The work was quoted as a single person job - Jesse himself. He started the job two days late, claiming our check as deposit did not clear for an entire week. The work to be completed was painting of trim in the entire house (floor, ceiling, windows, etc.), stair railings, French doors, and the walls of two bedrooms. Two days were scheduled to be flooring installation, and during these periods he agreed to work a later shift - Which he did, but did not work an entire shift these days. The day before the deadline he worked a half day, even though more than half the house was unfinished. The day the deadline was set I asked him to set priory to specific rooms and areas so we could still start moving in. He agreed to a plan and failed to execute and follow through. Moving day while I was loading a U-Haul I received a call from him notifying me that he was leaving the house unfinished and would not be returning. He left all hardware for doors scattered around, doors in random rooms, blinds on the floors, etc. He also got paint all over tile in a bathroom, mirror, kitchen sink, in multiple spots on the brand-new laminate flooring, and tore existing paint where he removed tape. Regardless of everything that went wrong I think the work that he did complete was good. His main issue was open and honest communication. I understand fully that deadlines cannot be met, but it isn't my responsibility to bring that up and attempt to formulate a plan to solve the issue - He should be letting me know of progress and issues. Instead he gave excuses of not being able to hire enough people to assist, or that who he did hire was not good and had to be fired. He gave the excuse of traffic being bad on the day that he worked a half day before the deadline - I guess that meant he couldn't get back. He was unable to complete our work because he had another job to start two days after walking out on ours and he needed to prepare. He never offered to attempt to finish the work on late nights or weekends, instead just told us sorry. I wanted to help a new small business and that's why we chose to go with him. Please be careful.
