Klein Tools, many made in the USA. They have items like a flameless heat gun, which could go well with their contactless infrared thermometers. They stock plenty of datacom cables and parts, routers and hubs, HDMI and other video cables. They also have heat shrink tubing. Don't forget the awesome Elenco Snap Circuits for kids! URS stocks some Spark Fun Arduino and Lilypad Arduino items! They also have LED strips. Those are all pretty useful things you will not find in retail stores in Portland! The universe of electronics parts is huge now, and it is difficult for local suppliers to stock. So their actual parts selection is small. They have blister packed 74xx and the like, and a few bulk resistors, capacitors and LED's. But they are a good place to check if you can't wait on remote suppliers for something you need now!

Visage has a cool selection of frames-- but go somewhere else to have the lenses made-- their lab sucks. I've had great lenses made with ABC Vision and Eyes On Broadway. I want to say ABC in Hillsdale was the best Rx and lens ever. Eyes on B'way did honor a warranty, though, when the coating didn't last. But eh, the coating should last. I went to Visage because they had the frames I wanted. I had a decent eye exam there, picked out my frames, and was told it would be 2 weeks to make the lenses. It was a pretty typical experience. I came in on a Saturday to pickup, and man, something was WRONG with one of my lenses. Really off. I have a very light distance correction, progressive, prism. Nothing terribly complicated. I was told that "no one" was there to examine the lenses on the weekend, so I had to leave them there and I would be getting a call on Monday. No one calls Monday. Tuesday morning, still nothing. I called midday Tuesday, and yep, the Rx is wrong on one of my lenses. They now have to send the frame back to the lab for a new lens to be ground. They will call me in about a week, I'm told, and I should come in during the week if I want someone to verify they're correct. They close at 6. I really hate when businesses screw up, and really do the bare minimum to make it right. How about-- You have someone at Visage verify that the lab made the lenses correctly, especially now that I've already wasted one trip out there for faulty lenses? How about you staff an optician on Saturdays, so clients can have their problems addressed while they're in the office? How about you address problems with a sense of urgency, and not wait for the patient to call a few days later? And when you can't do any of those things, how about you at least offer a discount for the inconvenience?

When I was there I had a discussion on the topic with the Maps music licensing owner. They are a person who supports music and understands the big picture. Maps now occupies a large space off a parking lot. They have open hours for tea and they host shows and events. The tea bar is knowledgeably staffed and has handmade teacups. Good chill very private meetup spot. They have an able vintage sound system based on Klipsch. The interior is well designed with comfortable seating. I would suggest Maps for tiny meetups, their events as participant to follow, or for booking as an event space. If you are interested in music licensing, they are experts.

Unfortunately, this is becoming too common. When I went to purchase a couple items from DJDepot.com, I was a little alarmed that they had PayPal plastered on their page but when you went to pay the only way you could do it was to present them with your credit card information on the order form. Call me crazy, but I went ahead and ordered from them. I get the news later "we do not have the items." DjDepot.com CONTINUED TO SELL the same items they knew they did not have, that's a Huge Red Flag. Because of all this fishy behavior (is this site even real?) I decided to cancel the credit card I gave them and have a new one issued. Now I don't claim to know much about DjDepot.com but I will say this, this all looks terrible. When you have a site listing PayPal's logo but only directly taking credit card information, delivering no product and continuing to sell the products they don't even have - it looks bad. This wild west behavior is one reason Amazon is cleaning everyone's clocks, so Amazon should thank DjDepot.com. I didn't buy from Amazon, I reordered the products from another tiny retailer although it was a very difficult decision after the experience with these guys.

Very cool ambiance. Spoke with owner who was very genuine. Passionate about his goal with the business and his mission statement rang true with me. I wasn't there to game but wanted to support. The owner was kind enough to sell me a Gahwa branded mouse pad for a good price. Even offered to get me a different one if it had any defects. (It didn't). :) awesome place. Dr. Sarah Curtiss is the best. I think I might be the worst person at taking eye exams because I…read moreoverthink them, and it took four visits for us to figure out what my first contact prescription would be, but I was only charged the contact exam and fitting fee the first time. Plus I got to try a few different sample boxes first so I never felt ripped off like I have at other places. Dr. Curtiss really seems to care about getting it right and making you happy, and she's a very sweet person. We need more doctors like her, who treat you like a human and not a number to get through. The rest of the staff is nice too, I think it might be all women (at least that I've seen) which is pretty rad. I didn't try on or buy glasses here so I can't speak to that part but they do seem to have a nice selection and I like the warm wood ambiance instead of the stark white clinic feeling get at some other places. Only advice I'd give is to not arrive too early and don't bring a friend. There's only two small chairs to wait in by the door and it doesn't really feel set up to be a waiting area. But that's a small thing. Two other pros for me: they accept Care Credit, and they follow up with text messages that you can actually respond to. Like many of my generation I can't always get myself to call them, but they were easy to talk to via text as a follow-up.
