I've taken a few classes here (B3) and loved it! The class was small in size, which was great because my instructor was able to give us all individual attention. I found this studio through class pass and have recommended it to quite a few of my friends. If you're looking for a change in your workout routine and interested in working out in a great space I highly recommend JC Barre Studio! I just have one tip: get there on time so you can claim a good floor space and stretch! Great work out. Engaging class, good music. I always feel the burn during and after. Instructors are nice and help you perfect your form. Facility is very small. If the class is packed you will be working out on top of other people. Parking in the area is terrible. You do have to clean your mat after the class. You do need to show up early to class or on time otherwise even if you are a minute or two late you will be locked out of the class with no way to get in (and still be checked off that you came?). JC Barre is a welcoming, down-to-earth studio with great barre classes. My favorite is the Barre Express class with Kali, which is both challenging and energizing. This class is a low-impact, full-body workout in 45 minutes so you can squeeze it in before work, etc., and still feel like you worked hard. Kali is an efficient and encouraging instructor, and she helps correct form and provides modifications if you need or are pregnant. It is also worth noting that this studio is more affordable than other barre studios I've been to; I highly recommend. read more

It took me forever to finally try this studio after walking past it for almost 2 years, but I'm so glad I finally did! They have plenty of classes to offer and it's always a good sweat session. I came to this studio for a yelp event. Not thinking anything of a "dancers" workout; I got my butt kicked by Paulina. I did some research about a Barre work outs and figured, "Oh, this doesn't seem too bad". I went about my business and worked out (legs) the day before so naturally I was sore from that. Then by the time we were half way done with our work-out, my legs were shacking. Paulina starts off very slow, you're thinking "I got this" then it slowly starts kicking in. You dont think you're moving much or doing anything crazy but then you start to feel small muscles and thats what barre is all about, working out your small muscles. Paulina does a great job of projecting her voice, walking around and fixing form so you can really feel it. The class consisted of a full body work out I would say. We started with some arm movements with weights. Here I am thinking, 3lbs, thats nothing, 5 minutes later I opted out for some 2lbs (so word to the wise, go with the lighter weights first). Then we did different leg movements, and we finalized with abs. The studio, is pretty small.I presume its because you don't really need that much space. I'm pretty sure my glutes (AKA ass...ets) are going to burn when I wake up tomorrow! As someone who thoroughly enjoys to work out and push my physical limits (I've done kickboxing, crossfit, and other fitness challenges) I was very impressed by the cardio class I just took, courtesy of YELP GETS SCHOOLED. Amazing. At first I thought "oh, this is going to be a piece of cake" once I saw the itty-bitty 2lb hand weights and a bouncy ball that weighed NADA! Pfttt. But, no, I was wrong. 10 minutes in, I'm sweating profusely. The exercises are meant for that slooooooooow burn, the burn that's so good and your body will thank you for, LATER. If at any point during the class your body says "UH- STOP!" the instructor reminds you that "You're almost done, don't give up now!" and newly encouraged, you try to push through. The workout consisted of a series of exercises, new moves I will now add to my workout routine. And those 2lb hand weights I initially scoffed at eventually had my shoulders burning, and the bar I thought we were going to simply do little girl ballet moves on was used for some real burning movements (mostly for my glutes) and to hold my feet during my "fancy plank". My plump booty thanks you JC Barre, and although I don't remember the instructor's name (Thursday 6:15 class) she was great: good, encouraging tone, and wasn't afraid to nicely fix your posture or challenge you! Amazing. I would definitely take another class here, totally worth the burn and money, though if you make it a habit it will certainly burn a hole in your wallet: $120/month for unlimited classes. read more

The studio is pretty small but it is probably best so the instructors to get a personal in depth look on how to get the students super sore the next day. I've never done a barre work out before and honestly never heard of it until when I showed up for the class for a Yelp event. I thought it was interesting that I was the only guy for the class. Paulina was a great instructor bringing a lot of energy and worked my ass hardbody! We did warm ups and arm work outs where I started with 5 lbs but ended going lower to 3lb weights. I shouldn't have written that last part as people might think I am a tiny weakling. Anyway, I also did plie moves for the first time in my life and that was a struggle as my body moved in ways I never thought possible. I was sore in unusual places around my arms and legs that were isolated from exercising. Barre Studio is a great place for a work out for both men and women to get your sweat on. read more

2 Months postpartum, I really needed to get my jiggles back into their proper places which is hard to do with tiny human constantly attached to me. I had found out that JC Barre offers a mommy & me class every Tuesday and Thursday morning, so I was at their door before I felt another jiggle. I called the studio at 6:45 am inquiring about if the class was on that day and to my surprise, someone answered! The answering service relayed my message to the teacher (Megan) who called me back and answered all the questions I had. The class was small, about 5 of us, 4 of us had babies ranging from 8 weeks to 5 months. Megan was friendly and accommodating to all the tired mommies and our fussy babies. You can put your baby on a yoga mat next to you while you worked out (my little guy loved the blue bands dangling over him, and I got to do push ups over him giving him a little kiss every rep). If you are lucky and your wee one is asleep through the whole class, leave them in their bassinet or car seat. If your little one is fussing, you can do modified versions of all the different moves while holding them, which as it turns out, gives your arms a great workout. Megan helps to guide you through all of it. The work out was amazing, it wasn't watered down from the regular class at all. Trust me, you will feel the burn. Bottom line: I loved this mommy and me barre class. I got to have a great work out and be with my baby at the same time, who said you can't have the best of both worlds? read more

Coach Will teaches in the building that I used to live and now training with him online at JC Barre (the virtual classes actually allow me to take class with him again). The energy he brings to class is a just a whole different level - he keeps you motivated throughout the class and encourages you to challenge yourself each and every class. Generally speaking, I find it hard to stay engaged in virtual classes, but Will's instructions and music just brings it together and keeps my focus. This is my absolutely go to class for strengthening and toning, especially having had two babies back to back. read more

You can tell Paulina lives and loves dance, and she does a great job of using classical technique as a killer workout. I don't generally like group classes but didn't feel self-conscious. I love JC Barre! I first tried Barre in Hoboken last fall, and as much as I loved it, I am not going to schlep half an hour to work out (not that motivated, OK?). I went to the rented space at Grassroots in November, and due to an unrelated injury, had to take a long break. I went to the new studio three times so far, and it's fabulous. I love both the B3 class and the Boot Camp class. Boot Camp is almost like an amped up Pilates, so it's not harsh and high impact and yelling and all that you might have experienced in other Boot Camp classes. The prices have gone up since the move, but the space is way better and there are a ton more class times now. Keep an eye out for specials and for fundraising donation classes. read more

I've been enjoying this studio since it opened and the classes are great. Instructors are all different and no two classes are the same. In particular, Paulina's playlists are always eclectic and her classes are take no prisoners tough! I love William's ballet based discipline, when he says lower an inch I lower! But honestly they are all great and very professional. I've take barre classes and different types like Pure Barre and Barre 3, I find these instructors and this studio rank as good as or better. Highly recommend the studio...I like that it's small and we get to know each other. read more

Love this place! Megan and William are amazing. I used to go to Mommy & Me with Megan and she was so warm and made me feel comfortable when starting out with Barre. Then I started taking William's B3 class. He gives a great workout and is so sweet, full of energy. I have also taken Morgan's B3 classes a few times and got a really great workout as well. I would definitely advise not to take Paulina's class. Even though she is the owner, her classes are weak, in my opinion. You can sign up for classes and pay online, which is nice. I have definitely showed up a few times without signing up first and they were always very nice about it (especially Megan in Mommy & Me). read more

Took my first Barre class about 3 weeks ago and wanted to wait a bit before writing my review. Now, dubbed a "pro" by William last week, I felt it was time to spread the word about the team. I hate to play favorites, but Kelly (I think that's her name?) from California had the energy and spunk to keep us all flailing all hour together - and she was on her 3rd class! My favorite instructors counted it down and talked us through what movement was coming next so we could seamless transition. I saw another reviews below had a bad experience with transitions and form - some instructors are more hands on than others, but the mirrors are there to help you keep your form and stay on beat and tuck and extend when the timing hits. Some workouts were more effective on my body than others, but overall, Im really enjoying this experience and plan to purchase more courses! read more

There comes a time in every adult woman's life where working out completely falls off the radar. It usually starts with some life event (moving, job change) but then the laziness (ahem...momentum) kicks in, and before you know it, it's been a while (ok, a long time) since you've been. When that happens, and you finally kick your own ass to get back in the working-out habit, you need to find a place that really fits your needs, or you'll be back in the inactive abyss again. For me, having just moved to Jersey City a few weeks ago, a place that fit my needs needed to be: *Affordable (easy to do since I've been used to NY prices) *Class times that fit very long work hours (so both early morning and later evening) *Variety (I don't want to do the same workout every time) *Nice, motivating instructors *Close to home/public transit Thankfully, I found JC Barre, which fit all of the above! I signed up for the new member monthly unlimited and have done 4 classes so far (Hip Fit, Dance Cardio, JC Barre and Pilo). The times are great, the studio is bright and comfortable, and I am looking forward to making this place where I can say I got back into my routine. read more

I'm one of those people who HATES exercise. I really do. I need really low-impact exercise or everything starts hurting, and up until now I've only found success with to yoga, pilates, and swimming. I once cried and walked out of a spin class. BUT JCBARRE HAS BEEN AMAZING. I've been sweating and doing cardio and using weights and attempting plank exercises for a month now. I got their $60 unlimited first month membership, and it was a fabulous deal. I've taken all different kinds of classes during my month (including a dance class inspired by Beyonce dance moves) and from the first moment I felt like what I could give would be okay. Yes, there are some amazingly strong goddesses in these classes, but it's also a really safe place for a uncoordinated sweaty people. The instructors are great and very supportive, and they clearly are into what they're doing. They give a lot of count downs to keep the class inspired to finish, and give really clear instructions. The monthly pass is over now, and I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to keep going at the rate I was, which is really disappointing. But it was a blast while it lasted. If you can get that $60 monthly pass, I highly recommend spending a month with these fabulous people. read more

I love my JC Barre classes! I have been a part of many gyms and have tried many classes/programs -pilates, bikram, boot camp, curves, boxing gym, CKO... I like to think my review is pretty valid! I do not have a ballet background nor am I very flexible but somehow the instructors make it work for everybody! Classes are usually intimate as space is comfortably limited. Barre concentrates on core and tones me, without making me look manly. I do miss Mary Helen but JC Barre has many great instructors all around, who pay close attention to detail!!! read more

Fun classes with knowledgeable and kind instructors! Coming from more "intense" barre classes in NYC it is a bit less challenging but still a great workout! The only reason I don't give it 5-stars is because the studio could use a bit of a facelift. The equipment is kind of old and things just feel a bit messy. I took my first class yesterday at this local studio through Classpass. I have to be honest I was extremely disappointed overhearing the instructor basically act as if she was Jillian Micheals. She made a crass comment to the women taking the class before ours that if Ryan Gossling would walk into the room he would not want to sleep with any of the women. She didn't say the F word but I believe this was a demoralizing and inappropriate comment. I believe that this type of comments are not motivating to move forward. I do enjoy my fair share of barre classes both in NJ and NYC. I have found that the more challenge comes from focusing on the form, focus on the movements and countdown to keep going. read more

The studio isn't the most reliable place to workout. The space is not user friendly. There is no water fountain, so if you didn't fill your bottle, you're stuck buying a plastic bottle. They leave about 3 minutes between classes and the (single) bathroom is located through the studio, so if you arrive early and want to relax/decompress/change/use the bathroom, you're out of luck and the space there is to wait is too small for the class size. There is never any space to put your things if there is a class before you. You have to stand there and wait until the class is done to put your stuff down and then rush to get your stuff in a cubby and find a spot in the very small time frame between classes. The equipment needs some sprucing up and you're expected to clean your mats after the class, which wouldn't be a problem if the class wasn't so expensive. Half the instructors are great and the other half don't bother to interact or even suggest modifications of advanced moves for different levels. The studio is just okay. read more

Never knew I wanted to write a review for a workout class. But I had to share good places like here. :) I have been going to JC Barre starting from 3 months ago. The instructors are very welcoming making people feel easy and they are very encouraging. And of course good prices, various schedules, and different kind of workout. For the first visit, you might feel the studio is a bit small or not fully equipped compared to other workout gyms. But I swear I've sweated here more than any gyms I've been to. And they are fully equipped for all workout routine. I've lost 4.5lb without any restriction to food. My body is hella toned than before. I can't wait to be more strong and shaped! read more

I've been consistently going to barre classes here for about 3 years and still love it here. I'm happy since I've started going, they've adding different types of classes as well. Circuit Burn class, which is their HIIT class, is pretty intense with active recovery between exercises, but it's as tough as you want to challenge yourself. Each week in itself is different, but each instructor also does things a bit differently, and I really like the variety so you never get bored and you're constantly working out different parts of your body. Hipfit: I've never taken a cardio type dance class ever, and I was a little wary of it because I've seen other hip hop type fitness classes at other gyms and they always looked a little cheesy and outdated. Laura's class is a bit fast paced, but after 1-2 classes, things start clicking. If you're a bit self conscious, just know everyone is focused on the instructor and everyone is just trying to keep up with her. There's no air of judgment and everyone just laughs at themselves at their own mess ups. For anyone with Horizon health insurance, utilizing the Activefit app (free download), you can "check in" to the studio and receive $20 reimbursement from insurance each month for going to at least 12 classes a month. I always wanted to try out barre classes and I am SO happy that I checked out JC Barre! I tried the free introductory class and was really challenged which motivated me to want to try more. I took advantage of the discounted first month for new students which really allowed me to take a variety of classes with different instructors for B3. I learned that all the teachers have their own styles but I am always challenged and motivated to keep coming back. For some background, I am an athlete but recently found out I have a significant loss of cartilage in my knees so I have been regularly going to PT. My barre classes have made such a huge difference in my strength that my physical therapists have noticed it and encourage me to keep going to improve my situation and overall health. JC Barre basically cemented my love for barre. I only go to B3 classes, but every instructor I've had is supportive, instructive, and most importantly they push you further. Some instructors are more intense than others, but I've liked every class I've taken. I like that JC Barre is very clean and unpretentious about barre, and the instructors make an effort to make even new people feel comfortable with what they're doing. I am obsessed with this studio. I came across them through ClassPass and if you look at my history of classes, I mostly go to them. I love the classes, instructors, how I feel after, and how my body is changing to their unique classes. I would highly recommend. I HATE EXERCISING. I haven't stepped foot in a gym or studio in years. But I am officially hooked to the classes offered at this studio. I've been going for almost 3 weeks now and I've actually been sneaking out of the office early just to make it to some of the classes because I really enjoy them! All of the instructors I've taken classes with so far have been awesome! I've taken B3 with Paulina and Ruth, Hip Fit with Laura, Beyoncé Barrdio with Kelly, and PlyoJam with Megan. Love the variety! I had my first ever barre workout here with my best friend and my mother this past weekend, we all purchased the monthly unlimited new student special. The class (b3) literally kicked my butt.
