Short story:
According to yelp's rating system, two stars indicates: Meh. I've experienced better. With regards to both physician and office personnel indicated below, I have had the good fortune to have experienced much better elsewhere. To be fair, let's call it 2.5/5.
Long story:
I went to this office several months ago and saw Dr. Reena Patel when I was feeling very sick. I had missed days of work and was only getting worse. My insurance had recently changed so my usual (wonderful) doctor wasn't an option. After searching through my new accepted provider listings and the internet for several hours, I came upon this office. Full of hope from reviews I'd seen on another site, I called to make an appointment. The receptionist was very kind and helpful - she accounts for the additional half star. I arrived a little late because i was sick and had never been to that neighborhood before.
The office was completely empty of any patients whatsoever, yet I had to wait to an unusual amount of time to see the doctor. Just as I was beginning to get antsy, a staff member who handled billing came out of the back office and spoke to me. I have a unique, but not unusual kind of insurance where I am covered by two different insurers. One of the reasons I selected this office is because they accept both. The young woman speaking to me was ignorant of this type of insurance situation and proceeded to tell me that the people she'd spoken to said there was no such thing. I assured her I was telling the truth and that all she had to do was contact the insurers to learn about this herself. She insisted that I pay the copay anyhow and that if what I said was correct, they'd mail me a refund. I was both too sick and too tired to walk away, so I paid out of pocket trusting that she would make a simple call or two and send the refund as promised. Never happened. My pharmacy and every other doctor I've seen all knew how to handle this insurance.
Dr. Reena Patel was underwhelming. She wasn't horrid, but considering I was the only patient in the office the entire time I was there, she didn't do any more than was required. She wasn't mean spirited or antagonistic, but neither was she particularly personable or comforting. I told her i had been looking for a new primary care physician and instead of saying something like, "Well glad you found us!" she said something more along the lines of, "Oh, so that's why you came here." She took some blood work which the office never called to give me the results off - but the lab they sent it to did not accept both insurance, so that added expense has to be tacked on too.
On my way out of the office, I was greeted in the corridor by a man I believe is Dr. Jayant Patel. He was older, and very gentlemanly. He took my had and thanked me for stopping by. Then he seemed to imply that he was overseeing everything in the office and that everything would be ok. Well, Dr. Reena had prescribed both good medicine and a good amount of rest, so eventually I got better, but unfortunately, I do not recommend her service unless you also are too sick and too tired to go anywhere else.
Three stars would indicate 'A-OK,' which isn't really what I feel is appropriate. So 2.5/5 is the most accurate rating. read more
