Wow, how have I not done a review on my favorite hip-hop class yet?? I've been going to Brandon's class on/off for at least 6 years but he always remembers me :) I ebb and flow like a ninja, and usually return when going through a rough patch in life and need some grounding because I find dance therapeutic. I love that it's an absolutely judgment-free zone. We all mess up the steps as we learn and laugh together about it. Nobody cares if you don't get the moves; nobody's trying to outshine anyone. Growing up, my family always told me I had no rhythm and COULDN'T dance, and made fun of me any time I tried, so I believed them. But I love music and dance so much that I first started taking Brandon's class just so I could prove them wrong. You may start out shy, but you quickly overcome this because of how supportive everyone else. The class definitely helps bring you out of your shell. I also dig the casual nature of it, because when I initially researched hip hop classes I heard some places could be some real nazis about it, and I just wanted to have a good time! I also love that you learn basic steps that you can refine on your own for any situation, and also learn a routine that you build over for 5 classes in the latter half of class. YES, it can sometimes feel like a big speedy jump from the first portion of the class to the next, because the 2nd half of the class moves MUCH more quickly (I find that practicing the routine at home helps a lot) and can feel less "beginner-ish" but the more you go and do it, the better your body remembers! And then when you nail a full routine you feel like A DANCER, haha. I recommend this class to anyone who just wants to dive right in and DO it, no matter how shy you are! :D read more

Completely unorganized, and packed! NOT for beginners!!! Class started 10min late & ended 10min early. I met 2 of my friends at HHDJ for our first HipHop class. As an aerobic & yoga instructor, I found the class WAY too fast moving for beginners! It was hokey and most everyone around me appeared to be Extra embarrassed at the end of our (max 45min) class.... we had to free style. ALL nearly 50 of us. It's like, WHAT?!?!? You just taught us 10 hip hop moves at lightning pace and you want us to WHAT?! Free style? Anyway, as we were leaving, my friend said, "I feel even worse about myself after that class". I, personally, was ready to have a good laugh at myself & a sweat. But I got neither of those. The 3 of us agreed it was a BIG NAAAHHH for a return visit. I was sO hoping to have learned at least a couple of moves. Nope. Go ONLY if you've been to several hip hop classes. read more

Hip Hop Dance Junkies is amazing. Brandon is super chill and very personable. He breaks down the steps well, but makes sure to tie it all together into a fun routine. He does pick up the pace at the end so pay attention! But in the end practice makes perfect. He is engaged with everyone even after class, answering questions over Facebook or Email, and sending video content as well. I initially read some earlier reviews of this and was not sure what to expect because they were mixed. Overall, the best way to do this class is to go in with the expectation that it will be fun, and you will feel a little awkward while learning the moves. Looking to bring out your inner dancer? Cool, me too, but there's a reason they tried to hide me in the back when I took dance classes as a child. Regardless of my own personal skill level, Brandon's dance class is not only one of the best beginner hip hop classes I took in the city, it's simply just one of the best dance classes here period. Brandon is probably one of the most patient teachers I've come across. He's good at breaking down the moves, and even though I'm not a good dancer, I've never once felt self conscious in his class. The routines are always interesting as well. So why not five stars then? The classes get very, very crowded. This might not be a problem for most people, but I'm pretty tall and have very long legs. I need a good amount of room into to do most of the moves properly. As such, I found myself constantly running into other people. Maybe if there were another class on the schedule that would help the overcrowding issue, so I'll be keeping an eye out for that. Regardless, it's still a very good class and might not be an issue for most people anyway. read more

I bought this package on Groupon and went for the first time yesterday. The building is really easy to get to, pretty much every train goes there. The class is up on the 12th floor and there are a bunch of benches you can sit on if you get there early. Brandon is super cool, and really patient with everyone. He repeatedly asks if anyone has questions about the moves and if we would like to go over it again. The room we used last night, 1212, was a really nice size, had a bunch of windows and wall mirrors- but it was pretty hot, so definitely bring some water with you. I haven't taken a dance class for almost 20 years, so there was a few times where I just stopped and started laughing at myself because I couldn't keep up when he put the music on- but I sure wasn't alone on that one! All in all I really enjoyed the class- I had a lot of laughs and I can really see myself learning the entire routine if I practice :) I highly recommend taking this class, even if you hate dancing- you will get a great workout! read more

I had absolutely no structured dance experience before joining this class. The first class was very intimidating, as many moves were shown and the speed of some routines were very quick. I felt very lost, self-conscious and discouraged. Through asking B.R.&.O.N (the instructor) questions during class and consistently practicing outside of class, I have been able to improve my dance skills and my confidence has increased. B.R.&.O.N is an awesome instructor who breaks down dance moves clearly and will slow down to show the moves if the pace is too quick and you ask him to slow down. The only major part that is not satisfying about the class is that classes very often get crowded, and the room size is not accommodating of sufficient space to do certain dance moves and routines fluidly. No matter what your dance background is and how shy you may be, this dance class is AMAZING and worth trying. You must, however, be open-minded and expect that you will make mistakes on the path to developing and achieving success. HHDJ is a positively inspiring, enjoyable, and excellent experience that is highly recommended as a worthy challenge and for personal improvement of the mind and body. read more

He does a good job of mixing in footwork and well known hip hop dance moves with a choreographed dance and makes it easy to learn and practice in he way he uses social media and makes a private group for people who are taking or have taken the class.
