. Consult and surgery all within a week which was very convenient for me and my work. I tend to bruise easy but had little to NO bruising on my face, some bruising with the IV(to be expected). I iced my face to help with the swelling but also had little to no swelling! Took antibiotics and Ibuprofen as directed so I truly wasn't in ANY pain just some muscle soreness. Never woke up during procedure. Although I do suggest they should manually weight patients rather then just asking. All in all, I am very very happy with my experience with this office and my results from having all 4 wisdoms teeth out. Don't be a chicken! It's a relief to have it finally done and over.

On April 1, I underwent extraction of two wisdom teeth at North Florida Oral &Facial Surgery with…read moreDr. Scott Sklenicka. Following my consultation, I was provided with an estimate of over a thousand dollars. The office correctly charged the contracted in -network rate for the office visit and X-rays, but charged me the out of network, max price for the 2 wisdom teeth extractions. I immediately questioned the amount of the tooth extraction because my dental plan provides an approximate range of $170.00-$250.00 for this service, at 80% of covered charges. The staff member acknowledged that the estimate was likely incorrect and instructed me to speak with the front desk personnel on my way out. I proceeded with the extractions and, upon checkout, spoke with the front desk regarding the charges. I was informed that this was the rate they charged for tooth extractions, despite North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery being an in-network provider under my dental plan. When I questioned this, I was told, "This is how we charge." Therefore, it is unclear why the office applied the proper in-network pricing to part of the visit while charging me the maximum out-of-network rate for the tooth extractions performed during that same appointment. After recovering from the procedure, I contacted my dental insurance and was informed that I had been charged incorrectly. Once the claim was finalized, my dental insurance determined that the in-network contracted rate for all the services was much less than I had paid and I was owed over 800.00 in a refund for overpayment. According to my dental insurance, payment was issued on May 29, the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) was sent on May 30, and the payment check cleared on June 1. On June 10th, I participated in a telephone conversation involving my dental insurance, myself, and a representative from the oral surgeon's office. During that call, the office representative stated that someone would contact me by the end of the day regarding the EOB and the refund owed to me. I never received that call. On June 11, I contacted the office again and was told that a refund check of over 800.00 had been mailed on June 5. I was instructed to allow seven to ten days for delivery. I waited until June 24 to allow sufficient time for the check to arrive, but I still had not received it. I left a message for the billing department and then called the office and spoke with the office manager. During that conversation, she stated that the refund had been approved on June 11 and mailed on June 12, contradicting the previous information I had been provided. When I informed her that the check had still not arrived, she stated that she would contact the billing office and call me back. As of the close of business today, June 24th, I had not received any return call. It has now been twelve days since the refund check was allegedly mailed, and I still have no resolution, no refund, and no consistent explanation regarding the status of my funds. SECTIONS 456.0625 AND 408.12 OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES ESTABLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TO REFUND PATIENT OVERPAYMENTS WITHIN 30 DAYS OF DETERMINING AN OVERPAYMENT HAS OCCURRED. THESE LAWS APPLY TO LICENSED HEALTHCARE FACILITIES AND INDIVIDUAL PRACTITIONERS WHO FILE CLAIMS FOR REIMBURSEMENT WITH GOVERNMENT OR PRIVATE HEALTH PLANS. Based on the facts described above, I am deeply concerned about the billing practices employed by North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery. At a minimum, the conduct appears deceptive, evasive, and inconsistent with the obligations of an in-network provider. I WOUND NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE TO ANYONE! This review reflects my personal experience and is intended to help other patients avoid similar billing and insurance issues.
