A-OK review if you're in the market for some contemporary, hip, neutral colored furniture. We stopped in here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon - in search of a 6-8 person dining table. They had very few dining tables on display, so we looked at couches and recliners instead (not needing either). Furniture prices were high to me, but merchandise was very stylish and on-trend. We looked around for about 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. Perhaps this was the owner himself who ended up greeting us; he asked what we were looking for and that was about it. Didn't give us much direction or anything as far as telling us where to look for dining tables. We were the only customers in the store at this particular time. Store is cluttered, unorganized and dirty in some areas and the customer service left something to be desired. Recommend if you're seeking hipster-esque decor or if you have no budget at all. No frills or over-the-top customer service here, either. read more

I've bought three different pieces of furniture there over the last 8 years. I'm 100% satisfied with my purchases. Jeff Jones' store is much different than the chain stores. They don't have a fancy building, or someone greeting you at the door. It's usually just Jeff Jones, and a few other people moving things around. Jeff is knowledgeable and honest, and the furniture is fairly priced. My wife and I like contemporary furniture, and it was tough to find anything we liked at other stores. Jeff had lots of options in different price points and was able to order something we loved each time. He was very informative and helped us understand more about leather furniture. I'd been to every single furniture store within a 30-mile radius of Iowa City looking for a reasonably-price couch that was stylish and comfortable. Turns out if you want Craigslist prices on couches you'd better be okay with old, discolored, saggy furniture that's been who knows where. And you'd better have a truck or hulk guns to haul it yourself (neither of which I have). I was getting discouraged and resigned to sitting on the floor of my empty house indefinitely when I stumbled upon this place in my furniture hunt. It's not just a consignment store, but also carries new furniture on catalogue--all you have to do is order it. Not sure why reviews are so low on Yelp, but they're respectable on Google and Facebook. I didn't Yelp this place and so I wasn't biased going in. Jeff was so helpful. He showed me around the store and sat on couch after couch with me. He stood with me at the kiosk playing with couch styles and answered incessant questions like "What about that one?" over and over. Let me tell you about the prices on couches in that kiosk! They start high but are $50 or so cheaper the more you scroll. I got a super cute cream colored couch for $399, plus $55 delivery!! The only risk was I didn't know how it felt sitting on it since they didn't have the exact model on the floor. But Jeff showed me some cloth material that he thought was the same as the couch, and I went with it. I'm so pleased I did. The service was amazing and I've fallen asleep on my couch almost every day that I've had it. It's perfect. In all from store to delivery took about 2 weeks, but it was worth it. read more

Horrible Horrible experience. I was forced to give him at least one star or they would get none. I felt like i was dealing with the Mafia in trying to get my furniture delivered. In short - they were over 3 hours late for delivery - did not contact us once to give us status - we had to repeatedly call back. We were lied to a number of times - it was "on its way" and then when I pressed for details - found out they were still at the store at the time we had been told they were in route. Jeff Jones refused to refund the delivery cost ($50) as he said it cost him additional to deliver on Saturday and apparently delivering on Saturday is not normal for them. Let me point out - he NEVER mentioned any of this to me when he agreed to deliver on Saturday. I was told they would be there at 11 am - they did not show up until close to 3 pm. The fact that we were lied to and our entire day was wasted apparently was not taken into consideration or of any concern to Jeff. I did lose my temper with Jeff after finding out that one of the items was defective and he knew it and told them to deliver it anyway. Next thing I know - they delivery guys (who were very nice and I felt bad the situation THEIR employer put them in) were taking all the furniture back out to the delivery truck and refusing to deliver it as I had offended Jeff. They were instructed by Jeff to return it to the store. Keep in mind -this furniture was paid for in full. It belonged to us but was literally locked into the truck and the two delivery guys sat in the cab of the truck and wouldn't deliver. I felt horrible for these guys - they were put in a bad situation and worried about losing their jobs and just following direction. After threatening to call the police and my husband intervening and negotiating with Jeff to get the furniture we PAID FOR delivered - it was finally resolved. It was a scene strait from the Sopranos. The defective item as reordered but not in stock by the time we left for vacation -however no one called to let us know that it had come in while gone and again - we had to follow up 4 separate times (as no one would call us back) to find out if it was in and get it delivered. Horrible Horrible experience - I had bought from him before with no issue but never again. Apparently once he has your money - customer service goes out the window since he has a "no refund" policy. DO NOT SHOP HERE - DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR BUSINESS. All this furniture was for my daughters birthday and it ruined the day and her surprise. read more

I've always had first rate service. We've custom ordered several pieces of furniture over the years from here and have been very pleased with the results. My decorator was the one that got me going to Jeff Jones Furniture. The prices are reasonable and the shipping times are quick. I've also ordered a few mattresses from them. I often hear from our guests what a great sleep they had. The mattresses were way cheaper than any furniture or mattress store prices. I have no problem recommending Jeff Jones Furniture and giving it 5 Stars. read more

We had the best experience with Jeff Jones Furniture. I had picked out furniture and the fabric. The furniture was delivered and the colors I had picked did not flow with the rest of my colors. I was sick and upset with myself. I called and talked to Jeff and without hesitation he said to come into the store and pick out another color and they would reorder and change out the furniture. If I could have given a negative star, I would have! During my search for a couch, my parents decided to purchase one as I still pondered. What a nightmare! Jeff Jones told us to purchase through him instead of online because he would check the furniture for flaws and deal with the manufacturer if issues arose. We drove over an hour to pick up the sectional. Once we unwrapped the plastic we discovered tears in one section and white spots on another section. It was clear he had never examined the sectional before telling us to pick it up. We could have had it delivered for free online if we didn't want it assessed before purchasing. I kid you not when I tell you that it took over 6 months to get a replacement. I had to stop in multiple times to request an update. He couldn't bother to follow up or even attempt to keep us updated. Each time we contacted Jeff Jones, he'd provide excuses and new "arrival" dates for the replacements ... they were never delivered as promised. If we had not stopped in to speak to him in person, I firmly believe we would never had heard from him again. A complete lack of customer service. Ultimately my parents settled with the replacement although it had minor flaws. My parents feared if they complained they would never see the replacement or their money back. I requested a refund for a purchase they were holding and my sister purchased her couch elsewhere. I fear others will endure a similar fate, therefore felt obligated to educate potential buyers. read more

Be careful of items you place on consignment. We purchased 2 leather couches from Jeff Jones and asked that he sell our existing furniture on consignment. However, once we received our furniture we never received another call from Jeff Jones. We have placed several calls to the store over the past 9 months and none have been returned. read more

My sister and i had seen the furniture commercials and happened to find it by mere coincidence, while looking for another store a block away. We were so excited! When we walked in, I have to admit it was cluttered and dirty. We continued to casually and very slowly walked through the store. As we neared the back of the store, we saw a couple men repairing some furniture. No hello, no nod of notice, nada. Okay? As we headed back up, my sister found a chair, which she sat in, the two men at the desk never asked if we needed help, if we were interested in the chair or had any questions. As we were on our way out, I waved, no response, they just kept their heads down. I was totally appalled and upset, but I wasn't going to waste my time since they didn't consider me as a valued customer. I will not be returning or referring this store to ANYONE! Phelans's may be more expensive, but they totally catered to us as potential customers. I've been in sales for over 30 years, with this type of treatment, they will not last long:-( read more
