Upon arrival, we were impressed by the magnificient beauty of this place. It is GORGEOUS! The interior is very classy and elegant, with a beautiful staircase just as you enter. Outside, you are surrounded by exquisitely maintained gardens. It was absolutely stunning. It was an outside wedding, and the set up was nice. Afterward, we were guided to the patio area for the reception. There was a full bar set up to the left as you entered, and a mimosa station to the right of the patio. A nice set up area for the disc jockey. Hor d'oeurves were served to the guests while the guests waited for the arrival of the bride and groom. The hor d'oeurves they were serving were small boudin balls, grilled shrimp in bacon with what tasted like mild bbq sauce on them, and small grilled cheese. All were awesome. After the arrival of the bride and groom, the main food was served. They had this really cool set up that served shrimp and grits in martini glasses. You were able to add a variety of other items to your grits if you wanted. The other food areas served pork loin that could be made into small sandwiches. Another area had fried catfish, stuffed mushrooms, and pasta. The fried fish tasted as good as any restaurant I have ever been to. ALL of the food was restaurant quality, and served hot, not room temperature. I figured out it is owned by John Folse. You can definitely tell by the food quality! AWESOME! The staff were all VERY friendly and cordial. The facility was clean and well kept up. Absolutely gorgeous. I was nosy and asked the bride's mom what the event cost because it seemed to me that it HAD to be very expensive. I was actually stunned at the price she told me because I've been to weddings that cost significantly more, and were no where near as high class, elegant, simply GORGEOUS, and the food as fabulous. If you are looking for a venue for an event or a wedding, this hidden gem is DEFINITELY one to check out! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS (I can't say this enough!)

There are many plantation homes in the South and there are a few that are very dear to me (Houmas House and Oak Alley) but White Oak is numero uno in my books. What sets it apart, for me, is that it is owned by John Folse. He is an incredible chef and I love everything that comes out of his kitchen. FYI: His king cake is the best I have ever eaten. So addictive! White Oak hosts many events here such as weddings, corporate meetings, and parties. They also do off-site catering. Danielle, Chef Pete, and the rest of the staff are top-notch and very professional. Come here if nothing else just to take a tour of this hidden treasure in Baton Rouge. The staff members were professional, helpful & kind in all our dealing. The options were all mine, decorate up or leave as it. Either way the space is so elegant; the options are limitless. You can decorate yourself or have the staff to decorate for you, for an additional fee. We had the food prepared by the on-site catering company used by the facility. This removed all the guess work & allowed us to plan for our upcoming event. And the food was delicious & well worth the price. Ample off street parking was available for guests & security was there to ensure no vehicle break-ins occurred. Considering the event I had here & my frame of mind at the time, The Dream Event Center staff & facility was JUST WHAT I NEEDED. They took the sting out of the largest par of the planning process. The chandliers should be replaced too as they looked old. I like venues that appeal to the eye as much as anything else when going to a party/event. The Lyceum didn't catch my eye. The staff is really nice over there and they have plenty of booze for the events so yeah.

When I saw someone walk by with a bowl of jambalaya, I asked where it was from and if it was spicy. The man told me no and pointed me in the direction of the blue truck. When I got to the window, I asked if the jambalaya was spicy, the man said "no, It is full of spice but not spicy, it is family friendly." I said "I am going to trust you cause I don't do spicy. I'm like the worst Indonesian person ever." We took our boat of jambalaya back to our booth and my husband and I dug in. Three bites in, he says "I'm surprised you're eating this, it's pretty spicy." As I wipe the sweat (possibly tears) from under my eyes, I say "I don't care, it's that good. But I don't know how kids can eat this. Family friendly is a lie!" The End. Would I dine or dash? Located just outside of the LSU campus, it has been a mainstay in the area for decades. While it's mainly concerts that rock this venue, I've attended corporate events, watched LSU Tiger games, and enjoyed a show or two in years past. I've always enjoyed my time here. Not to be confused with a cinema, this multifaceted venue has played host to a number of events and has partnered with many organizations both local and national to feature great acts and some for great causes. My favorite event in the past was a Saints game night, where for $12 one got unlimited beers (Bud Lights only?) and all the hot dogs one could eat, as well as red beans and rice. If that deal is still available, I'll be floored. The parking isn't the most friendly. Street parking is usually that is available and it's more luck than anything else. The Varsity is in good company with a number of other super famous establishments located within the same block. Figuratively, one could chow down at Chimes, play games at Barcade, drink their face off here, and then head to Louie's or Raising Canes for some late night food. This is such a prime location that it's great for a solid casual night out. From concerts to comedy nights, there is literally not a thing that this place can't host. While I do wish for a slightly better men's bathroom, unsightly conditions do happen at places that holds hundreds of people at a time. The parking lot is behind the building and is not big at all. Fortunately we were able to park across at LSU visitors parking lot and walk about 3 minutes down to the venue. The line was wrapped around the building but it moved quickly. I did will call tickets and had no problem with my name being found on the list. There was a bar with about 10 barstools set up but those were taken. I would suggest being first in line to get a seat at one of these. Upstairs had a few tables but once again those were taken. I ended up watching the show against the wall next to the railing and had a good view of everything. I had a Basic Bitch drink which was surprisingly good. Drink was huge and was only $11. I will definitely look for more events at this venue.
