this review is in 2 parts. 1. the carpenters and roofers were fabulous. Bill,Kyle, John etc were great. Meticulous. This finished project is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. 2. this company is poorly managed. the contract was signed in July 2024. 50% down. the permits were not issued until December and first day of work didn't start until April. The reason for the 3* is he didn't pay his subs. 2 weeks after the roof was finished I had the roofing contractor visit me. That is inexcusable. Would I ask them back? probably not. read more

Residence and contractors beware of JCl home services. I am the owner of Cape Coral Tile Company. The beginning of May, I decided to subcontract two bathrooms for JCl Home Service's. I completed the first bathroom on May 12th and sent JCl an invoice on May 14th. I completed the second bathroom on May 20 and sent an invoice to JCl that day. Both customers are extremely happy with my work. On June 11th I started sending emails asking for payment. Since then all of my emails and texts have been ignored. On June 16th I stopped in the office and talked to the owner Jason Cottrell only to find out that he is not able to pay me. Since then the only communication I have had with the company is from Jason's assistant Alicia, who now keeps telling me that there is a discrepancy with my invoice, but does not tell me what it is. There is still no communication with the owner Jason who is in charge of paying my invoice. Neither Jason or Jennifer Cottrell has made any effort to contact me to try to resolve this issue or make a payment. It has now been 45 days since I've completed the work. I informed Alicia that I would give them until end of day July 1st to contact me or I will be filing a lawsuit against the company. They still have not made any effort to contact me. I will now be filing a lawsuit against the company and a complaint with the Florida department of business and professional regulations. My name is James Farwell, I am the Head of School at Montessori School of Fort Myers since 2013. On August 9, 2024 our school signed a proposal with Jason Cottrell, the owner of JCI Home Services LLC for $49,708.84 to do some renovations work on our playground. We promptly paid a deposit of $16,569.61 on that same date. Jason was very nice to work with before he received our deposit. We gave Jason a set of sketched drawings and list of the exact hardware that we wanted. On October 10, 2024 we received a first draft set of engineered drawings. On October 15, 2024, we requested minor changes that should have taken the structural engineer less than 10 minutes to make. We requested an update on November 4, 2024, November 22, 2024, and December 5, 2024 with "we are working on it" type responses. On December 5, 2024 I notified Jason Cottrell that we were unhappy and that we needed to discuss ending our relationship and choosing another contractor. I called and texted Jason Cottrell several times and received no reply. On December 18, 2024 at 4:57pm, I emailed Jason to say that we were terminating our agreement with him per our contract which says we have the right to. It was over 4 months at that point without even having received a set of finished engineered drawings - let alone the future time needed for permits and completing the work. I called and texted more with no response from Jason. I spoke with his office staff who said that he was out of the country for approximately one month and would not be able to contact me. A month with no mobile phone? This is an unacceptable and unprofessional response. On January 8, 2025 I clarified that we were moving forward with another contractor. On January 21, 2025 I emailed Jason to notify him that he had until January 22, 2025 at 5:00pm EDT to call me to discuss a peaceful ending. On January 22, 2025 at 4:55pm (5 minutes before my deadline to file the lawsuit against him), Jason Cottrell called me to apologize for handling the whole project poorly. He agreed to give us a full refund and I agreed to give him one week for us to receive payment. On January 29, 2025 Jason Cottrell passed that deadline and we are now pursuing litigation with JCI Home Service LLC. To date, we have been accused of doing nothing wrong nor otherwise causing difficulty on this project. I has been now been over 5 months that Jason has held our money. Per the contract, we have Jason caught red handed and we will also be seeking reasonable attorney fees, costs and expenses in addition to other relief. That said, we are a small family-owned Montessori school with no desire to engage in a dispute like this but this is one of those times in life where you are forced to fight. The time and money to fight that will hurt our school - staff, students, and their families. If this is how Jason treats a calm reasonable client with modest needs, I can't imagine how he treats others. If you are considering working with Jason or JCI Homer Services LLC ask him about this review and if any part of it is false - you will find that it is not. Caveat emptor. Update 2/18/2025: After I filed several reviews like this one, and filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for Jason's contractor license and the Office of the Attorney general for the State of Florida, and had my attorney begin drafting the lawsuit, Jason finally called me. He mumbled excuses and said he needed more time to refund my deposit since he didn't have the money, mentioning that he would have to "hawk" some things to raise the money to pay me back. I told him that I refuse to believe that a business owner of his age and assets does not have $16,569.61 to pay me back, and that the only thing that mattered was giving my money back, that I would pursue my options to get my money back, and I ended the conversation. He finally decided he did have the money and gave me a check later that day. While I have lost lot of time and endured a lot of stress from this ordeal, I did get my money back but I still don't feel the situation was settled fairly since I will receive no compensation for the trouble caused to me and our school. read more

We hired JCI Home Services in Cape Coral on 4/17/2025 to remodel our 2 bathrooms in our home. So far, we have paid them 22K out of a 33K total job cost. They started the smaller bathroom first. We are now 11 weeks into the project and the work they have completed consists of the shower base, tile on the shower walls and tile on the floor with 1 coat of paint on the walls. No vanity or sink, no door for the shower and the walls need a second coat of paint. Repeated calls to JCI but the owner, Jason Cottrell will not return calls or speak to us at all. Per their email last week they want to drop off any remaining materials they have for our job, in our garage and dissolve the contract. Kicker is they will be giving me an invoice for any additional money I need to pay them before they will give us anything. Refusing to finish the job. Thank God, they did not even start our Master Bathroom yet. This company is deceitful, fraudulent and dishonest and should no longer be in business. read more

We hired JCI in May of 2024. They came out about 3 weeks later to do demo work. They did this before even obtaining a permit to rebuild. While they fumbled through the permit process rainy season started and our roof started majorly leaking causing damage to our drywall and insulation. They tarped my 4 year old roof by nailing through the shingles and also damaged the area around the area they put the addition. A month and a half later they finally got a permit after I contacted the county to straighten things out. Now 8 months after signing the contract the addition is almost complete except for a final electrical inspection and final inspection and repairs. The gutter they installed leaks and they didn't use the same gutter guard as what they attached to. Their solution to fixing where they nailed through my shingles was to tar over the nails they left in. They haven't fixed the damage done from the leaks. Now today I received a notification that they put a lien on my property. This is all before they've gotten final inspections or even requested final payment. I was also notified by the roofer they hired that they weren't paid and they wanted to put a lien on my property also. None of the damage to my roof was caused by the roofer so I'm not sure why they aren't being paid. Fortunately for me the roofer waited too long and can't put a lien on my property. read more
