They do have a story time during the week for the kidlets. Parking is difficult, and I have noticed the ticket ladies in front stalking the area for the slightest of parking infractions, and ticketing people. I would suggest that if you can not find parking in the super small parking lot, not to park in front, but on one of the side streets. During tax season, there are volunteers from AARP doing income taxes twice a week through VITA, a volunteer tax preparation service for low income people. They are not employees of the library, the library can not force them to work, or accept any ones tax return to prepare. They get overwhelmed during the tax season, so be nice to them, they are not paid at all. The employees who work for the actual library are nice for the most part. Come and check this library out if you live in the area. You can check out books if you live in the Orleans parish or the neighboring parishes.

Then two of my friends schooled me in the ways of using the @nolalibrary. It's hard to describe the level of joy I get from casually listening to an amazing audio book that I can rent directly on my phone or picking up new releases that are set aside for me. : : Seriously, the libraries in New Orleans are phenomenal - I would argue the best public service in the city! When you walk in, there are plenty of available computers, an amazing selection of book for all ages, DVDs, study guides to get ready for the ACT or GRE, and even classes to learn how to sew and knit. I use the online app to reserve and make sure what I want is availabe (swipe to check it out what it looks like in the app store - you can only get the app once you go in and get a library card). : : Also, I am SO glad that one of my friends recommended that I also download the libby app, which allows me to read books and listen to audio books directly on my phone or iPad. BTW, nerd life hack: you can set you audio book speed to 1.25x, and you'll never go back to regular speed again.

This is a review of the Lafitte Barataria Museum because the listing for the museum lists it as…read moreclosed, and it isn't. Anyway, I stopped in here just to see what this attraction was all about. Entry is $6 for adults and you get to watch a 30 minute film about the history of Lafitte and take a walk through the museum. There's also a nature trail behind the museum that you can check out. The film was great and actually very up to date and educational. I enjoyed it. If you watch the film, you have to wait until the end for the appearance of a special guest. It's worth the $6 admission- trust me. The museum itself is pretty neat and teaches a bit about the lifestyle and people of Barataria. The nature trail is wonderful and, if I hadn't been here on an unseasonably warm October day, I would have walked the full trail, rather than just a portion of it. Still, I enjoyed it and it was a relaxing stroll.

The newest Jefferson Parish library branch as been open about 5 months now. It's an airy modern…read morelooking facility with a good size children's section that has plenty of scheduled activities for the little ones. I haven't been there yet for the movie nights. The adult side is roomy with plenty of room to add more shelving when needed. There is a large computer area with Internet access and free wi-fii available throughout the building. There are a pair of study rooms as well as a meeting room. As you suspect for a newly built public building it very handicapped accessible. It is a nice addition to the parish library system.

Not actually a lighthouse but it still counts. Built in 1924, this was originated as a workshop for…read morethe blind. Today, it's an event space that is available for pop-up shops and art shows. The architecture and design is a complete novelty - there are no ships here in danger of running aground on Camp Street even though the rotating light still works. The architect of the lighthouse was Emile Weil, who also designed the Saenger Theatre. Oscar Gwin Jr. was in charge of construction. The lighthouse portion of the building was modeled after the Milneburg lighthouse, located on the UNO campus where Pontchartrain Beach amusement park was located. There is a small room in the lighthouse portion of the building that is accessible. There was also an really nice 2nd story outdoor deck. The space does seem to still be a work in progress. There was room filled with junk that was visible from the main space via windows. The bathroom door either stuck or wouldn't close and there's only 1 which is an issue at a dinner for 50 people. But it's such an interesting space that I hope they can make it work. It's been featured on Roadside America because it's such an unusual building. The lighthouse was added to a boring old building in 1924 when this spot became the Lighthouse for the Blind...which hasn't been here for decades. Most recent business that I can remember was the lighthouse glass studio. So fingers crossed that they can make a go of it...

It actually took me longer to walk from my parking spot around the corner than to handle my biz inside the courthouse. The lady at the window was extremely nice and the deputies at the entrance were cool. I just hope the judge and prosecutor are the same when I meet them. They see me rollin, they hatin…read more That's right ladies and gentlemen, I was caught riding dirty. Not really, but it does make for a great entrance to a review about traffic court. Traffic court is a place you do not want to find yourself. If you do, you've likely been issued a traffic citation, municipal summons, arrested for DWI or some municipal offense. Since many of you seem to be the type to be traffic scofflaws, I will attempt to share my vast knowledge in an attempt to help you. 1. If you get a parking ticket, don't come here. They can't help you. 2. Don't park in the spots out front. You'll be towed or at least leered at strongly. 3. Unjustly accused? Plead not guilty and get a court date. Will you win? That depends, but it's worth a shot. 4. Guilty as sin? Talk with the city attorney and hope they are amenable to a deal. 5. Municipal court? You shouldn't have gotten into a fight, smoked weed or peed in public. Come on dude. Really? I hope this review helps you next time you find yourself here. Note: one star because it's traffic court. No one likes traffic court.
