Guardian Montville Adolescent Center truly changed my life in ways I can't fully put into words…read more From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported by an incredibly warm and genuine community. While no place is perfect, the dedication and care from the entire staff here set Guardian apart. Nurses, doctors, behavioral techs, clinical staff, kitchen staff, and even the higher level administrators, everyone here genuinely wants to see you succeed and will help you every step of the way IF you're willing to put in the effort. Acceptance was not an easy feat but they guided me in the right direction. I will never forget the staff here, NEVER. Oh and the food is fire, this isn't some rehab or institutional facility food. It's all healthy, good for you, and tastes good, like the program itself. Words can't capture the depth of my gratitude; an infinite amount wouldn't be enough. Thank you, Guardian, for not giving up on a lost cause and for helping me find a new path. If you're looking for a place with a supportive, compassionate community that truly believes in your potential, this is it. I truly believed I was a lost cause and Guardian has given me memories, friends, coping skills, insight, knowledge, and wisdom that will last a lifetime. I will never forget my time at Guardian. I didn't even know this level of emotional regulation and coping skills was possible. This place turned a complete lost cost into something so great I can't even explain. It works if you work it and you're worth it. This is place, every client I've talked too (which is a total of 23) has said something along the lines of "this is the best facility I could've gone to" or "this is the best facility I've too" The reviews here aren't lying, this is SO IT. I'm the longest stay ever at Montville Adolescent center being 49 days, which is beyond the minimum program stay (usually) and it was so bittersweet leaving. If I can have this good of a time sober in a rehab, then the world is my oyster. I know most kids don't want to end up here. All I'm saying is that to the parents consider: you don't know me, but personally if a person like ME, in the position I was in can feel this, there's hope. I was a lost soul on a death march looking for connection and peace of mind and I found out I was looking for sobriety. Drugs weren't my problem, drugs were my solution. I worked HARD on my problems and found better solutions. For people who constantly numb all negative emotions this is a Herculean task, but the environment I was in let me open up and experience all of that pain. Like I said It works if you work it and you're worth it. I'm starting New Pathways which is the Partial Program that's under the Guardian umbrella. I'll cut it here since I'll write a memoir rivaling the length of War and Peace about Guardian. Thank you Guardian, thank you MAC. You can't even imagine how grateful I am. -Izzy Izix "Isaac" Jakob Klein

After being dropped off in my bed by the…read moreambulance crew ,no one came in my room for over 2hours to say hello to admit me or to ask who I was. My husband was there and wondered was I in the right facility. I heard aids and nurses talking and laughing, but no one came to my room to admit me . When they finally came it wasnt without them first lying to me about my nurses name. I later found out my medication was not at the facility and had to be ordered. This was my BP medication . So when they took my vitals it was increasingly high, putting my health at risk. When I'd call for a nurse , it could be at least an hour before anyone would come in to see what I needed ;on my good days I'd walk to the nurses station in pain to request my pain medicine myself since Noone was coming to see what I wanted. I wanted to leave this facility but my doctor worked out of here and I needed antibiotics 3xs a day by I .V. and 2 times by mouth. So, I suffered through. Because leaving meant starting all over when I had 6-8 weeks of treatment to go. The overnight crew was horrible. When I'd press the button no one answered . But, they'd forget I could walk and walk very softly . I'd find my nurse watching T.V. in the lounge area and the aid fast asleep. When caught and frightened by my sudden appearance they'd get an attitude when I asked for my pain meds . They'd retaliate by bringing my pain meds a half hour to an hour later. I hated when it was time for the overnight staff to take care of me. The last week I met Nurse Brian who really put a sour taste in my mouth for Care One. I had never met him before until 4am when I walked upon him to ask for pain meds because my light had been on for over 40 mins. The aid was sleep in the lounge and I surprised him when I walked up. I asked him for pain meds and it went south from there. To the point I had to write a formal complaint with Maritza nurse supervisor who told me she had given it to the director. So I wont discuss it in detail here. Hopefully its being handled. I took care of myself while in Care One. I bathed myself, I cleaned and bandaged my own wounds and purchased my own bandages and dressings until Lea the administrator found out and purchased some bandages for me. For which I was thankful. But , I still bandaged and took care of my own wound .During the day as weeks went by ,I met some incredible nurses I will never forget. Nurse Shay with her sweet smile and pleasant personality and attention to detail and care , I will always remember her. Nurse Gabby for always checking in to make sure im good. Because I kept my door closed and never asked for anything unless I was in pain. Nurse Shirley, for keeping me sane when I wanted to leave throw in the towel and leave Care One. She is detail oriented and knew what I needed before I even asked. She encourage me to drink the protein even when I refused because it would help me heal. I did it because it meant I could walk out of Care One stronger at least in my mind. Some of the aids I'll never forget during the day are Ms.Whatea, Ms. Diana and Ms Patsy. Even when I was in pain and had a rough night they'd brighten my day with a smile or a laugh. That meant a lot. Care One you've fixed up the esthetics of the place really nice. But, if you dont have the right staff to run the place you could have saved your money. The daytime nurses need help . They are understaffed. I worked in St. Joseph's Hospital Paterson for 10 years in their Cardiology Dept and I watched nurses get burned out. They love their jobs but they can't give adequate care when they are being stretched thin. You can't keep drawing from the same well and expect to draw water. You are going to pull up an empty bucket. Administration arent out their in the trenches doing the work yet they expect the impossible from the same good nurses. Get rid of the dead weight thats pulling Care One down so you can be the facility you are striving to be. Get up early one morning and walk softly through there at 3am and see what Ive seen. Aids sleeping with sweatshirts pulled over their faces in the hall. Or mouths wide open in the halls in plain site or sprawled out in the corner of the lounge . Then run to help when their eyes meet yours staring at them sleeping. While the light has been on for over 45 minutes. I dont need help at that point. Im just letting them know I see them. Nurses watching TV on their phones in the cubbyhole nodding off. Ive seen it all. Because ; I dont sleep due to pain. So I walk around hoping to ease the pain. But, what I see causes me even more pain. What about the poor patients who can't walk or advocate for themselves as I can? Do they just lay in a wet or soiled diaper all night or suffer in pain ?? I shutter to think. But, a 2 star is as far as I can reach for this facility. If it weren't for the nurses and aids I mentioned it would have been 1 star.

ZERO would be too high of a score. Run, don't walk, and get away from this place as fast as you…read morecan. They are seriously understaffed. The aides make patients wait 30-45 minutes for help when they press the call button. Patients are neglected by the aides, and the nursing management staff likes to use the narrative that the patient is confused when they are not. You have to beg for showers, as aides just say "not today" and then tell the nurses the patient refused the shower. This place might look pretty, but the level of neglect is off the charts.
