Not to be confused with a cinema, this multifaceted venue has played host to a number of events and has partnered with many organizations both local and national to feature great acts and some for great causes. My favorite event in the past was a Saints game night, where for $12 one got unlimited beers (Bud Lights only?) and all the hot dogs one could eat, as well as red beans and rice. If that deal is still available, I'll be floored. The parking isn't the most friendly. Street parking is usually that is available and it's more luck than anything else. The Varsity is in good company with a number of other super famous establishments located within the same block. Figuratively, one could chow down at Chimes, play games at Barcade, drink their face off here, and then head to Louie's or Raising Canes for some late night food. This is such a prime location that it's great for a solid casual night out. From concerts to comedy nights, there is literally not a thing that this place can't host. While I do wish for a slightly better men's bathroom, unsightly conditions do happen at places that holds hundreds of people at a time. By day the Baton Rouge Music Exchange is a shop operating in the old office / study areas of the building. The sanctuary has been converted to a standing room only performing arts space. There's easily room for 100+ people to get their groove on. The place has been hardened for sound proofing, the drop ceiling and window covering is apparent they are doing their best not to bother the neighbors, the music going inside could barely be heard outside when I went out to get a breath of fresh air. The sound system was great, the sound was tuned to the room, there was no bounce, no echo, no feedback, the sound guy did a great job! The sound was not overpowering, or muddy and dull. Better than a lousy MP3 or watching a performance on YouTube. This is why everyone should go see bands play. Experience live music because you can. They have events from local and national acts as well as Cajun Dance lessons and other events organized by the local promoters and owners of BRMusic Exchange. The night I was there I saw a band called LVVRS from Lafayette who were opening for Electric 6 who had been to Baton Rouge many times before. I paid $15 at the door which was cheaper than buying it online. Parking was a bit thin, get their early to get a spot and get a few brews or mixed drinks in your system so you can unwind and have some fun. Take a date and do some dancing, there's room enough. MCB is a BYOB establishment. No bar, you bring your own. There were folks who had brought coolers and nestled them along the two walls in the audience area. I guzzled my Makers and Coke whilst watching great music unfold from original acts. Maybe 25 - 40 people were there. The music acts were animated and put on a great show. I went to go listen to new music, when the opening band asked what we wanted to hear, and no one responded, I blurted out that I wanted to hear original music, no covers, so that they did. When Electric 6 played, they were monologuing about how the label wanted them to play more of their new tunes, I yelled something about the label and the millennials looked back in horror. My personal experience was the food was Nothing like was tasted in the food tasting, was cold, took HOURS to get food, people left from starvation, my napkins I paid for and monogrammed not left out with the cake, my friends had to serve cake, the entire bottom tier of my cake was left after everyone ate cake, and I got none of it, my party favors that were to be left on every table and used were in a container at the front door so anyone that would like one I have a bunch. Also people people were told they were not on the rsvp list, after I sent a completed list and verified this on my end to Chef and coordinator multiple times. The grooms dad was told he was not on the list and did not receive his steak dinner that was requested at least four times during this whole planning process because they were told that he did not eat what was being served yet he was forced to receive a plate that he did not eat. Drinks were taken up at 9:30 PM including Water when I had the place rented until midnight and we're not supposed to leave until 1045. People were hot. Ice was not given with any drinks, and when was requested was told there was none. Alcoholic beverages were being sold for four dollars for about 5 ounces of beer and people were told there was no change when Change should have been brought, like for instance, at a garage sale where Change was available, my dad offered to pay full price or actually double at the cost of eight dollars for the entire can of beer and was told that they could not do it so people were forced to go across the parking lot to buy beer and bring it in from the outside. Coordinator was late for my ceremony. My DJ who worked hard on the ceremony and reception did not receive a meal after he RSVPed. This whole experience was extremely embarrassing to me and Brian because we sacrificed for two years and spent every dime we had on this important event in our lives. I was told by him that he did not have several thousand dollars in his back pocket and my response to that was make pmts just like I did and that I'm sorry is not good enough this time and frankly it's not .messaged him today that he had until next week to send me all invoices for vendors so I can see what he paid versus what I gave him and told him he could either bring me my cake knives or mail them to me and I have gotten no response and have been ignored.. The Chef was extremely rude to Brian and I and when I asked her why there was no pasta on the fish plates and why some people did not get starches on their plates and why the food was cold, Her response was goodbye. we paid way too much money for what we received. it upsets me that he would do me this way and take advantage of me. I have talked to other people who have told me if they would have known, he was my coordinator they would have warned me. I just don't want him doing this to other people and getting away with it especially to brides on their wedding day. even if peoples names were not on the list there should have been enough food and it should have been prepared and hot enough to make a plate just like you would do at a restaurant when you order food and it's not cooked yet. People including my special-needs children who don't understand waiting for their meal. Had to wait until after cake cutting and almost 9 o'clock to get their meal and then it was ice cold and they could not eat it . Ultimately, he did not make the food, but he is still in charge of everything if he wants to call himself a producer. he does not deserve that title. The least he could've done after all of this being brought to him on Monday would to be honorable and say I know I screwed up and I'm sorry that you did not get what you paid for so I'm offering to pay you back at least 5k. I fight for what's right and he is wrong in the situation. Him ignoring me has made me more mad He has also blocked me on Facebook! And Brian cannot even locate his profile He still has both sets of my cake knives that were engraved and has ignored me and will not respond to text messages. He is supposed to be moving to Houston soon . the sad part is I've known this man for 31 years and thought I could trust him. My rehearsal dinner was a joke with a pile of cold red beans, and a scoop of gummy rice that you couldn't break apart alongside fried chicken wings, and a piece of fried rice and cornbread! He had a 3K budget for that! Red beans cost nothing and there's no way he spent that much on that meal!
