Yeah know, honestly, it is what it is. It's exactly what you'd expect. Same as it always has been since the early 2000s. Me and my friends came here to take dumb photos for the office and I truly believe we got what we paid for, personally. As someone who used to shoot photography and I have many friends in the business, for some basic pictures, JCPenny is actually saving you money. If you're going into it with the mindset that they're going to look like model quality, movie lighting, outstanding pictures, then that's a you problem. Anyhoosies, do kids practically run it? yes. is it nonprofessional? absolutely. But ya know what, take the $280 you would've spent here and use it as the deposit payment for your $2,000 photos elsewhere. P.s. Sorry bout that last part. Felt a bit harsh. But for reals, there are worse things happening in the world than for anyone to hate on basic 2000s style backdrop photography. read more

Completely unprofessional, everyone lacked knowledge of photography or how to do their job. Our session was interrupted at three times because another employee needed help. We had a toddler and the interruptions were very impactful to the outcome as well. Pictures did not turn out well. The few great shots were missed somehow. Wish I could get that hour and a half time back, don't waste your time or money!! Should have checked reviews first!! read more

We went to the Clackamas photo studio. We should have been offered backgrounds or props to choose from. It was a very fast session. I am so upset. They did it with a hardwood floor and wall it was like I could have done it at my own house the same photos. The photos were off-centered. I will never go here again. I am so disappointed. read more

Worst photo experience I've ever had. Not worth your time and effort getting ready for the photos. Certainly not worth the cost. Photographers shouldn't make adults feel like children and should ask them to say random phrases to make them smile. It's creepy, unnecessary, and messes up the photos because you make weird, uncomfortable faces when you're asked to say things you're not comfortable with. Thanks for the lesson in sticking with your local photographer. I will never be returning. read more

First off, the photo studio is hidden in a very discrete location on the second floor. There are no signs, it's covered by 2 display walls, it's next to the clearance section of the bedding area and pretty much looks like a hallway you would walk down to go to the restroom or private offices of people that work there. Once you are there, it's pretty small, dark, and has poor airflow or maybe no airflow. I don't know, it just got really hot. We made an appointment for 4:15, we got there 10 mins early, got checked in, and weren't called until 4:45 (30mins late). Once we got into the studio, the photographer seemed already really annoyed with us. We told her it was for school photos (not knowing that just meant some headshots but we were really looking for a variety of full body, half body, headshots, whatever photos we can get of our son) so she seemed super annoyed that we used the wrong lingo to describe what we were looking for. So before the photo session even started, I felt like the photographer was already annoyed with us and felt some tension. It was a photoshoot for my 18 month old, so of course, he was crying and not cooperating. There were no props or any thing to distract him or help calm him down. They gave him a stool to sit on that was too big for him, so there would have been no way he could sit on it without fall off. They were pretty strict about having him stand still or sit still on a dot on the floor for the photo, which is very difficult to ask a 18 month old to do. Then ~15mins into our photo shoot, the photographer tells me (this is a direct quote), "we have to hurry up and finish because the next person needs this backdrop for their photos." And then after snapping a few photos, she asks me, "do you want to call it now?" Honestly, I was pretty hot, stressed, and exhausted from trying to get my 18 month to cooperate for the photo, so I just gave up and said ok, we are done. So then we were picking out photos and there were no prices listed anywhere, when I asked for photo prices or package prices, nothing was explained to me. Apparently, there are studio session fees, $14.99 each person, which I didn't know about because I had asked if it was ok for my 3 year old daughter to jump in the photo to try to help calm my son down, so just by doing that, the session fees jumped up to $29.98 for two people. I feel bad for writing a bad review but there were just too many compounding factors that made this experience really not enjoyable. The biggest thing is I don't think it was fair that we had to get our session truncated to help compensate the mismanagement of their schedule. We made an appointment, we were there 10 mins early! We even got there before another family and they took that other family in first. So I don't get it. Maybe it was just an off day because I do see some pretty positive reviews on here but I do see some pretty bad reviews too, so maybe it's just random and we happened to be unlucky that day. read more

I would give a zero if possible. First of all, the photographer kept commenting on how my husband looked and nobody else, not appropriate to me. Also, the pictures were horrendous. She didn't bother to take just a picture of my husband and I, and she kept trying to sell more than I told her I wanted. HIGHLY unsatisfied I won't be going back. The people were nice. You get what you pay for. We hadn't had a family photo since COVID so I got a Groupon for a few digital shots. Some of the suggested poses were odd and many of the pictures were off center or not proportional. Probably will pay more for quality next time. read more

I had a good experience here. We came for the big baby day and I'm glad we did. The session was a good amount of time, a bit short because our baby was pretty fussy at first, but that wasn't the photographers fault, so no problem there. We got some great pictures in and they had some very clever ideas for poses and props. They were accommodating and quick to get some great shots between blinks and outbursts. Their photo package was also not that bad, really. Do people expect to get their pictures for free or pennies? That's why these companies have gone out of business. For what we got out of the session the pricing was fine. If you're worried about spending money on well taken photos printed on good quality paper, then don't come. But to be surprised at higher pricing than printing your photos at Costco is silly. I hope to come back here for the next milestone in our baby's growing up to capture his adorableness in a professional setting again. If you're touchy about pricing and don't want someone trying to get you to actually spend your money, don't come here. But if you are okay with prices that aren't terribly high for great photos, do come! read more

Extremely rude customer service at the Tigard location very unprofessional they make mistakes on scheduling appointments then blame the customer then when it comes time to make up for it they argue until you are wrong I recommend never using this location I recommend Clackamas or maybe not JCPenney's Studios at all extremely rude unlikely to ever use again read more

I don't understand all the 1 star reviews here. It's not the same experience as hiring a photographer for a photo shoot, but I just wanted a couple shots of my 6 month old in a cute outfit and that's what I got. They obviously have a lot of experience photographing kids and families. I came with a Groupon which they were more than helpful about redeeming and though they offered me other prints, they didn't push them on me. I thought the photographer could've been a little quicker on the draw in capturing some of my child's expressions, but I'm not sure about the limits of their camera technology. Our photographer also felt a little rushed, so those two things are why I docked a star, but with another good coupon, I'd come again! I think it would be too expensive without one though. read more

First time portrait session at JC penny for my 3 y/o and it went SPLENDID! The staff there is so great, Cheyenne was our photographer and our wild child was immediately taken with her. She has a real gift for connecting with children and captured some great moments. She even told us about some specials and helped us save some money! Overall we are VERY pleased with our experience! These people obviously don't care about the outcome of your pictures. It's fast in-fast out. No questions of what you would like what so ever. I had to tell our photographer my eyes were closed after each picture in order for her to take another shot. Otherwise I would have 25 pics with my eyes closed to choose from. Also when it came time to choose pics the second lady was incredibly inpatient when my husband and I were trying to choose poses. She rolled her eyes when I asked to look at a pic twice. I'm addition she was talking so loud (almost in a yelling voice) while standing one foot away, I had to step back just to gain my thoughts. Totally unprofessional. Never going back. So glad I got a groupon for $25 and didn't pay full price for that crappy service! read more

I went to the Washington Square location of JCP Portraits for my son's first birthday photos. This was the first time that I'd been to their studio. I had received an email coupon which was a pretty good deal, so I decided to go with JCP for the photos. When I arrived at the store I had a horrible time actually finding the studio. I'm not a directionally challenged type of person but due to the lack of signage in the store it took quite a while to get upstairs to the studio. I got in pretty quickly for the appointment and the photographer wanted to take a few photos with me and my son to get him comfortable. I told her that I wasn't planning on being in the photos and my husband wasn't there so this was not a family shoot, it was just for my son. She said they were "test" photos and they wouldn't count towards the total number of pictures. So we went ahead with the shoot. The photographer was nice and my son did pretty well. I noticed that she didn't give him the opportunity to stand in any of the pictures, and she didn't retake any of the ones that were obviously not going to turn out. She wasn't able to get him to smile, but I wasn't too concerned about that since he's so young (even though one of the other photographers got him to smile like crazy before and after our shoot). When it came time to view the photos, I was rushed through the process and didn't really get a good look at any of them. I needed to order some wallets so I picked my favorite and ordered. I was disappointed to find out that shipping to my home is way too expensive, so I decided that I'd go back and pick up my photos even though it was pretty inconvenient. Then came time to pay. It turned out that the coupon I had was emailed to me in error. They would not honor it. Nice little bait and switch. So they ended up applying other discounts and I think I got an ok deal. The next day I was emailed the digital photos I ordered. I got an error message with every photo when I followed the download instructions, but I was able to view them online. I hated them. First, all of those "test" photos did end up counting into the total. Second, they included ones where my son was half tipped over and others where he looked like a different kid. They were awful. So I tried to contact them by email and phone and got nowhere. Finally, I was able to talk to someone and they said they don't offer re-shoots when you buy the digital photos. I ended up convincing them to do it since I was shorted photos when the "test" ones were included. A person from the studio called me back and said they'd try to "get me the smiles I wanted" which isn't even what my complaint was. Not only are they almost impossible to contact, but they also don't listen to you when you finally do talk to someone. This is horrible customer service. So I scheduled a re-shoot and checked in few minutes late because again I couldn't find the studio (arg!) and then I had to wait in line behind several other families to check in. Then the lady at the counter told me that they'd have to squeeze me in between other shoots because I'd missed my slot. I waited for a while before I got in. The re-shoot was fine and the photos were better but still not great. Through all of this, I never was notified that the prints I'd ordered were ready to pick up. It turns out that the pick-up date is printed on the receipt which I wasn't aware of. So the photos were actually available when I had gone in for the re-shoot and I had no idea. So I'd tried contacting them and waited for a reply for 6 weeks before someone finally got back to me and told me that the photos had been sitting there all along. Which was now too late to include them in the thank you cards I was going to send out for my son's birthday. When I went to pick them up, they of course tried to up-sell me on other prints. Some of which they'd already printed. They wanted something like $30 for a photo magnet that they'd included in the envelope. When I said I didn't want it, he just took it back. I wonder what happens to that random photo of my son. Is the product you think is worth $30 going into the garbage? Sounds like a rip-off to me. That was my experience. They lured me in with cute backdrops and a fake coupon, but there's no way I'm falling for that again. I will not be returning to JCPenney Portraits again. This was an experience that should have been a lot of fun, but it wasn't at all. I'll be driving across town next time to a competitor, or I'll hire a private photographer. Not impressed. Made an online appointment and in the appointment I noted that I would be bringing a smash cake for my daughter's first birthday pictures. I never received a phone call confirmation so when I showed up they said I could not get the pictures taken with the cake because I didn't bring a blanket. I informed them that no one called to confirm and I didn't think to bring a blanket because I had done a smash cake for my oldest at portrait innovations and it wasn't an issue. We went to the JCPenney Portrait Studio at Washington Square Mall last week to have Christmas photos taken of our two little grand-daughters. We had an appointment, and were on time. We did get attended to fairly quickly when we arrived, even though the studio was fairly busy. The studio area itself is small, but does have a few little chairs and TV out front for children who are waiting. Our complaint is with the quality of the pictures and the prices. The young girl who was our photographer was very nice, and talked to our grand children nicely, but did not seem to be very skilled or experienced with children who didn't really want to sit down for photos. Our youngest grand-daughter (who is 18 months old) wasn't too keen on sitting for photos so that in itself was a difficult situation. But the photographer didn't even offer her a toy to hold, or a cute chair to sit in, or anything to hold her attention. She just kept taking pictures of what she could get, and when it was all over, none of the pictures turned out any good. They all had funny faces, or closed eyes, or weird expressions because the little one wasn't really sitting and looking at the camera. I know children are hard to photograph, but this photographer seemed content to just take what she could get, instead of trying her hardest to get some really good photos. Then, when they showed us the photos, they tried to get us to purchase a package that they said was originally $450 but we could have it that day for $250. When I asked if I could just buy the CD so I could look at the photos later, I was told it was $149, which is double what I paid for a CD full of good pictures 6 months ago. I said I didn't want to pay that much for a bunch of pictures I didn't even like, they had no helpful response or offers, just told me that if we didn't buy something that day the photos wouldn't even go online for us to look at or purchase later. We had a session today for maternity. Although the photographer had entertained my 3 year old with his mimics, the quality of the photos was not up to the mark. We realized that after we downloaded the photos at home. Most of the photos looked redundant. The side poses showcasing me with my maternity bump was few. The others just had the maternity bum without my face in picture and my husband or my son hugging and frankly speaking doesn't look appealing. The couple of photo poses which looked good had my son with his eyes closed or showing some faces. The poses could have been re done but that was not the case. Not that impressed with today's session. The only thing which was good was the mimics done by the photographer which entertained my son. read more

We got our kids portraits here at the Washington Square JC Penney. I have scheduled a session online the day before the shoot, which was convenient. When we got there, the woman at the counter was assisting another customer. She addressed us cordially and let us know it would be a few minutes. They had a little nook with Finding Nemo playing, which was my kids fav, which made the little wait fun. We waited for about 5 mins and were called in. The photographer was professional and courteous. She was good with kids. After the shoot, we were to pick our poses. My husband had his work calling him on his phone which he had to attend. During which the woman helping us with the pictures, was patient and showed how they could be enhanced and offered many varieties, which was nice. We got the pics in 2 weeks, and they turned out really good. All in all we had good experience and certainly would recommend. The photographer was nice with the kids and did get good poses and they didnt try to push us to purchase prints, did definitly offered all the available choices and assisted in picking the right one for us.
