I had an IKEA lamp w/ a cloth shade. The elastic band was no longer elastic and the cloth rolled up the bottom of the shade. I took it to JC Alterations and a new elastic band was sewed in, firmly holding in the cloth. Cost me $25 but I have my favorite lamp back! Highly recommended! read more

I had a pair of jeans that I like to wear. I needed a new zipper. I dropped them off at the shop and was told I would be texted when they were ready. This is the second time needed a new zipper. I took a new dress to JC Alterations to be taken in and shorten. Kaye never measure the hem she just penned a portion of it. When I picked it up I didn't have time to try on so I tried it on at home and the hem was uneven so I took it back and they botched the hem and didn't want to give my money back. Take your clothes somewhere else. Alterations were horrible. The man was very rude and they the lady never admitted she should have measured the entire hem. My money and time are too important. BEWARE: Extremely rude "service" from Joyce. I had called ahead to let her know I was coming in. There was another customer ahead of me when I arrived, so no problem, I waited about 15 minutes for my turn. Then while I was changing into my dress, another customer walked in and Joyce proceeded to help him instead. When I came out of the dressing room, I had to wait again for Joyce who was in a long consultation with the customer who came after me. I've noticed that Joyce is super nice to white customers (the one before and the one after me) but as I'm Asian, I don't get the same level of service or respect. She actually told me she doesn't have time to help me. Would NOT recommend this business to anyone. read more

Love, love, love this place. You never realize how important an alterations place is until you realize there is one two blocks away. Since moving to Bellaire, I've used them several times to shorten dresses, shorten jeans, repair holes in jeans, and make a clearly too large cocktail dress fit tightly. Website and door say they open at 9:30...it is now 9:45 and still no sign of movement. I guess the posted hours are "approximate"?? After finally showing up, not only did they not have the work completed they said would be complete yesterday, they had not even started working on it. This was 8 days after dropping it off. Wish I had read the reviews prior to leaving my item there to get work done. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to take your items. Worst place ever! I brought my jeans for an alteration so I could wear it on my friend's wedding reception. I asked them to keep the hem but when I went back to pick it up, I noticed that they just cut it off. When I told them about this, they kept insisting that I didn't ask for keeping the hem. And they tried to convince me that everyone else get it done without the hem, and that's the new style. OMG! I didn't ask for their opinion. It's my pants and I'm paying them to get it altered the way I want it. They were going through stuff and finally figured out that I did ask for hem and told me they'll redo my pants and me to pick it up in a week. I went back in 10 days and guess what? They still didn't alter my pants because they forgot. WHAT??? They told me they were busy since it's the prom season, as if that's a good excuse. I went back AGAIN the next day and my pants looked ugly the way they tried to reattach the hem. When I told them about this, their response was "It looks fine to me." UNBELIEVABLE!!!! They charged me the full price without even an apology. When I told them I had to drive an hour back and forth, they told me to look for a place that's nearby my house. And thay's exactly what I'll be doing. Stay away from these peope and take your clothes somewhere else! They're very rude and unprofessional. read more

About a year ago I brought in an old winter coat that still looked good but had a worn out zipper. They put a new zipper in it and saved me a lot of money that I would have had to spend on a new coat. A year later it is still working fine. Good quality. P.S. I had my pants hemmed a few weeks ago. They were ready in about a week and look great. It was $10 for the hem which seems about standard. They added a nice touch by steaming/pressing the pants and bagging them. Overall a solid job. read more

I can't speak on behalf of the alterations, but they do embroidery here, and I needed to get my name embroidered on my white lab coats. The style of coat I bought had minimal space for embroidery, so we were uncertain whether we could do the embroidery and have it be visible (i.e., big enough to read and not covered by the collar or not running into my arm pit). The guy who helped me graciously made a sample while I was there to see if my name would fit and look good with the smaller sized font we had to choose. When we determined it would work, he ended up making 3 other samples in different fonts/sizes and texted me pics of them so I could choose what I liked best. They get an A+ for their service and patience with me. He was very nice and understanding the whole time. I don't know if it's customary to make samples, but I guess I wasn't expecting it and was pleasantly surprised when he offered it. I never felt like I was annoying him when I was being particular. If my name is gonna be permanently on my coat, I want it to look good, right? I has happy with the results, and the price was reasonable. $12 for one line of text, which is the same quote I got from the Embroidery Shop right down the street. read more

Katie and Michael are always friendly, professional and timely. They take great pride in their work. I went in to get my prom dress fix and even though they told me it was a lot of work they were able to find a way to alter the dress the way i wanted at a reasonable price.
