I changed to this doctor due to promises that my care from my previous doctor would be continued. I've had multiple appointments for the same issue and can't get medication for it. I was told to get all of my medical records from my previous doctor concerning a particular blood count which is deficient without medication. So I provided the paperwork and they said insurance wouldn't accept it. This doctor ordered new blood work which was much worse than my previous diagnosis. Still can't get my prescription. Insurance said this office withdrew their prior authorization (PA) for the medication I was sent to have bloodwork for to prove that I needed the medication. I've had multiple visits, paid multiple copays, insurance has paid them and I still cannot get my medication. Someone is either lying or incompetent. I've never been to a "professional" office that is run so poorly. It's been over 8 months and I still don't have my medication and the staff seems to find my suffering comical. So far the only staff I have been able to speak with is the receptionist who has no interest in helping me. I came yesterday and of course no one was there except her to speak with. I was told the person I needed to see would be back this morning, so I'm back this morning and have been sitting here for over an hour and still no one to speak with although I've seen the staff member who ordered my bloodwork walk by the door. No one here will speak to me although they have been compensated multiple times. What do they call it when a doctor bills insurance but doesn't provide the service but they keep charging you and insurance for visits without following through with the service? If I could give this practice zero stars, I would! My husband and I, on several occasions, waited between 1-2 1/2 hours to be seen by either the doctor or the nurse practitioners at that practice. Rude! Staff looked a me like I was crazy when I got fed up for the last time. Preparing to leave, I asked for my co-pay to be refunded. The staffer behind the desk looked annoyed with me like I was the crazy one. I was polite, explained myself in a calm tone and she only offered that they had to wait for a free room. No apologies or regret for wasting hours of my time. I got my refund and left. Same happened to my husband just a week later. This was the third time he had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to bee seen. He left without saying a word fearing he'd lose his temper. Don't go there unless you have all damn day to waste waiting. read more

Dr. Birkenhauser is great physician, but it is impossible to contact the office! I never seen where you cannot answer the phone at a doctor office when a patient calls, or the lab is trying to reach. they know it is bad if they have to phone the office because it take time for them to call and call and leave a message hoping someone hear it and they can proceed with the Patient! read more

Worst doctors office I've ever encountered. My wife and I started there after we moved to the area hear in Foley. We've called multiple times after hours in the past and still haven't received call backs as of this post. The after hours call was months ago. Then the billing within the office we received a notice on August 4th, it was a collections notice not a statement. We have called and left a message on three occasions, never to receive a call back. We paid them in full back in June as of that statement. read more

Dr. Birkenhauer is amazing, her office is not. Dr Birkenhauer comes across as caring and thorough, after you wait an hour to see her. Her referral department has taken over a month and counting to give me a proper referral to a rheumatologist. After notifying their office multiple times of no referral response, I had to hunt down the doctor they referred me to. A goose chase because that doctor doesn't practice rheumatology anymore. Multiple phone calls to Dr. Birkenhauer's office and this still hasn't been resolved. read more

She is a good doctor, very easy to talk to. I like her PA's, they are very competent. She usually runs on time or a very little wait.

I started seeing Dr. B about 12 years ago. She was referred to us by multiple friends in LA. Immediately I noticed that she was thorough and compassionate. She knows her stuff and can utilize many resources, adequately refers patients when needed, and takes time to ensure all your questions are answered. She genuinely cares about her patients, which has been rare in my experience. I highly recommend Dr B to anyone! read more

I was referred to Dr. Birkenhauer by a friend. I called to make an appointment and they took all my information, then said " We will call you back if she wants you as a patient" Two month later her office called and I made an appointment for 4 months away because that is how far she was booked. The day came when I had my appointment and the waiting room was packed with people standing. The office wanted my $20.00 co-pay which was fine. But 45 min. later I told them I had another appointment and needed to leave. The receptionist said "Really". They claimed that they would put my copay in the mail.......three weeks later no check! My 1st visit She was very nice but the next 2 visits I was seen by each of her NP, I recently moved here from St Louis and I had very good Doctors there. I explained that its important for her to get my past medical records from all my Doctors in St Louis because I want her/them to continue my treatment and follow the diagnostic path of where we was at in St Louis of finding out whats wrong. They seem to not care about the 3 strokes I have previously had nor the severe back and leg and feet pain that I have or my head spinning issues that i've been going thru everyday so I guess I will find a Doctor that cares about patients enough that will transfer my medical records. She is a nice person but "nice" isnt making me feel any better ! read more

Dr. Birkenhauer, Debra (NP) and her staff have always been very thorough and helpful. There was a time when her practice grew too fast (my opinion) and you had to wait, but with the changes that have been implemented the wait times are now the same or less than I would expect in a doctors office.
