It's hard to review a hospital since the quality of care depends on who is there and your state of mind. On Friday I took my father to the cardiologist and he found water in his lungs. He said he had to immediately go to the hospital to get it drained and he recommended I go to St. Francis. My father being stubborn refused any hospital visit at first but finally we got him to go. When we drove into the parking lot I thought I would walk my father to the ER but the walk was too much. A staff exiting noticed us and helped us into the nearest entrance which was not the ER. He got us a wheelchair and even wheeled us to the ER. That was very nice of him considering he was on his way out. At the ER the triage nurse took a look at the cardiologist's papers and listened to the story while examining my father. They were patient with him even though he was getting cantankerous. The whole process took 20 to 30 minutes and we were let into the ER. My father was placed in a bed in the hallway. There were lots of beds in the hallway. They looked very busy. A doctor came and examined my father and ordered a chest X-ray and blood tests. The nurse expertly inserted a needle in, drew blood and left a space for the IV to go in the future. My father was not happy about the needle but they were reassuring to him. They gave me a chair and we waited. An X-ray machine came to us and they did a chest x-ray right at the bedside. The doctor came and said that the water was not in his lungs but around. She prescribed some strong intravenous diuretic. When he had to go to the bathroom, he refused to use the urinal so they used this contraption I've never seen before that wheels him to the bathroom and allows him to sit on the toilet. He had to go every 2 hours and was pretty demanding. But they stopped what they were doing to help me get him to the bathroom. They gave me a chair to sit next to him. They asked if I wanted anything. He was admitted but there was no room so we waited. A cardiologist came and patiently explained what was wrong (he has afib) and his options. He's stubborn so a pacemaker was out so the doctor prescribed him a beta blocker. I ask for food for him the first night but it never came which was one of the few complaints I had. I asked several times but I never got any menu for him till the afternoon of the next day. I managed to get him dinner, and breakfast. The food is probably the best hospital food I've seen. It is however tasteless (no salt because of people with high blood pressure. Finally, on Sunday we were discharged and we managed to get lunch before we left. They took care of everything and the process was smooth. Overall it was a good hospital with good people trying to give the patients the best care.

A distracted driver hit my vehicle yesterday in Queens after I was driving home from my birthday party in Greenwich Village. He said that he was looking at his cell phone's GPS when he rear ended me. My auto insurance company implored me to visit an ER within three days even if I am feeling well. I chose St. Francis after reading Yelp friend Frank T's terrific review. This hospital is part of the Catholic Health Services network for which my primary care doctor is a provider, so I did not need to provide staff any information about me. They already had it on file. The triage nurse was skillful and determined that I did not sustain serious injuries. The ER doc thoroughly assessed me and gave me a clean bill of health. ER parking is all the way in the back in designated spaces. I was Blessed to find one. I was also Blessed to visit this ER. I was out in less than one hour.

Less land less star every single time I come here, lol. Today I guess the reception lady has a bad day so she is not nice and welcome at all. Only thing she knows is 'NO' another person, she is nice and the crazy one cursed her out because she is too nice to visitors. Most visitors are patient's family, they always sad and worried. Why the hospital put a mean person to work at the check in desk and make visitors more stressed.

Dr. Serio was lovely but I waited over an hour for my first visit. She listened to my history while…read moretyping it on her computer. She assured me she would handle all of my refill prescriptions and I could call the office any time if I wasn't proficient on the portal. She was anxious to get to the next patient and didn't speak much. Her office staff seems overworked and hardly professional. They did not give her a message the first two times I called. My daughter helped me go on the portal to request a refill for my monthly medicine. It was sent to the pharmacy incorrectly and after 5 subsequent phone calls, 7 days later I had to call another doctor to send the correct medicine request to the mail order pharmacy. That office cost me additional money to fill the medicine and proved to have the most irresponsible office staff I have ever experienced. I DO NOT recommend Dr. Serio and am having all of my medical records transferred to a new Internist as soon as I see one next week. In my opinion, a doctor is only as responsible and committed to their profession as their selection of office staff and PA's. I would not trust my well being to her practice.

My experience with the practice and doctor was nothing worth the visit. I went here because it was…read moreclose to where I lived but it was mistake to go somewhere based on distance not quality. It honestly a business priority office. Leave your well being at the door. The office staff were not helpful and did not really care for the patients and were not friendly the slightest. I came in for a yearly exam and spent 90% of the time with the nurse who was very sweet and friendly. But the doctor max 15 mins where she mostly asked more about my social/ personal life than my actual health. Than she left and didn't leave much of an impression about actually making a connection. I understand your busy and have other responsibilities but if I see you once a yr can you try to act like you care. Than it was back to the sweet nurse who did all the other tasks. That didn't bother me as much until I had to get paperwork done for work a couple months later. I am upto date with all my vaccines and already had my yearly exam. And she would not fill out a simple form because she needed to me in person and her rude MA tried to me with an attitude that its office policy and no other reason. Mind you my other office would just charge a fee or give me a more solid reason to have me visit. Not use a form as leverage to get me in the door. That in my opinion is cruel and unreasonable. I have never written a review prior but this treatment left me to go somewhere else for my healthcare. If you can go somewhere else where they treat you less like a sheep and more like a person go there.
