The sales person seemed very knowledgeable but steered us in the completely wrong direction and we wasted $286 because my husband did not save the receipt. I needed some shoes and this place was recommended by a different store that didn't have the selection I was looking for. Luckily, for me, I didn't have to shop any more after this because JD High Country Outfitters had a large selection of women's shoes and I found two pairs I actually liked a lot. I thought the pricing was fair for the area and the high end nature of the shoes. I bought a pair of Sorrel waterproof sneakers for $120. They were marked up about $35 more than Sorrel's website which is about normal for retailers like this. The only real problem I had was with the service here. I tried my best to not get mad but I was fuming by the end of this experience. I'll try to give them some grace and say that maybe I wasn't forward enough in pushing other people out of the way to get them to bring me shoes from downstairs but a place with great customer service wouldn't need that. I also can say well, they were young men, who didn't seem to care about their jobs but again, why work here if you don't want to help people. read more

Well, what can I say more about JD High Country Outfitters!!! I was walking around Jackson, trying not to buy anything which I did a great job of and not even eating in the restaurants. I really saved a lot of money keeping it simple because I only came here to camp,fish and hike anyway. But when I saw JD high country outfitters, I had to walk in because I love stores that cater to the hiking, fishing, camping outdoors supplies. As soon as I walked in the young man behind the counter was very smart. He said hey we're having a half off sale on socks. And I was looking for sox specifically. I passed so many stores in Jackson that had little cheap souvenir socks all charging around the same price $12-$14 and the really good socks were more but not that special and all the same . When I walked in here, they had the wonderful brand that I bought before which is a good hiking brand, thick well-made socks made in the USA thank goodness and they were HALF PRICE!!! I proceeded to buy eight pairs of socks. It was totally worth it. I couldn't believe I was so lucky to find them. I will be stocked up forever with good quality socks. In the winter, I wear pure wool socks that I knit myself but the rest of the year and for hiking, I use good well-made quality hiking socks, which they had. I also want to mention that the store was stocked. It was in excellent condition and they had high end items, beautiful items that I buy here and there as I can afford them, but so worth it. Upstairs, they had a whole gun store with ammunition, binoculars, knives and fishing rods, and all sorts of fishing and hunting supply. Downstairs they had your typical camp and hike items. They even had a rack of Patagonia jackets on sale which I could not believe. I just knew I could not buy more stuff right now. And I had two jackets But they had $200 Patagonia jackets marked off 30% to 70%. I also want to give out a shout to the really nice lady that was working in the shoe department who had I believe short strawberry blonde hair she was so nice and she helped me with the socks while she was helping people with shoes and sandals. She is a benefit to have you always want great employees like that and I want to just say that her and the guy behind the counter in the front were really great. I think the guy behind the counter in the front was brunette and very helpful. Lastly, I love the large paper bag that they gave me with their insignia on it. It's so well-made. I am now using it to store my early winter kitling next to my fireplace here in Oregon. Thanks for being such a great store. I really enjoyed my visit there. read more

Sole intention of stopping by this store was just to buy a backpacking propane for camping & a possibly a bear spray... uhhh, my friend and I walked out with so much more. This store was heaven for us. The selection of Patagonia merchandise and the variety of Buff headware... amazing. LOL. The ground level has your clothing / shoes / everything fishing. Second floor had all the hunting / camping / backpacking gear. They had a whole clearance section in the back and winter stuff were all a bargain. We spent about a good hour just in this store alone. The workers are so friendly, they even shared stories with us about their Grand Teton and Yellowstone adventures. They were so helpful and also gave us some great tips with the limited amount of time we had for both national parks. One of my favorite small town outdoor stores! So now we can pretty much say that Jackson Hole left a black hole in our wallets the 3 hours we were in town. LOL. So bad but so good. read more

Some of the rudest customer service I've ever experienced. My brother's family and mine spent hundreds of dollars over two days and the woman snapped at us today, impatient, snapped at me. It wasn't done there. She then scowled at us to the point that my husband, who never says anything, mentioned it to her. She was low key rude yesterday. But today, holy shit. Appalling. If my daughter didn't love what we bought, I wouldn't spend a dime in this place. AVOID. it's also overpriced, but that's to be expected in a tourist area like this. Clearly a miserable woman working there. She should get a different job. Yes, we were a big group and my brother asked my a question right in the middle of the transaction, but if you can't handle customers, get the hell out of customer service. Your job is to have a shred of patience with those throwing money at you. read more

With the exception of two people (David, and Jason) the entire staff in the hunting department is about as helpful as a rubber ducky on the Titanic. No matter how many times I call they are always busy. After calling I walk in, and they weren't busy at all. One guy was on the computer looking at parts and pieces, while Ryan (think the supervisor for the hunting department) was working on a crossword puzzle in the camping department. When we asked Julio about a particular product in the "high end gun room" he said they didn't have it. A few days later when talking to David he allowed us in the gun room and they actually had the gun! Julio nearly cost you a sale. Ryan is just about as helpful. Lucky for them there is no place else to go in the valley and they have David and Jason to keep customers coming back! read more

The only reason this place is getting any stars is because of Karen in the upstairs section, and her customer service. She was the only employee to greet us and help us find what we were looking for. Went to JD high country today to buy some flys and get some information. After waiting around aimlessly for 20 so minutes a very young boy asked what he could help me with. Turns out nothing as he didn't know anything about fishing at all. He very obviously was acting like he was a big fisherman but had maybe been out once with a guide. I can't say enough great things about this store!!! We went in to rent cross country skis (mountain was closed due to Coronavirus) and they helped us out so much!! They spent time not only helping us get fitted correctly with everything, but spent time showing us where to go and where to look for wildlife. Well I cannot speak about the entire store as I spent my time in the fly shop in the back. The staff there was extremely helpful and knowledgable about the river and area. They wanted to put you into fish and if you wanted to book a trip that was fine as well. I would go back here no problem. There are other shops in town that were a TON less helpful than the folks working here. read more

Great Shop in the heart of the Square in Jackson :) They have all the outdoor equipment you could as for! always friendly great people working there. I always stop in when I am in town to see what nice outdoor gear they have. They are dog friendly, as well! check them out! This store went beyond the normal customer service. They were great!!! I loved the sweater that my husband purchased on a trip, but, it was not the right size. The customer service tried to locate the correct size at the factory and even called me back with the information. Jack Dennis Sports, Inc. at 50 East Broadway was acquired by non-local owners last year. It is now JD High Country Outfitters. The second floor is not wheelchair accessible, and the gallery of local artists is gone, replaced by a relatively empty gun room. The employees used to be extremely knowledgable yet the new management does not seem to place the same value on customer service. The clothes merchandise is just basic and I felt overpriced. So disappointed to see the old store and its charm gone! read more
