Would give NO stars if I could. The cashier told me that my debit card was not approved for a purchase of $48.76, so she told me to try it for credit, then debit again, then credit, then debit AGAIN. Just for the transaction to "not go through". However, my card was charged $48.76 four times! And when I call the store to speak with a manager- they can't find the transaction- even though I provided them with time stamps, the exact amount, the item- no. The manager said that she'll make notations for the supervisor on shift for tomorrow. Mind you- I'm a single mom with my account in the negative of almost $200 and I don't get paid for another week. The yelp states that the store closes at 10:00pm today and Liz, the manager I spoke with, told me that they were closed and could not help me at 8:00pm. HORRIBLE customer service. I bought it from them, and I had my receipt; she didn't bother looking at the receipt. I did tell her manager about her nasty attitude. My second time at the jewelry department, they had a few women standing around doing nothing. My husband asked one of them if she could ring us up, and the lady said no go to the beauty department. Even though this lady wasn't busy and could have helped us. We walked over to the beauty department, and they only had one lady working there. If i could give this Location a zero stars i would of. I normally brush off really bad customer service because ive been there and worked in retail and know people have off days. But the lady at the checkout was not having a bad day she was just bad! First off my wife stands in what she thought was the line behind the customers that are being helped, also there is no one else standing around. She's helping these customers apply for a JcPennys card which was taking a while. She i guess finally realizes my wife is standing there and tells her thats not a line and to stand off to the side where i guess they designated the line for waiting checkouts. Someone else happens to stand over there and she tells my wife to stand behind him after she been waiting for at least 10mins patiently. I am a loyal visitor from Los Angeles, CA. On 9/13/19, coming into the store some of their staff were nice and greeted us with respect. Up to the point when we needed to checkout. At checkout, two of their cashiers were on duty and were very talkative and took longer than needed to finish a transaction. A second female came into the cashier section, (blonde, long hair) on the main floor, she assisted us. She formally asked if we had an account, we agreed and she kept insisting on opening a credit line. My parent kindly rejected since he already has an active account. The cashier kept insisting, 2 more times to the point where she harassed my second parent asking, "Do you want to open a credit account? Do you have a social?". Her remark was uncalled for, awkward, and out of place. If we wanted a credit line we would've agreed the first time she asked. If a customer says no, please respect that choice, don't harass. I love JC Penney and they have some amazing deals, however, I ordered a mattress from them and paid an additional $25.00 to have the mattress removed. However, when the moving company call me to make arrangements for the delivery; I was told that they will not be taking the old mattress and box spring. I was also told that JC Penney is aware of this yet they keep giving the option to have the old items removed for a charge. When I called JC Penney's furniture department to complain and get a refund , I was told that the moving company has an option if they will move the old mattress or not. I was told by JC Penney that this was due to Covid. My concern is the integrity. (1st.) if this is truly the case then they should state that due to COVID (which has been going on for 3 years now) we will not offer the option of having the old furniture removed. (2nd.) they should not be charging people for furniture removal. Now, two days before my delivery I have to move the furniture and find another way to have the old mattress and box spring hauled away when I thought it was already taken care of. Those that I spoke to on the phone today had great customer skills and did all they could to help me, however, the bottom lines is that JC Penney need to fix this error. read more

I wore the glasses for 2 weeks but as distance was still a little blurry - went back and was told I had to see an opthamologist for cataracts!! JC Penny Portrait Studio is absolutely abysmal. I have never had "professional" photos taken before and if this is what it's like, I'm glad I never did. The only reason we went was because my mother in law gave us a $50 coupon to take nice pics of my son. We set an appointment for 10AM. Funny thing is, thats when the store opens. So right off the bat you lose time getting to the studio. We also had to wait for them to finish opening up which wasted more time. You're then greeted by 3 different people who all ask you the same questions. We warned them ahead of time they'd be dealing with a 2 month old...They were NOT prepared. With things off to a rocky start we then learn we're getting our pictures taken by a trainee. You send a trainee to work with a 2 month old...brilliant. She really didnt know any cute poses as my wife and I just looked at each other like..."Maybe it'll look better in the pictures?" Trainees should work with adults only till they get the hang of things. They also did not assign a helper to the trainee. When dealing with a baby I would think you would have 1 person ready to snap the picture and another posing the baby and setting up. No, that's not the case. The girl would pose the baby, then have to go grab the camera and get situated and needless to say babies dont hold poses for more than the blink of an eye. They also snapped one photo at a time. I dont know too many professionals but from everything I've seen you snap a bunch of pictures and then keep the best one. Eventually another girl started trying to help when the baby had started to have enough. Did they have any noise making toys or anything to help grab a child's attention? Of course not. I guess that's up to the parents to supply those things. We also wanted Halloween pictures. So they set up this plastic cauldron and put some blankets and such in it and at one point the cheap plastic cauldron tipped forward and almost sent my son face-planting into the floor and this was with the "experienced" photographer setting up the pose. My guess is she finished her "training" the previous day. The whole time I just couldn't wait for the whole experience to be over. I didnt even want to pay for anything. So in an hour they snapped a whopping 29 pictures and we're not exactly talking about Ansel Adams waiting for the perfect lighting...bla bla bla kind of pictures. The photographer wasnt even fast enough to catch a smile. So then you wait a while for them to go through the pictures. Then they show you some cute little things they can do with them on the computer. Then they pull out the price book which is where I had to laugh hysterically. Their prices are insane for what amounts to an average DSLR camera taking a handful of random photos any normal person could take if they ordered some props from Amazon and they're talking packages that cost several hundred dollars without you getting much of anything. So we ended up just getting the digital album which was $173 for 29 photos...But they turned 3 of them black and white so I guess you have to pay for "editing" even though I could have done that in MS Paint or something on my own. As if all of this wasnt bad enough, the person who seemed to be in charge, began attempting to ring us out. She didnt even know how to work her own cash register. No wonder nobody seemed to have a clue what they were doing in this place from start to finish. In the end, for the $500 package they try to push on people, sorry, the $500 value that you only pay $250 for...I could take that money and buy the same exact camera they use and score the same Walmart/Dollar Store props they use and take the exact same pictures in my own home. My wife then calls their corporate number to complain about the place and all corporate wanted to do was transfer her to the photo studio to complain to them. 24 hours later our pictures were emailed to us and they look like any ol' pictures I've ever seen. For "professional" photos the poses are not that cute and I just dont see a dime's worth of what I paid. I could have done this with my cell phone and $15 worth of Halloween decorations. This is why JC Penny is a joke and going under. This is a reflection of the entire store and their entire organization. I look forward to the day JC Penny closes its doors for good. read more

I have been going to JCPenney for Holiday portraits for FIVE YEARS and this is the first time, at Meadows Mall they have told me we can only have ONE holiday background. Ridiculous! Our appointment was at 3:40pm and at this time I am drafting this review we are waiting in the lobby still - it is 4:22pm. We just got out of the studio. The session was quick and I felt she rushed our sitting since we were an hr behind and other appointments were waiting. I like the coupons for the photos at jcpenney portrait studios but I wont be returning to this particular location. Also sitting fee's werent free this month so for the three of us it would cost about $30 - that is about the same price as their portrait membership program which gives free portrait sittings for TWO YEARS. The woman who rang me up did not mention the portrait sitting fee's OR the portrait membership. VERY dissatisfied with customer service at this particular location. read more

JC Penney Portrait Studio - I found a Groupon which waived sitting fees, offered a CD, and three 8x10s for a reasonable price. I made an appointment online which was very simple and accommodating for a busy mom of four. Initially, I was concerned with the lack of organization shown with three staff photographers on site. I was checked in by one. Then addressed by the second, to check me in a second time, and finally taken to a room for photographs by a third which was a bit exasperating, as she asked the same questions that the the first two had asked. The poses were not to my liking and I ended up directing most of the session as I had to have new pics for the house as well as pics for gifts over the holiday season for the grands. I was very pleased with the final product (pics) but felt rushed throughout choosing the album and it was not explained as well as should have been regarding access to an online album for the next 90 days. Ultimately, it was a good value but the process could have been streamlined a bit better if they had an adequate number of personnel on site. read more

The other day, I read a thing in the Business section of the paper that was talking about JCPs new "Everyday low prices" and no-coupon pricing model. I thought it was interesting and thought about it never again. Then I went to the mall looking for a shirt for an event, and I strolled in, and there it was: "Low Prices, No Coupons." I looked at the prices and, believe me, prices were pretty damn good. I mean, you're not getting Brooks Brothers stuff for cheap, but still. Prices were along the lines of H&M, though maybe slightly more dated. In any case, the store was clean, service was ok, prices were good... I was impressed! This is my go to department store since my beloved Mervyn's went out of business. Since the plus size area of the store has a small selection, I sometimes find myself purchasing things on line and having them sent to this store. The site to store has certainly been a hit and miss. I've been given the run around about items before. I'll get my email saying my items are ready but when I go to pick them up, they can't find them. As for the rest of the store, it's only OK. It's one of the smallest Pennys I've ever been to with only two floors. There is another Pennys store just for home goods near Alta but I'm used to having everything in one location. Most of the prices are fair, but when they have a sale they really go all out, if you can get it. Yesterday, when I looked at the sales ad on line and found they had a ten dollar off deal for every twenty five you spend, I was hooked. I had to go. However, when I actually got to the register and asked about the deal the gal told me there were not doing that. I was upset, I didn't think that I had read it wrong but I was like "OK, whatever." One of my items didn't have a tag on it, so the associate called down to have someone find the item. After having to wait in line, wait for them to fix a paper jam, wait for the item look up, they get back on the phone and say they can't find it. The gal just looked at me with a blank stare, like I should just forget about the shirt since it didn't have a tag. I told the girl to just forget it, grabbed my stuff and hauled it back downstairs to find another shirt with a tag. Since I was already downstairs I went to a register there and asked the gal there about the ten dollars off. She again said they were not doing it. By this time I'm really frustrated, so I ask when are they doing it. She hems and haws for a minute and they said "I think Thursday, maybe Friday?" At the end of the transaction she gives me the ten dollars off anyway. The stuff is decent, and the sales are good, but maybe I'm too picky to also want a little bit of customer service too. Why can't the people who work there know about what is going on in their own store? I just had to know if I was wrong or not so I looked up the ad again today to make sure I had read it right. The deal was for all week not just Thursday or maybe Friday. It makes me angry, and it should make the people who make the ads angry too. I'm from L.A. and I recently visited to get my niece some clothes from the girls' dept. on Sunday Feb 12th. I must say I've never had a more attentive person than Malik (sp?) he checked in on me once and checked in on my sister 3X. Talk about customer service! :) Then after standing in line for 5 minutes he did say he'd be right with me, then apologized for the wait. As I was walking away, I heard him apologize to the next customer as well. Not to mention the Prices are GREAT for little girls, average about $12/pair for size 14 girls. Came in for a portrait. We booked online, but did not sync with the actual schedule of the photographer. Recommended to call for the actual appointment. We had to wait some, and you would think that the people going to JC Penny's were royalty and should have what they wanted immediately! Douche bags!! There was only one person working and she was going full speed, yet she was dealing with rude people the entire time we were there. The pictures that were taken were real good and we were pleased. She just seems overworked and underpaid for what she does. She does get the job done and we are happy with our photos. If you need some pics done, come here and be patient. This is my go to store for clothes. I normally purchase online and don't have to return much. I don't normally purchase in-store as well but when I do, the store is always need and in order. I can always find what I'm looking for. The online returns process is easy. I needed to return medical scrubs I purchased that were too small. The transaction was easy and quick. Same lady, always friendly, always quick, and proficient. Always apologizing if there's any type of wait. Only thing I would change is to offer more online stuff in store. Like, scrubs. So I don't always have to order online... PAY SHIPPING... And realize they don't fit right, and have to order again and pay another shipping fee. read more

When we came to JCP Kathy not only made us feel welcome and helped us find what we needed, but we got a great deal with her knowledge about the sales and the JCP card. She also helped us get measured and find the right sizes in shirts, jackets, and pants, as well as helped us find what kinds of things go with what--something else we didn't find in other stores. Her customer service was outstanding--I appreciated that she didn't pawn us off onto someone else, or tell us she had other things to do; she never got flustered or annoyed with our questions. This was our first suit, but we were so happy with her and the product and the savings we ended up getting TWO suits, two shirts, and two ties to go with! I haven't been to JCPenney in a while however this visit made me realize why! Whatever change they recently made they need to undo immediately. There are carousels in the middle of each walk way, walking through is impossible the carousels are filled with little tchotchkes, little hair bows and accessories ... just random nothings. It's impossible to walk through the store, people were sitting on displays with baskets in the walkways. The store seemed hot and cluttered! It wasn't a pleasant shopping experience at all. There was a line for the waiting room, they had chairs lined against the wall, it was just all over an unpleasant shopping trip. Each register had VERY LONG LINES! I purchased 2 little girls dresses and two pairs of kids shoes while in the shoe department and the walkway along the shoe department was completely blocked! Mary the customer service rep was so rude to me while I tried to exchange my Christmas gift because my boots were to small & my grandmother accidentally brought me a children's sweater that was in the mommy and me side. For starters a white male who was in front of me and was serviced by Mary. He came in the store with a box full of items he said his mother purchased for him and sent to his home he asked that his items be returned for a gift card. 1st Mary said no it will go back on the card that was used to make the online purchase. He asked again and she said yes but had to get a supervisor to over ride it. Which held up the line 20 minutes. I went to the counter and explained to Mary that I would like to have a store credit or a gift because the boots are to small and they do not have any in stock. The same with the sweater. She told me she can't do anything without a receipt or the card that was used to make the purchase. I told her that it was a Christmas gift and I do not have the card or receipt, but I'm sure she can look up my grandma's JC penny's acct and see that she used her JC penny's card to make the purchase. She said no she can not do anything for me without the receipt or card. I told her I read on the jc penny's website that I am able to exchange or receive a gift card for returns without a receipt. By that point I felt racially discriminated against being that the man she just helped before me was able to return a box full of items for a gift card and he did not have the card his mom used to order his stuff online or no receipt. I ordered a California king bed online and when it was delivered they only brought me HALF OF THE FOUNDATION! I called them the same day to let them know the issue and have been calling twice a week for a month! They just keep running me in circles with no progress being made. I told them I want the other half of my foundation or my money back and they tried to say that I already received the foundation!!!!! Even tho I called them the day my order came in wrong! So my first bad review- stood in line 45 minutes on a Monday, cashier never called for more help. 2 customers in front of me was a 17 year old kid cashier kept pushing him to apply for a credit card and he kept saying he was too young. Then when it was the person in front of me turn she got them to apply for a credit card and still never called for help. The associate told me it would be done in 2 weeks. 3 weeks later I called multiple times about the ring and asked if someone can call the place where its being resized to make sure it wasn't lost. No one from the fine jewlery department ever tried. After multiple attempts to locate the ring I decided to call corporate and they were no help at all. I then get a call from store manager Gale. She was very rude and did not let me get a word in our conversation, well her conversation. She assured me that the ring was in transit and it would be at the store within a couple days. I ordered an item for same day pick up, drove down there to pick it up, and surprise.. my item was not there! They said it wouldn't be available until Monday. This place is ok, the workers look like theyre half asleep, but this place is pretty ok. Sooo I venture to JCpennay a few times per month. I really dont know why I go because they dont have anything I fall in love with, or anything that is only sold there. What Ive gone for lately is the childrens 25$ frame deal. The optical center is hidden next to the salon and the portrait studio, which is also hidden. Its also itty bitty and not much of a frame selection, but wth! So we went in and of course it was dead, a little lady helped us and luckily I called in and asked about the deal itself. The way its on tv you would think its a full eye glass set with a script, but all it was for the 25$ were the frames and lenses. No biggie, thats why I called! I took Santiago script and chose some frames. Now I sat and it was super easy, all she basically did was write down his script and the frame number. I then opted for a little professional looking pair. The total was 67$ and they came in 2 weeks later. I super loved them as did Santiago! So back to the store, this store has ok deals, not as good as Grand Canyon dr, and def more messy... probs due to their sleepy workers. Plus a lot of the selection isnt the same. It's been three weeks now and no one seems to know what is going on. You call the store, they direct you to an 800# because they claim they have no control over their shipping dept(understood), you call the 800# you are told your items have been delivered at the store and they are probably not yet scanned then you are sent back to the store. You walk in to the store and speak to rude staff with zero compassion for the inconvenience they are putting you through. All I got was well if you can't understand we have no idea when your merchandise will be here, you either wait or get a refund. Seemed pretty fair to me so I asked for a refund(big problem). Here's what I got next: well we can't give you a refund because we do not have any items to refund back into our system. So they basically can take your money, but they can't give it back??? WTF! We have to call the 800#. Ok so I sat there for 30minutes with the store and other dept arguing back in forth to see who was responsible for giving me a refund(very unprofessional!). So the rude lady at the counter assured me they'd process the refund within three days. It's been a week now and nothing. I called 800# again to inquire about my refund and they can't give me proof of the refund because they claim they do not have access to e-mails/texts, really it's 2019 and you can't snap proof of refund and send it to me. Omg! Never again. Please save yourself the hassle and take your business elsewhere. Store is always cluttered with fixtures that hold nothing, very hard to walk through and staff always seems annoyed to see you when you walk through the door. (A smile would be nice).
