Celebrity chef, farm-to-table, with a nice setting on a hill at the edge of town. But it can be annoyingly inconsistent. Jazamango is the heartfelt creation of chef Javier Plascencia. It can be really good. A showcase farm-to-table restaurant. Perhaps the service has slipped a bit, with a long wait for a table even with reservations a couple of times and food that's consistently inconsistent. Maybe best saved for happy hour as the drinks are always good, they have a nice wine selection and the chocolate clams are to-die-for excellent. The barbacoa tacos are excellent too. Sadly, the kitchen sent out a pizza that was burnt blackity-black all the way around the crust. I sent it back and they re-did it. But it should have never come out of a top-notch kitchen. Some undercooked Brussels sprouts also come to mind. For the price, it should always be good. read more

We came back this year with our daughters, and had the most wonderful leisurely lunch out on the shaded patio next to their garden. Everything we ordered was beautiful, fresh and divine. Very reasonably priced for the quality and care, too. They brought some fresh-baked focaccia to the table served with a traditional dipping sauce, and a unique Thai-like spicy sauce with peanuts. We started with the Passion Fruit aguachile with shrimp, passion fruit, persian cucumber, fresh pear (signature Javier Plasencia), red onion; oh my goodness. So unique and delicious. Might have to try to create this at home. Then we had the Seasonal Huerto Salad - note to self, when at a Javier Plascencia restaurant, always order some salad or vegetables - they are always out of this world. This one had fennel, cherry tomatoes, orange and grapefruit slices, candied pepitas, fresh pomegranate; added the burrata cheese. Phenomenal. The Argentinian Empanada w/ beef short rib and chimichurri was excellent. The margherita pizza was delicious, incredible crust. Amazing culinary experience in Baja, Mexico. A bit difficult to find at first, as it's located at a farm along a dirt road. When you walk in, you are greeted by an open air kitchen and pizza grill, where you can see the chefs working their magic. Their famous chocolate clams are to die for! We also had the shrimp tacos, which were deliciously fresh and hearty. Honestly, some of the best handmade blue corn tortillas I've ever had. The ambience was high-end and classy. It's unexpected to find such great food in the middle of the dessert on Baja... this amazing restaurant has excellent mexica gourmet. We Asked for varios plates but the most impressive were, bone marrow cooked on the braised and "chocolate" oysters also braised... we had other things but those two, I will never forget them... service was nice but slow they delayed more than ten minutes to deliver a glass of white wine to one person in our group ... we had all the other beverages and only waiting for that to say "salud", so that was a little disappointing. We took our daughter and granddaughter to Jazamango when they were in town visiting. The food and drinks were fabulous. The resident cats were entertaining but not at all annoying. Well in order to understand the culinary scene in Baja I wanted to try food from the Chefs that originally helped put Baja on the culinary map. Well, after planning my whole day around this reservation, about an hour and a half before I was informed via a text that they could not accommodate my reservation request?!? Was I giving a reason? Nope. After this I scratched off his other restaurants in the Ensenada area off of my must try list. We had two nights in Todos Santos (stayed at Hotel San Cristobal which was so lovely!), and had a reservation for dinner at Jazamango on our first night. It blew us away. It's right on their organic farm and the menu is so well though out. A lovely setting with incredible food and great service. We were served warm bread that came with three little sauces, one orange one which was habanero and so good, another green one which I can't recall, and our favourite...a sesame and chili oil combo that is out of this world! We started with a petite romaine salad that had a delicious creamy cotija dressing on it and oven roasted figs. It was so delicious!! My boyfriend then had the 38 day aged steak tartare with smoked butter and cured hens yolk...he was in awe. With every bite, he would sit back and exclaim at how amazing it was. Huge portions too, he couldn't finish it all! I went for the soup of the day, which was some sort of root vegetable soup (maybe parsnip??) served with tiny cubes of farmers cheese and fried lentils as garnish. I practically licked the bowl. We had a bottle of Xecue, a cab blend from Valle de Guadelupe. It paired so well with all of our dishes! I don't know why anyone has complained about the pricing. If $80 USD for a meal for two with a bottle of wine is too steep for you, stay home! We liked it so much and there was so much on the menu we wanted to try, that we went back for dinner on our 2nd and last night in Todos Santos!! On our 2nd night, he had the short rib tacos which he devoured, and I had the Brussels sprouts stalk...these were served to look like bone marrow (which can be scary for a vegetarian, but I got over it!). They were served with an aioli and some other spices and it was just delicious!! We also decided to split a margarita pizza since they have that amazing wood-fire oven! We added the garlic confit on that (which was listed on the other pizza). Really yummy. We again had the same bottle of wine and ended with a grilled corn bread and corn ice cream dessert that was everything I want in a dessert...sweet but not cloying. I could eat this every day. The service there is really amazing too. Marcela is the restaurant manager and really knows her stuff and was such a delight to chat with. And our server, Juan (I think?) was such a sweet guy who tried his English with us quite nicely. If you find yourself in Todos Santos and won't cry at spending $80-100 out for a nice dinner, get to Jazamango immediately!! read more

Food is excellent, the concept and the place is breathtaking. Our meal was superb.. from the bread, the chile salsas, to the cocktails and Mexican wine selection. The passion frui aguachile was fantastic. The suckling pig and the octopus were simply spectacular. Coffee and chocolate tart were decadent. I am giving 4 starts because of the service. They tried to give our food twice to the table next to us. The timing was off, the pig was cold, they ran out of the veal and some specific liquor. we had 3 different waiters helping us so they were confused. All of them super nice staff but for a restaurant of this quality the service should be not less than perfect and restaurants like this one cannot simply ran out of options listed in the menu. Just had lunch at Jazamango and if we could give 7 stars we would! Food was fantastic (sorry to say, but better than Flora Farms which we would give 6 stars to). This is a foodie heaven!!!! I had the hamachi tostada and the wife the grilled cheese sandwich plus split a a fantastic salad. Service was equally fantastic. Lunch (with drinks/wine) for two and 20% tip was around US$60 per person. An excellent value for what you get and worth the drive from San Jose del Cabo for a nice lunch. Do be advised that the food doesn't come out in a particular order, so if you are picky about this, please let them know. They have a huge, beautiful outdoor dining area that was perfect in the early evening. Menu feels very elevated and seasonal, with a focus on local and quality ingredients. Plus they do inventive cocktails, local beer, and have a solid wine list. We went the cocktails route and enjoyed one during dinner as well as another after. Peep the pics attached to see all the delicious, colorful food we ordered. Presentation was on point, flavors delivered, and there were some nice surprises in there. One of the standouts for me was the roasted cauliflower over a mole sauce--a combo I would've never thought of, but they went so well together. A hidden gem and a little drive in a what appears to be a desolate road, took us to one of our most wonderful food experiences. We went to Todos Santos from California specifically to eat at Jazamango. We knew if it was Chef Javier Plascencia's restaurant, the food was going to be great. It definitely didn't disappoint, our experience was phenomenal. The grounds are breathtaking and the detail from everything to the decor to the food didn't go unnoticed. We ordered a variety of small plates to share among 4 of us because there was so much we wanted to try. They make their bread in house & the food is seasonal which means not everything we ate could be on the menu if you decide to go. I can say, the beef short ribs were out of this world & the chocolate clams were also very delicious. Everything on the menu sounded great, including their craft cocktails. We tried many things on the menu, and even got charged for things we didn't order or try (check your charges). The bone marrow is served with beans and blue tortillas which were good, but of the four pieces of bone there was not enough marrow to fill even one small taco. Besides getting charged for food not ordered, I have an issue with how a mishap at our table was handled. we ordered the chicken as one of our entrees. it looked great, the plate was on the table and unfortunately someone at the table tipped their wine glass and broken glass and wine went all onto the plate of chicken. The plate was taken away and we were asked if we wanted another, we declined as we had ordered so much food and did not really need it. I was rather miffed that they did not remove this entree from the bill as the chicken was untouched (I would understand if it was eaten) but it makes me wonder if we would have been charged twice if we had them replace it. I understand that breaking the wine glass was our fault, but when our dinner bill was over $500, you would think, perhaps, it could have been removed. I am glad we experienced this place, but will not be returning. read more

On a day trip to Todos Santos we discovered Jazamango and it was hands down the best meal of our entire vacation. We wanted to try their entire menu and will have to make a return visit to conquer more of it. But the few things we tried were spectacular. We started with the Baja Oysters that were served with classic mignonette and serranito + ponzu. The oysters were perfectly briny and delicious. Next, we had the wood-grilled chocolate clams. We had read a lot about chocolate clams, but had never had them before and they were amazing. Served in a large shell, the clams were cooked in butter, green chile, jerky beef, Guanajuano, soy and fermented bean paste. They were spectacular. We also had the lamb barbacoa tacos which just melted in your mouth. Oh...and the complimentary bread basket was amazing. It had focaccia and a sourdough bread with two unique dipping sauces. We can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. Make sure if you go to Jazamango, you go to the farm & table restaurant, not the cafe. While I'm sure the cafe is great...the farm to table restaurant has such a cool vibe. My only complaint about them is that they don't open until 1PM. We went for lunch and therefore we were starving.
