First off, this was my 1st ever surgery. From the very start, including a postponement last year June 2024, due to an unforseen "anamoly" with my heart that I didn't even know I had. Dr. Roh and his team of SUPER AMAZING PROFESSIONALS took EXCELLENT CARE of me and have my utmost HONOR and RESPECT with regards to all aspects of my treatment!!! -- On January 9, 2001, I had sustained a low lumbar injury following an outpatient medical procedure (spinal tap) to "rule-out" Meningitis. Something went array, blacked out, woke up in ER. Long-story-short, I been living with a low lumbar injury for close to 25 YEARS and the inevitable outcome from wear-n-tear, age, etc., started to show it's "ugly head" around beginning of October 2023 while I was working in Kauai (memorable experience). Pain, gradually started getting worse every week, down my right buttocks, thigh, whole right leg was swollen down to toes to the point I was unable to stand, walk, or let alone drive. Driving was my job! I had a Class B CDL since April 2012. I was even an Operations Trainer for an AWESOME "Employee Owned" Tourism and Transportation Company. I LOVED training Employee's to help them acquire their Class B CDL'S. 12 Wonderful and Rewarding years with Robert's Hawai'i. Sadly, my last day of work was January 18, 2024 -- Before get off track (these pain meds are gooood LOL) - My procedure was done 2 days ago; December 11, 2025 @ 0600 hrs, an RT L5-S1 TLIF. Martin, for being Dr. Roh' right-hand man and you're the Spinal Nerve Specialist and would place sensors all over my head and body to detect anomalies during procedure, something like that. Maiyu, for taking care of me post-op and offering me some Water, Apple juice, and Sprite, even though I could've sworn you said "Rice" and my wife kept saying, "Not Rice, she said Sprite" and you were both laughing. But it wasn't registering in my brain maybe due to anesthesia and I kept thinking "Rice" but I was hungry too lol Also for Maiyu assisting my wonderful wife and I all the way to the car and helping me get in. Above and Beyond = AWESOME. Mahalo Maiyu!!! Also, the one Nurse who made everything so funny before leaving the clinic. I was literally laughing on the "inside"- Luckily, I don't remember your name. But, you were looking for your phone in my recovery room and all over the place. Including your own bag like 2 or 3 times. And I could see you getting flustered. It seemed like an eternity because you just wanted to go home. Then, you slowed down looked in your bag and it was at the "bottom" -- Yes, idk why, Mahalo for making me laugh!!! I was incredibly nervous about this appointment. Dr. Roh put me totally at ease. I was seen on time (to the dot), and the office and staff there were wonderful (see my review of Orthopedics International). I dreaded the possibility that I might need surgery for my bad back (which my GP and the MRI radiologist seemed to say I required). But Dr. Roh never once said the "S" word (lol). I liked how he listened to me, how he asked if I wanted to see my MRI images (I did!), how he involved me in my treatment plan. I liked how he didn't seem to want to rush into a surgical solution to my problem; honestly, the word never even arose. I also appreciated how he sincerely told me to call immediately if my condition worsened, or if I chose to get the shot he prescribed, and how he gave me a lot of referrals for local physical therapists, and how he said he wanted me to schedule a follow up visit with him in 6-8 weeks. Little history - I've struggled thru lower back pain for 15+ years and found 2013 to be the year that pushed me to my limits. So much so that my chiropractor said one day "Hey - I don't mind seeing you and we know we can make adjustments to get you thru a few days at a time but this is no way to live life... you really should consider surgery". The conversation in itself was a shock (unexpected). He'd heard of the minimally invasive surgeries and had patients find great success so he pointed me to Dr Roh. Pre-Surgery: After putting surgery off for so many years, it was at this point and time that I'd set my mind to consider it that I found myself eager to dive in and do it ASAP. With several options of which office to go to (Kirkland, Seattle and Issaquah) it was right at the start Dr Roh and his team were all about enabling me to know what was going on and what options were available. One of my obvious concerns was knowing others who've done surgery before. Seems it's either perfect/life changing or they tell struggles after 5 or even 10+ surgeries. I recall this as being one of the more detailed conversations we had with Dr Roh. Summary being that for decades doctors have done surgery for just about any complaint made about one's back. The fusion surgery however was intended for my specific symptoms and he shared his confidence in explaining the differences in both conditions and procedures. It was a short period of time and I had things scheduled for as soon as an opening was available, less than 2 weeks out. We hit a snag with the insurance company - clearly a move by BCBS to reduce cost - the procedure was denied even though MRIs, X-Rays and symptoms all showed I met the providers requirements for treatment - in addition to my history with other efforts already tried (chiropractic, physical therapy and other forms of treatment, too). Dr. Roh took it upon himself, to do the follow up and appeal on my behalf - this was totally unexpected and I couldn't be more thankful for this assistance. It was a week or so and we were back on track. Surgery: Can't say I wish I could remember it but I do somewhat recall the follow up while in the hospital, and in getting me prepped to head home. My wife however does remember plenty and sings of how wonderful Dr Roh and team had been. She tends to stress out over just about everything let alone something as big as this. Post-Surgery: Dr Roh's team really shined, even more so than prior to this time. Ashleigh returned every single call, no more than a couple hours after leaving a message. Initially it was my wife engaged more than myself in the first week or two. But it didn't seem to matter how many times or how trivial our questions were, we never felt anything but total and complete support. Josh, also on Dr Roh's team, has been A+ at every engagement. I was actually in so much of a hurry to get into surgery I found that after it was over there were all kinds of things I simply hadn't previously thought to ask. Josh has taken the time to answer all my questions, has gone into all kinds of details and has consider each of my requests. I can't imagine any better results. I certainly can't think of care that can compare to what I received by Dr Roh and team - which includes a host of different surgeries, including an organ transplant. I was referred to Dr. Roh by my physiatrist, after an MRI showed herniated discs which were compressing my sciatic nerve. I could hardly walk (and when I did, I was bent forward and to the side), and was in such excruciating pain (even with medication) that my quality of life had been completely wrecked. Dr. Roh and his staff evaluated me quickly, professionally, and got me into surgery... and the surgery he performed was beautiful. Life changing. I couldn't have hoped for a better result. His office followed up to make sure I was healing well- and healing went remarkably quickly- and was quick to respond when I had questions. Because I had been bent over and nearly bedridden for a few weeks before surgery, I had to strengthen my body/core over time, but my nerves recovered completely and I now do yoga several times per week. (I'm almost a year post-surgery.) I recently went on a vacation in Indonesia that required trekking down steep slopes and much walking, and I didn't feel a twinge of pain. I treat my back kindly, but have no limitations. The "scar" (if you can even call it that) is a very thin line (perhaps an inch, maximum) hidden in a tattoo. Even the tattoo is still intact, thanks to Dr. Roh's thoughtful incision placement. I cannot thank Dr. Roh and his staff enough, and I recommend him most highly. When people who saw me just before surgery ask about my back, I'm almost startled by the question because those days of pain feel like a lifetime ago! Thank you for my new back, Dr. Roh! Even though I'm just posting this review, it's actually from a couple years ago. About Dr Roh: I saw Dr Roh for surgery for a herniated disc. On the initial consult, he came off as cocky. I chalked it up to the confidence of being a surgeon (if you're going to be a surgeon, you better be confident in cutting people open and tinkering with the spine). The only other times I saw him were the day of surgery and my final appointment. At the final checkup, he deflected all of my questions. As an example, I wanted to know what caused the herniated disc, and all he could tell me was movement causes it. It could have been when I was playing tennis, it could have been when I was stretching, it could have been when I bent over to pick something up. I was disappointed that he made no attempt to give me a useful answer. Trying to gauge what I should/should not do in the future, I asked if I could play tennis. He responded affirmatively, but then cautioned that I shouldn't play too hard. With every question I asked, he responded that I could do that activity, I just shouldn't push myself. About his PAC: All other check ups were with his PAC (Joshua Grant), who answered my questions much more thoroughly. He additionally tried to understand my lifestyle to keep me as active as possible while minimizing the risk of reinjury. About the ProOrtho office (in Seattle): The wait times were terrible. I routinely waited over an hour at their office. The assistants would put me in an exam room where I'd sit for 80-100 minutes until the doctor or PAC would come in. Even when I scheduled an appointment for right after lunch, I still waited 90 minutes in the exam room. The office personnel should be ashamed of themselves for not informing patients of the inordinate wait times. Out of my 5 appointments, twice they called me a day or two before the actual appointment to tell me the doctor will be at the other location and I could go there if I wanted. Otherwise, they'd have to reschedule me. Very frustrating. This review is pretty negative, despite my 4 star rating. The 4 stars are a result of his work: it's good. I was in immense pain before surgery and now I have none. The scar is tiny. Friends and family have looked at it and thought it was just a stretch mark, or a mark from a seam from my pants. read more

Nothing short of Outstanding. No pain and full range of motion

Dr Roh is a wonderful person and highly skilled surgeon! I had scoliosis reconstruction surgery five months ago and have had great results. Before deciding on such a major surgery, I researched spinal surgeons and felt that Dr Roh's minimally invasive technique and his experience made him the best choice for me. I came to Dr. Roh to get a second opinion and ended up staying with him through my surgery. And I'm really glad I did -- the surgery went great! I'm not giving 5 stars because my initial appointment was a bit less than desired, but it may have just been a bad day as they were all great from there on out. They've always been really responsive, they were accommodating of my schedule, and they've been super supportive in my questions. After discussing one type of endoscopic discectomy during my appointment, Dr. Roh later signed me up for two laminotomies and an extraforaminal decompression, which were never even mentioned during my appointment. Then, there was an incorrect statement on my Office Visit Report, which I recently received, stating (about those 3 surgeries) that: "All potential risks, benefits, alternatives, and limitations of the surgical procedure were discussed with **** today. He understood the risks and would like to proceed with operative intervention." I found out about the planned surgeries only when I called the day after the appointment to set up the surgery date and found out that I was set to have 3-part back surgery, with no relationship to the type of Discectomy we had talked about to correct my Spinal Stenosis during my visit. It took a telephone call and 3 exchanges of e-mails with Dr. Roh's nurse over the next one week to get a better understanding of the surgeries, which Dr. Roh had planned for me. To his credit, having learnt of my concerns, Dr. Roh did call me at home today to explain in more detail the planned surgeries and why he feels that those are the best options for me. read more

Dr Roh is a very knowledgeable and competent Dr. His staff is very caring and really are the backbone of this organization - Pro Ortho. I had major lower back surgery in September of 2014 with an L4-L5 fusion. I interviewed several back surgeons in WA, researched all the back releif possibilites online & tried all the other possible ways of geting pain free before deciding to go with Dr. Roh. With his experience, and the minimally invasive, computer assisted technique he uses, versus what other surgeons had to offer helped make the deciding vote for his organization. After 6 months, I am mostly healed, walking & exercizing. His assistant Josh Grant is really the person who saw me each time i visited after my initial visits with Dr. Roh. I was hoping that would not be the case, as I really wanted to speak to him directly. However, his assistant Josh Grant is there with him in every surgery, and is able to speak to you about any issues. Ashley, who I called on numerous occasions was extreemly helpful to me when I was in a lot of pain after the operation, called me back right away, and was able to get me the meds i needed quickly. I do not live very close to their offices (over an hour 1/2 drive north) so I was very pleased with the level of service they provided me. I am still on a pain pill 2x a day which is a very low dose compared to the mega pills I was on before the operation without pain relief. I can walk without a cane for the first time in 13 years, and am not in a wheelchair any more, so I cannot complain about the outcome. My sciatica is totally GONE! And, I am still in the healing mode, so things are looking up! Dr. Roh is a fabulous surgeon who specializes in minimally evasive spine surgery. I interviewed three surgeons and thankfully selected Dr. Roh. His technical abilities set him apart from others in Orthopedics. This technique made all the difference in a speedy recovery. What struck me when I met him was his candor, knowledge and the seriousness of what he does and how he does it. I had a double fusion and when I woke up I was in pain from the surgery but the back pain that I have lived with was gone. It is a serious operation but with this technique I was up and about and doing great in weeks. There is so much more I could write so, in a nutshell, I would highly recommend this doctor. Dr. Jeffery Roh is a doctor I have used for more than one surgery. He did fusions on both my lower back and neck. Most recent is the neck surgery. Having suffered migraines for about 15 years, Dr. Roh saw what could be the cause and told me he would fix it. Well, doctors can't give promises but this doctor delivered the goods! In three months I have not had one migraine, was getting them every week before surgery, right up to the few days before. I thank Dr Roh for using his talents to help people such as myself. Dr Roh specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, including vertebral fusion. Recovery time using this technique is much less than for conventional vertebral fusion. I had anterolitsthesis--one of my lower back vertebrae was slipping out in front of the next one down--which was getting worse and pressing on a major nerve and had caused pain for more than two years. Using the minimally invasive technique, Dr Roh was able to largely realign the vertebrae and stabilize them with screws. As soon as I awoke from the procedure, I realized that the pain was gone. Recovery from the narcotics used in the hospital was highly unpleasant, but I was able to walk within two days, and six months after the surgery, I can cross-country ski again without pain. At no time during my consultations with Dr Roh and his staff did anyone push me toward surgery; in fact, they played up the possible downsides and promised essentially nothing. But each of three previous patients I spoke with before making my decision had had positive outcomes and spoke very highly of Dr Roh, the procedure, and his staff. Though I hope I won't need to, I would certainly go to Dr Roh again and recommend him to friends. read more

I simply can't say enough about Jeffrey Roh and his staff. I had a pretty serious herniated disc compressing my cervical spine (C3/C4). I've been active/healthy my whole life and this injury shook me to my core as I was in so much pain and so disabled w daily life. I did need surgery which was incredibly scary but he put me at ease, really listened to me (trust me... I was treated by several Dr's that didn't listen and missed what was really going on). He was very kind, funny, smart, confident and I knew even before the surgery I was with the right team. His staff was just amazing and super responsive and really helped me manage my pain/symptoms waiting for surgery. I am 5 weeks post op and quite humbly he gave me my life back. He's a very gifted surgeon and is on the cutting edge of the newer surgeries. I had an actual disc replacement surgery vs the fusion surgery.
