Rude, arrogant, condescending, and disrespectful. Need I say more? Perhaps not, but I will. I went to him first years ago, because the insides of my knees hurt. I was diagnosed with end-stage (bone on bone) osteoarthritis in both knees. I was told I would need to have both knees replaced but to hold out as long as possible since the technology was getting better and better, so replacements were lasting longer. I was stunned. However, I was left alone in the room with my thoughts. I wasn't given any guidance or literature so I didn't know what to expect or do. Osteoarthritis is degenerative. Several years after being diagnosed, I decided it was time to have my knees replaced. Dr. Harpstrite flatly and bluntly refused to do so until I lost weight. See, the thing is, I'd been heavy the entire time I'd been seeing him. It wasn't as though I had suddenly gained a lot of weight. Yet Dr. Harpstrite never mentioned this critically important point before. I explained that I'd always had a weight problem, and had been on several diets. Some had worked, some had not. But movement was a key tool in keeping my weight under control. As the pain increased, I was less able to move, so I was slowly gaining weight. But Dr. Harpstrite refused to provide any pain relief so i could move - no cortisone, no medication, no nerve ablation, no surgery - nothing. He would prescribe physical therapy if I asked for it, and I did. PT was awesome, but it didn't help, because my knees were too far gone. He'd had no problem giving me cortisone for trigger finger or my left shoulder, but would not do so for my knees. I went on a low-carb diet and lost enough weight until I was about 20 lbs. from my goal. I was taking Pilates once a week, and water exercise 2-3 times per week. But then unfortunately my body rebelled. Nothing I did would restart the weight loss. It was awful and demoralizing. Fast-forward to December 2019. It had become harder and harder to walk. I was exhausted as the pain did not allow me to sleep soundly. Due to allergies, I could take only acetaminophen, which only took the edge off. I made one final plea to Dr. Harpstrite. He was not pleased. He basically trapped me where I was sitting and went over the research that contraindicated knee replacement for people over a certain weight. I just could not seem to get him to understand that I needed to move to control my weight, but I couldn't because of the pain. He would not provide pain relief. His solution? Get bariatric surgery, then he'd replace my knees when I lost enough weight. I did not and do not want bariatric surgery. It is not the panacea it is made out to be. Because of this, I feel I was labeled in my file as being defiant, and not truly wanting to lose weight. Neither of these things are true. I just don't want bariatric surgery. After Dr. Harpstrite completed his angry lecture, he stormed out of the room. I left and will never go back. In early 2021 I found a wonderful new orthopedic surgeon who is (thankfully) the polar opposite of Dr. Harpstrite. In nine months, my life is now totally different. I'm so glad I found him. If you want to know who it is, look through my 2021 reviews. For some reason, I had blinders on with Dr. Harpstrite. I kept thinking he'd eventually understand and help me. Not a patient but primary caregiver to a TKR patient. That 2nd day there was extreme pain & swelling. I called to Dr and explained my concerns. I was told "I've done hundreds of "those surgeries. He's fine.". I explained we have never been thru anything like this. Perhaps I could double up the pain meds. His reply was "I said he is fine." Yah well, thanks for nothing Doc. I called Queens Hospital & the staff in the joint & spine floor were so helpful. Addressed my concerns & explained what to expect in the days to come. read more

I first met him directly out of college about 20 years ago... He's not only my doctor but he's my son's also. Who has sports injuries from his very active lifestyle and running his business and teaching at Ohana Surf Project. Dr Harpstrites is well informed keeping up with the latest in his field precise meticulous and excellent at everything he does. He listens and responds attentively. I've never experienced the kind of arrogance and condescension that this doctor exhibited. I don't often write reviews, but felt compelled to write one here. He took the splint off my broken arm and threw it at my husband. He missed the fracture on the x-ray and appeared to suggest I was exaggerating when describing the pain. Thankfully, another doctor completed a second x-ray, correctly identified the break, and helped me heal. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. I left his office in tears. If I could give him zero stars, I would. read more

Late last year, after consulting with a specialist in San Diego, I was informed I needed a total right hip replacement sooner rather than later. I returned to Honolulu to find an orthopedic surgeon. Although Dr. Harpstrite was not my first choice, he was highly recommended and on my list of surgeons to see. I have to be honest, as I had heard his bed side manner did not appeal to some. However, Dr. Harpstrite ended up being the best choice. I had my right hip replacement in February of this year. Dr. Harpstrite is direct, honest and to the point. At our first meeting, his confidence and reassurance that I needed a hip replacement and would do well, was enough for me to schedule my replacement with him. I am now 6 months post op and doing well. I had difficulty walking since 2019 that progressively got worse. I explored every possible option available, as my mobility declined. Dr. Harpstrite is an excellent surgeon and that is very important. I am now able to walk without any aids and living life fully again! read more

So glad we have such a superb surgeon here in Hawaii. Dr Harpstrite is a no nonsense, on time, "follow my directions and you should be fine" kind of guy. His front of house staff is first rate. The staff at Queen's seem to think very highly of him. His intake team are all helpful, businesslike, but full of aloha style kindness. Very lucky I was referred to his team years ago. They kept me going as long as I could but after no longer being able to walk, we agreed it was time. It's great that he shares his time with the Big Island as well. I'm not through with PT yet but I have a feeling I'm going to be very happy with the eventual outcome from a total knee replacement after decades of limping along and deteriorating crippling osteoarthritis. Couldn't imagine a better team. read more

Dr. Harpstrite is a great doctor who not only cares but listens to you. Having a bad right knee and seeing someone who also has the same conditions as yourself makes it more relatable. His staff are very friendly and professional and it's very convenient that the x-rays are done right next door to his office, what a bonus! read more

Dr. Harpstrite - what can I say? I have been very, very fortunate to have had Harpstrite perform 2 joint replacement surgery on e in 5 1/2 years. My knee in 2007, and my left hip last week. Dr. Harpstrite came highly recommended from my regular Orthopedic Surgeon who does not do replacement. As she said to me over 5 years ago, "If I was to recommend a surgeon for a family member, it would be Dr. Harpstrite." I recovered from my knee replacement and described it as a life changing event. And it was. Now I have just had my hip replacement and after 7 days am already feeling the same. Dr. Harpstrite is a wonderful Doctor and just as important, a wonderful person, always ready to listen to concerns. Thank you Dr. Harpstrite. read more

Dr. Harpstrite is truly the best in his field. I feel so fortunate that my recovery was remarkably swift thanks to his expert skills as a surgeon. Now three and a half months after my total hip replacement surgery, I am almost completely back to normal. His staff were very professional in their respective areas and preparation for surgery was so thorough and complete; this created a safe and comfortable environment for me with all of my questions answered. The hospital nurses shared the same confidence as I have in Dr. Harpstrite and would wholeheartedly recommend him to family and friends without hesitation. Did an Arthroscopic surgery 9/11/19, from another surgeon, which turned out to be a nightmare, so I got a second opinion from Dr Harpstrite. Due to many fluid drains & cortisone shots from previous surgeon, I had to wait a minimum of 3 months of suffering. Anyway, Dr Harpstrite did a full knee replacement on 3/11/20, success. It's been 3 weeks & 1 day since surgery, therapy twice a week & able to walk, bath, dress, etc, without any assistance. Still a few weeks away from pain free, however, I am extremely satisfied with the success of my surgery from a great doctor, whom I highly recommend. Thank you, Dr Harpstrite. P.S. On 2/28/18 Dr. Jeffery Kimo Harpstrite did an anterior approach total hip replacement on my right side. As soon as I recovered from anesthesia the hospitals physical therapist had me walking the halls. No pain from bone on bone arthritis anymore and so much stronger and straighter. I was discharged from the hospital the following day and had an easy time living by myself. Five days later I feel as if I can walk for miles and miles and really need to restrain myself from overdoing things. Going into surgery I had all confidence that I would be in the best of hands with Dr. Harpstrite. He is serious, no nonsense, straightforward and has an awesome reputation. Many physicians, my physiatrist, RNs, friends and people I've met, always highly recommend Dr. Harpstrite because they either had surgery performed by him, had family or friends that had surgery performed by him or worked with him and knew of his expertise. He also has a really nice, calming, friendly bedside manner and made everything seem so easy and nonstressful. His office staff always took great care of all of my appointments, instructions, paperwork, prehab, rehab, medications, x-rays and everything else with efficiency and kindness. They made sure that everything was well taken care of so I did not have to worry about anything. I am so thankful and appreciative for all that Dr. Harpstrite and his associates have done for me and feel so grateful to be under their care. read more

Dr. Jeffery Kimo Harpstrite replaced my left hip yesterday, at Queen's Medical Center. Today I am home and went for my first solo 10 minute walk. It might not seem like a big deal, but 24 hours ago, the replacement was underway. I was released from the hospital the day after surgery and am comfortably home now. Dr. Harpstrite's anterior (frontal) technique doesn't cut through the muscles, as the old method (posterior-from the back side) does. The post op nurse had me up and walking, 30 minutes after I woke up. The excruciating pain I had before the surgery, bone on bone, is gone!!! Yes, there is some pain, although it is different and easily manageable. I am so blessed to have been introduced to Dr. Harpstrite. I highly recommend him to all who are suffering from osteoarthritis. read more

Not a great experience. So far. The queens hospital was terrible and anesthesia and medication was a near death experience. They don't seem to care either. Everyone covers for each other and or shifts responsibility to claim it's someone else's job to cure you. They even start to blame you the patient. Get a medical advocate before dealing with any of this around here. I think they claim success rates and low complications. But no one ever records the patients opinion and outcome from the patients experience. They have a system and it's 100% against you. They don't really take you from a pre surgery preparation all the way to full recovery. It's like you are on your own. If you recover great. If not, they don't care. They will claim the surgery was successful and blame your lack of recovery on you or some other reason. It's curious that there are such few reviews on yelp for this doctor. He does tons of these surgeries over the years. It's like a conveyor belt. A factory. read more

He's a local surgeon practicing primarily at The Queen's Medical Center specializing in Sports Medicine, Traumatic Orthopedic medicine and Total joint replacement. Dr. Harpstrite is a fantastic teacher, clinician, surgeon and individual. His professionalism and compassion are second to none. Worst doctor-patient experience I have ever had in my entire life. Dr. Harpstrite is angry, arrogant and rude. The staff was very nice and professional, the doctor was not. He was extremely condescending, belittled me and talked to me like I was a child. read more

It is now 7 years since my THR and you would not believe what I have put this hip through yet x-rays prove that it continues to be like new! The rest of my major joints are bone on bone but I have not had one single problem with this right hip replacement. I do not say this in pride but to verify just how good of a surgeon Kimo is. I have done 700 pound hack squats to below parallel and 500 pound deadlifts without problem! I have trained MMA style workouts and have done basically anything I want to do without pain and without the replacement failing! I am now in Las Vegas and the ortho surgeons can't believe the results. There are no ortho surgeons worth a damn in this city to treat my shoulders, knees, or cervical spine and they are now very painful. I need to go back to Hawaii for optimum care. Thanks Kimo, and even though we had our problems your work is second to none. read more

I was referred to Dr. Harpstrite's office for my right knee. My appointments were always early in the morning so I was lucky enough to not have a long wait time. What I like about Dr. Harpstrite is he was straight to the point. Not sure if it was due to my injury being easy to diagnose or take a guess based on my story, but I was in and out within 20 minutes. I enjoy having doctors go straight to the point. But as quick as the appointments were, he was very thorough. He's also very friendly which is important for me. Their staff is also quite nice and helpful. I just received my surgery yesterday (12/2) and was very busy. But everyone was extremely friendly making sure I was comfortable. They kept me well informed, and told me they were running behind schedule. I guess the only negative I would have to say was the delay wasn't due to a busy schedule, but they took a later patient before me. But I wasn't in a rush, or going anywhere, so I wasn't complaining. Overall, I enjoy Dr. Harpstrite and his staff and would definitely recommend him to a friend! read more

This review is for his nurse JEN! When arriving home after JUST getting discharged( Anterior Hip Replacement) my husband started getting red and sweating.., had burning urinating! Called Harpstripe office and no answer so left message!! This was 3pm! Paperwork says to call the doctor if any above issues occurred.. they did! Earlier at discharge nurse was trying to call Harpstripe office to get follow up date and no answer! 11am!! All afternoon and evening no call back....so this morning I called AGAIN and got Jen! She claims phones weren't working and more excuses and all I want is to get help for THEIR PATIENT!!! Her tone was abrupt , rude and very defensive! My husband JUST got home and in distress!! I wanted some assurance and SUPPORT and Jen just kept saying she didn't get the message!! And Doctor is in surgery ALL DAY!!! Ok so let's move on to how to HELP!! She got me so upset I started raising my voice.., she has NO CLUE how to deal with situations and to diffuse!! She said I could talk to Administrator??? FOR What??? Yes to complain!!!!She threatened to HANG UP ON ME!! And SHE DID!! How unprofessional is that!!!! She has NO CLUE how to handle patients! She should have IMMEDIATELY assured me she would help and offered some options.. ie get a Urine sample and go to Diagnostic lab or something... getting him in car again after hip replacement is not going to happen the first day!!! It's like " we are done with you take your problem somewhere else!!!" VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and to HANG UP on a patient ...my husband couldn't believe it!!! I organized all my husbands appointments and meds cause he has SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS from a Pituitary tumor so last 8 yrs I handle all medical issues for him! I explained that in initial consult appointment!! Jen also ignored that fact and left a message on his phone???? Makes you wonder why she feels so secure in her job to act this way??? read more

One month ago I had partial knee replacement with Dr Harpstrite and am very happy with the outcome. I am still going through PT but I'm very confident that I will have a full recovery. Feeling stronger every day. I had my surgery in the Hale Pawaa surgical center and came home the same day. I was extremely happy with their new Surgicenter and it was absolutely the right decision for me. Dr Harpstrite, Mr. Luttrell and all of their office staff have awesome customer support and their office is very efficient. I highly recommend them and when I'm ready to have my other knee done I will not hesitate to see Dr. Harpstrite again! read more

Fantastic surgeon. Accurate. He Predicted when my hip would begin to fail almost to the day. Genuinely nice guy. Very conscientious doctor. I would not hesitate to see him for any othopedic surgery. read more

My name is Ralph E. 9 Years ago Dr Harpstrite did my left hip and I wish it was done earlier, pain is not pleasant! Christmas 2018 my right hip was giving me discomfort, X-ray showed Bone on Bone. Right away I went to Dr Kimo , schedule surgery. I waited to long with pain on my left hip. NOT doing that again!! 2/27/19 Surgery 9:30am At 1:30 PT exercise was preformed same day. All at QUEENS! 1:00am I was doing laps around the 8th floor. Spent one night at Queens, went home! Walking no problem!!! Dr Kimo said don't go back in the Ocean, just yet! Bummer! i too read the negative reviews, but i was determined to draw my own conclusions. The staff was friendly and professional. There was a gentleman from Tripler initially who took my medical history. He was very thorough and professional. Shortly Dr Harpstrite came in.He explained things to me about my knees and shin on one leg. He answered my questions patiently. He gets right to the point. There was no sugar coating anything. If i need surgery down the line i would like him to be my surgeon.I would tell people to draw their own conclusion. Had i listened to most of the reviews I would not have discovered a good doctor. I would recommend him to my friends. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews. My experience with this office has been the best. This guy is a lifesaver and his staff is courteous and outstanding. Another doctor did a partial knee replacement for me in Hilo, which became infected soon after. Long story short, after many complications and procedures, Dr. Harpstrite took over my care, did a full knee replacement on the same knee at Queens and has watched me carefully ever since, until I finally made it back onto the road to recovery. It's been a long, tough year and I'm thankful to Dr. Harpstrite and his caring staff, who always returned my calls and answered my questions within 24 hours. I would recommend him with no hesitation. read more

I'm not the patient but a very concerned caregiver. Dr. called me after the surgery saying it went well, but when I tried to voice my concerns he said he does hundreds of these every year and the patient will be fine. He may do hundreds, but I've never been thru one of these before. My dogs vet has more concern for the caregivers than this guy. He pretty much blew me out the door. Said thank you and hung up. read more

I recently had a total hip replacement procedure performed by Dr Kimo Harpstrite. I was recommended to him by my physical therapist at Rehab Hospital, as well as by Dr. Dwight Lin of RMR Honolulu. Both of them had high praise for his expertise in performing the Anterior Approach to total hip replacement. I believe there are only two physicians in the state who perform this procedure, and Dr. Harpstrite has performed the most number of these procedures. I am *so* thankful that I did not allow myself to be influenced by some of the negative reviews found here on Yelp. My procedure was performed at Queen's, although Dr. Harpstrite's office is associated with the Orthopedic Associates team working out of the Pawaa Building (former site of Meadow Gold Dairy). I was admitted on a Monday for a 1:30 PM procedure, and was walking the hallway the next morning. By 2:30 PM Tuesday, I completed the Queen's joint replacement follow-up group meeting and was discharged...! I'm back with my physical therapist now stepping through the required follow-up procedures - but am already well on my way to full recovery. Dr. Harpstrite is the only surgeon I would ever entrust with such an important decision. read more

Waited 40 minutes yestersday- Nov.17, 2016, to see Jeffrey Kimo Harpstrite for a knee problem, Upon getting into the examining room a ;person named Michael enters the room and introduces himself as the Nurse's Assistant. After having my xray results explained to me by this nurse's assistant -I 'm asked - 'Would I like medication and/or P.T.?" I am thinking - Who is this person and is he qualified to make a determination about my condition? Then next he prescribes a treatment plan and injects a dose of medication in my knee without even explaining what it is for or it's name? Did I not come to this office to see a Jeffrey Kimo Harpstrite who is supposedly an Orthopedic Specialist? Why am I being downgraded now to a Nurses Assistant? AND wouldn't you think that if this office is charging my two insurance companies at a Specialist rate that I would at the very least be able to see such a Specialist? What is this all about? A scam to get rich quick at the expense of your patients? Whatever happened to honest, kindhearted physicians who put themselves before others and sincerely cared for their patients using the knowledge and expertise that they supposedly should have??? Is it all about yourself Harpstrite and what you can squeeze out of elderly patients who can't fight back? This will be reported to HMSA, DCCA, BBB, AMA and Action Line. What goes around comes right back around. read more

I read the previous negative reviews of Dr. Harpstrite before making an appointment, and thought, "Who cares what the guy is like as long as he's a good surgeon." When he greeted me in a friendly way and proceeded to explain why he thought I wasn't a good candidate for surgery, I thought, "Those other people must have been expecting something remarkable. He's a nice enough guy." And I have to say, I appreciate it any time a surgeon tells me frankly that he doesn't believe there's much he can do for me--much better than someone taking the money, doing the surgery, and then shrugging when it doesn't work out, so I give Dr. Harpstrite credit for that. But after fifteen minutes, while I was trying understand my options, he brusquely told me he didn't have time to talk, and practically walked out in the middle of the conversation. I thought, "Wow--those other people were right! He may or may not be a good surgeon, but he's also a bit of a prick." I've seen my share of doctors over many decades and I'm not a particularly sensitive guy, but I've never had a more personally unpleasant experience in a doctor's office. read more

Went to OA by referral for hip problems, I was told that both hips needed to be replaced and recovery time would be 2 to 3 months. I was referred to Dr. Jeffrey Harpstrite who did my surgery and after 8 years of worsening pain I feel a whole lot better! After 28 years in the plumbing business something had to give, well thanks to Dr. Harpstrite I'm doing a lot better, still having post op pain but way better then before, so to negative Nadine who posted her complaint, be patient and relax Dr. Harpstrite is a great doctor and person! Argh. I showed up at 8:15 am, my appointment time and when I signed in I counted 5 patients that had signed in at 8:00. I was put in a room after about 15 minutes and waited a total of an hour. When Dr. Harpstrite finally came in, he looked at a blank page, made a mark, asked me 1 question confirming that I had had a shot with minimum results. Didn't bother to ask me about continuing symptoms, or where the pain was coming from, didn't examine me at all and after less than a minute determined that unless I needed surgery he couldn't help me. Gave me information for a spine surgeon and a pain clinic and left the room. In front of a med student I might add. I have never felt so discounted as I did that day. I was reccommended to see Dr Harpstrite for a shoulder issue. I have AVN and Ostio-arthritis. My joints are all going bad. I had my Left hip replaced in Weamea two years ago on the big island and went well except now one leg is longer than the other. It was performed by a ortho surgeon at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Dr Harpstrite met with me on time and review my films as well as spent time with me explaining the options. I chose a Hemi-arthroplasty of the right shoulder. I was in surgery at Queens in a couple of weeks, Feb 10th 2014. During the surgery it was found that I had rotator cuff tears that did not show up on the MRI. Dr Harpstrite did complete repairs of all the problems and I was able to be discharged the next day, thanks to Dr Harpstrite listening to my request and the excellent care of the Queens orthopedic staff. I really do not know what the others are complaining about. I have been a nurse for over twenty years and worked in the OR as a surgical nurse in Orthopedics in the mainland and at HMC. Dr Harpstrite is the best and when my left side starts going bad, I will be asking Dr Harpstrite to do those replacments as well. David Deweese read more

Hands down, the best medical service I have ever received! Dr Harpstrite, Mike and the rest of the staff are incredible! I had a hip replacement 3 months ago and was in by 6am and home by 2pm walking up my large staircase to my bedroom. My hip was in such bad shape before the surgery that it was bone on bone. Now, 3 months later, I can't even tell I had the replacement other than a small scar. No pain whatsoever and I am back to my yoga practice with ease. Also, after at least 5 office visits before and after the surgery, I never had to wait. In fact, as soon as i sit down in the waiting room, my name is called and then just one or two minutes in the examination room before I am tended to. Furthermore, and to my embarrassment, one week after the surgery, I was feeling so much better, that i got cocky and did not hold onto the railing and fell down the stairs. I immediately called Mike and he was at my home in 30 minutes to verify that I was ok. It was unbelievable and so wonderful to be in such caring good hands. read more

This Dr, Hartstripe has an issue with none athletic type person that come to him for help. In my younger years I was very athletic, I played Football , Basketball, I was a lifeguard at a community swimming pool,I was quite active back then. Well today I'm a old guy still active but not like a 30 year old. I was referred to him for a knee replacement and he that almighty best surgeon at Queens Medical Center bas turn his cheek the other way said I was to Big for this surgery gave me an injection in the knee and sent me on my painful way. My xray we're looked at by three doctor's and all three told me I need a knee replacement and they also told me they don't know how I'm still walking with all the damage. Dr Harpstripe likes to shine in his field I guess he figures my surgery may not work so he doesn't want to try...it may make him look bad. Well I'm the one that should have to make that decision not him read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Harpstrite as he came highly recommended. My appointment was for 8:30 a.m. and the Dr. did not see me until 9:50 a.m. When he finally did see me, he performed only a cursory exam and recommended physical therapy. I reminded him that it was my physical therapist who had recommended I see him to which he responded, "Well I could send you to a neuro surgeon if that's what you want." Hmmm. That felt like a bullying tactic. Why on earth would I want to be referred to a nuero surgeon unless it is medically required. What I want is for the doctor to whom I am paying several hundred dollars to do his job. That means, perform an examination, listen to your patient, and discuss the options and possible medical conclusions with your patient in a calm, clear, and thoughtful manner. I was disappointed that Dr. Harpstrite conducted himself in such an arrogant and obnoxious manner and that I gained absolutely zero insight into whatever medical condition it is that I have. read more

I had a knee replacement by Dr. Hartstrite a year and ahalf ago. I was told to wait a year for swelling to go down. It has been over a year and a half and the swelling has increased, along with pain, stifness, and more lack of range. I have done all the PT required and more. I live on an outer island but chose this doctor because he was highly recommended. Yesterday i was here on Oahu and got in to talk to him about my concerns. He literally shut me down when i tried to explain to him the dificulty i was having. I was not only received with complete lack of empathy and interest but was treated with a level of rudeness never experienced from a professional before. I was in tears. When i pleaded with him he abruptly turned around and left never addressing the knee he repaired. This man has a dis-connect with his patients that is unprecendeted. Your probably fine if everything goes well but if not, be aware he will abandon you and throw you to the curb. I regret the day i met him. read more

Dr. Kane is a caring human being first; a doctor second. He is the first doctor who let me tell him about myself first. My thoughts and anecdotal history about my symptoms. Before he went into his medical expertise. No doctor before him has ever shown as much interest in getting to know the person behind the ailments. How refreshing to feel seen. And then really heard. Being the youngest of 9, I often felt invisible. And in those days, "children were seen and not heard." Dr. Kane explained the reasons for my symptoms regarding my right knee pain. Thankfully, it was not a recurrence of my meniscus tear from 2017. It was just a little irritation to a bit of arthritis. Thank God! Trickier is my recurring frozen shoulder. But Dr. Kane delivered what I had hoped he could. Because of breathing issues to do with one of my diseases, I should not have anesthesia. So, my shoulder will be anestathized, not me. It's been over two years since I visited this place for my knee recovery, but I am so glad to have had such a supportive team and helping me get back to walking again. What made it very easy to keep coming back was there out-of-pocket pricing. There was a point in my recovery where I had exhausted my coverage, but I was able to still continue my visits with an extremely low out-of-pocket cost. I'm not sure if the out-of-pocket cost was low because it was continuing my recovery with them or if that was their normal out-of-pocket cost, but it was somewhere around $8 to $15 a session. That is a deal in my opinion. If I ever needed to go to a recover center, this place would be my first go to!

Apparently saying this is a kiss of death with doctors as they will think you have unhealthy thoughts as to doing it locally. It was Ego issues towards me not wanting local surgery. What ever it was, he did not take heed to my lack of bowel movements. He kept saying that I would eventually go and not to worry about it. Same answer all the time until I was, by his records, over three weeks due for a bowel movement. I was still trusting him at this point. He then said he would make sure I was taken care of by Castle Medical ER department. I was turned away from my first visit to the ER and his office said they need to schedule my surgery to save my life now. I waited at home for another 5 days calling his office every morning and afternoon wondering when I would be saved from a blocked Colon. That Friday they told me that the girl scheduling me went home and I would have to call back in three days on Monday. It was at this time that I called a friend to take me to Queens ER. I was septic checking in, as per the nurses observations. I lost so much muscle, 42 pounds as well as coordination and abilities. Completely rotting in the ICU for over two weeks while they performed five surgeries to save my life. I lost my colon. I now have a bag on my hip for life which really sucks! An obvious Malpractice. I took my case to the Medial Inquiry Conciliation Panel. This is a panel that protects doctors from frivolous cases. In all of the Attorneys quotes about them is that,'' they never rule in your favor even if it is blatant.'' The panel looked at my records and the medical expert witness said that, "Dr. Kaminskas was guilty on one piece of paper. It shows that he tested you with a constipation touch test against your stomach every time you visited. It also shows him prescribing you Opiods. If it was constipation that caused this, then he is guilty on this one paper only." A very easy case to solve. I reviewed over 500 attorneys even contacting some on the mainland. I could not get the money or the attorney so I handled my case all the way to 30 days before trial. I could not afford all the fees I was getting from the Doctors Insurance Defense attorneys whom lived up to their reputation of stopping legit cases with as much paper work and BS they can throw in the way. I will say that Dr. Kaminskas was sued every year during the time that I was chasing after my law suit to settle with him legally. I do think he is a great neurosurgeon but his office apparently can not handle his patients. I think this is where I fell through the cracks. My emergency should have been the most important business during that week alone. He left me for dead. I am lucky I saved myself from their BS process.

With the results, the next step was an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Scheduling the appointment caught me off guard. I inquired on the first available appointment as my injury was in early-July. Sunday was offered. A doctor who works on Sundays? I took it. Then, a little over a week prior to the appointment I received another phone call from the doctor's office asking to move up my appointment from the afternoon to mid morning on that Sunday. This worked better for me as I was anxious to the results of my injury and what direction to take. Because it was a Sunday, I opted for street parking and walked to Hale Pawa'a. I arrived 20min prior to my appointment as I anticipated forms to complete. To my surprise, I arrived to his office in suite 110 but was advised to check in across the hall at All Access Ortho (AAO) in suite 102. Because my information is already with AAO, check in process was quick with only one sheet to complete, requesting me to document my current status since my injury. I then returned to suite 110 with my completed form. I didn't even sit down for 5min and my name was called. The staff escorted me to an examination room and in less than 5min Dr. Kan entered. I found Dr. Kan to be very personable and informative. He explained my situation where I understood. He broke things down where facts were stated and what action to take. I was dreading the thought of surgery but it is what it is. I want full mobility of my left arm and when advised this is a common procedure with a high success rate. With physical therapy post surgery, I was advised I'll be back to normal. With that explanation, I trust Dr. Kan and I agreed. I now await the approval of the insurance company before I can schedule this procedure. Overall, a positive first experience and now feel better knowing of my current condition and what steps are needed for recovery. I'll admit there's a part of me that's concerned but I need to trust the professional. Dr. Kan and his staff extended me with great customer service and care where this business is worthy of a 5-star rating.

I just had a procedure done this week and must give kudos to Dr Kan and his entire team. Seriously…read moreone of the most efficiently-run medical office I've ever encountered. At the initial appointment, Dr Kan went over a thorough explanation of my injury, what he would do to fix it, how long the procedure would take, and what to do after the procedure. All in under 10 minutes, and that included my questions. I was pre-registered the week before the appointment. I mean, they disbursed the medication I would need the WEEK before so no need to go to the pharmacy while disoriented from anesthesia. On the day of, everyone checked in on the ipad, and I pre-paid before the procedure. Prepping was done super fast and I didn't wait long for anything. I elected to sleep rather than hear the "crunching sounds" from the procedure (didn't sound pleasant). After sleeping an hour or so, one of the nurses woke me up and called my sister for pickup. The day after, my shoulder felt better than it had in months. Would definitely recommend Dr Kan and his team to anyone!

I just think the person who greets patients is the first impression of the office, and a simple smile or friendly attitude can make a big difference. Especially in a healthcare setting where people may already be stressed or nervous. Other than that, my experience was great, and I'd definitely come back. Meanwhile they are charging you no matter if they made mistakes to your script, false on people notifying you, false on Specialist that will contact you, because you will have to make a return visit and tell them. I do know now how ppl like this stay in business. It's the mentality of "onto the next sucker". So dont fall for it! This is peoples lives they are messing with! I could only imagine our kupuna patiently waiting on a company that obviously doesnt give a rip.

I called the office when I was in the back lot and someone came out to wheel the patient in. That helped a lot since I ended up parking on the 3rd floor of the garage. BTW they validate your parking, one hour in our case. We didn't wait long and Dr. Sam Chen walked in very upbeat, cheery, and positive. He was prepared, had seen the x-rays, and doctor's report, and knew what the problem was. The consultation was good and Dr Chen laid out the plus side of operating as well as the downsides. We chose not to do surgery at this time but do appreciate the candor of Dr. Chen. Even if we did not have surgery with Dr. Chen, I wholeheartedly recommend seeing Dr. Sam Chen. You will be pleased.

Aloha! A family…read moremember in their late-70s went in for a right hip arthroplasty. Patient chose Cass Nakasone out of a pool of available surgeons. When going to the hospital to start the process, I noticed the communications between departments is disorganized. That was a giant red flag. The patient history and ailments were *clearly* communicated to staff multiple times. Despite repeated awareness of spine, tailbone, and other issues, the tailbone area had severe swelling causing significant pain during recovery likely due to the fact it was not supported in the procedure. Patient had to be admitted back into the hospital for pain mgmt under extreme pain. Nakasone did not even meet the patient until just before the procedure in hospital prep. This was concerning - another red flag (too busy). He also never visited the patient in the same facility after the procedure for a personal follow-up though he was on the same floor. To be fair, looking at imaging and results post-op, the work done by Cass for the procedure was good in itself. Specifically in Nakasone's office, some clinicians in the office were very attentive, others not so much. Unfortunately, the ones in charge of post-op care were not the attentive ones. Post-op, the phone number given for emergencies, etc was not working and no response from staff nurses. We were told to use the Straub portal to message the office, but we could not initiate messages. Again, communication issues. My family member would not have made it though the ordeal if I was not being a strong patient advocate 24/7 for weeks at their bedside. Thus, in final, if you are a patient with special needs/requirements I would not recommend. This office moves way too fast and does not have the proper communications system in place to help ensure a positive outcome.

The surgery itself was scary, but everything went smoothly and my recovery has been just as positive. Thanks to Dr. Bellino, I went from living with constant, chronic pain to having none at all. I truly do not regret this surgery for a second and am so grateful I went through with it. I'm now preparing for a hardware removal, and once again he has been incredibly thorough, patient, and reassuring while explaining the process. I was also breastfeeding during this entire experience, including surgery and recovery, and he was very understanding and supportive of that as well, which meant more to me than I can express. On top of that, he has been incredibly accommodating and understanding of the unique challenges that come with being active-duty military, which can be difficult to navigate in civilian care. Dr. Bellino is kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate. And as a bonus, his mustache deserves its own five-star review. I cannot recommend him enough. If you're nervous, in pain, or looking for a surgeon who truly listens and cares, you're in excellent hands.

I'm struggling terribly and I'm trying to get answers why. I wish I could speak to the surgeon who actually did my surgery.

About 13 years ago, I started having pain, instability, and even locking of my knees during and…read moreafter playing golf, hiking, running stair climbing exercises, and aerobics classes. At the time, I rarely saw my PCP more than once a year, but I gave in to making an appointment to get a referral with an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jay Marumoto. After having X-rays and an MRI of my knees, it was determined that I had developed meniscus tears and was a candidate for bilateral arthroscopic meniscus repair. Before the surgery, Dr. Marumoto said he expected me to recover and return to my daily activities quickly because of my fitness level and age. So, I had meniscus repairs done on both knees at the same time while I was actively in the workforce and recovered quickly within several months. However, he also warned me that I'd probably have to return in about 15 years as he could see the beginnings of osteoarthritis and knee replacement could be in my future. Well, I returned within 15 years to Dr. Marumoto, who honestly told me that deciding when to have surgery is up to me. He didn't pressure me into having surgery, and luckily, my pain level is still very low, manageable through exercise, and I've been keeping up my fitness level for faster recovery. I can see myself having the more invasive knee replacement surgeries soon but have several upcoming trips planned up through mid-2025, so I chose to delay surgery and go through a series of physical therapy for further knee functional strengthening or "prehab" at JACO Rehab. I like Dr. Marumoto's candid approach and attention to detail. He identified the health issue(s) and explained effective treatments. He also described expected results and recovery but pointed out the possible risks, as with any surgery. Now, I wish I had followed my parents' advice about swimming for health benefits instead of focusing on land-based activities, which have exacerbated my knee joints' osteoarthritis.

I was like oh no I gotta wait another 2 weeks but the staff was nice to reschedule it the next day after they fixed the problem. One day wait no problem for me. The Dr and his staff had no control over the problem at the hospital for cancelling my surgery appt anyway. I would wait however long as long the surgery was to be successful. I had to edit my initial review. Going straight to the…read morepoint: Very unprofessional and pretentious doctor. I Googled for a knee specialist after I had a snowboarding accident and injured my knee. I made an appointment with this doctor and she ordered an MRI. When it was time to schedule a follow up appointment with her, she was on vacation and I had to wait 2 weeks. In the mean time I managed to schedule an appointment with a different doctor to go over the MRI results and see his approach. When I went for my follow up appointment with Dr Ignacio, she started the consultation saying I've already seen Dr Richardson and he already explained the MRI results. She mentioned The doctor that did my shoulder surgery 4 years ago is also a knee specialist and she was his mentor. And I'd be in good hands with him. And she brushed me off, got up and left the room. Not only very unprofessional but acted like a spoiled child. This is my body and I have the right to see any doctor I want and I'm not obligated to only see one doctor. The same right you have to go on vacation for two weeks, I also have the right not to wait around go see another doctor, get their opinion and see their approach. I'm the one choosing who's going to take care of my body. I hope other people read my comment and think twice before seeing her.

Waited in the room for 50 minutes. As I was sitting there with the door closed, I heard Dr Ignacio…read moreright outside the door say loudly "UGH! There are just so many of them!" I think she caught herself or was warned that I was in the adjacent room, and then quickly changed her tone and said, "but we are blessed to have so many patients". I remember thinking that's a first. Maybe she's having a long day. Context: I've had shoulder pain for over two years. Dr Gesik (who is amazing btw!) recommended physical therapy as a first step. I did that twice. I did the exercises at home to strengthen my shoulder. Nothing worked or helped the pain go away. The PT at the end told me, PT isn't going to work for you, you are going to need surgery as you probably have a tear. So after 50 min she finally comes in and is pretty nice and professional as she goes over my mri results and the potential options for my shoulder tear. She says there's more PT, a plasma injection treatment or full blown surgery. She says she recommends more PT out of the 3 options. I begin to tell her my story about my 2 year history with PT and the fact that the I've done it twice and they told me it won't work. So I asked with this added information what do you recommend. Her whole tone and temperament changed and she says in a curt rude tone, "It doesn't matter what I think, you are going to do what you want anyways". I was kind of in shock, I had never been talked to like that by my doctor before, so after an awkward 10 second silence I said, well to be honest after two years I would like to try something else. So after some very short, matter of fact responses from her (the friendly Dr that walked in initially was gone) we settled on the plasma injection option with surgery being the last resort. My impression is that because she is so busy as I know from her initial comment in the hallway, she took offense that I had questions and was forcing her to take more time with me. I wasn't a person with an injury to her, I was an item amongst many to get through during her day. She left and I just felt demoralized and definitely not optimistic about the option ahead. Ironically her nurse came in and talked to me about plasma and said she had it and it fixed her, which was comforting. BUT she said they would call me to schedule the treatment and of course, no one ever called. I called their office to follow up. Left a message, and no one ever called me back. All that was months ago now and I am still in pain and have to find a new doctor because my Queens Dr experience has been a disaster. Hope to save everyone out there of the trouble and grief.

Not on any meds, have all my teeth and never a major surgery so you can trust my testimony. I've had several yrs. of excruciating pain shooting thru my upper back all the way down to my toes. I've been diagnosed with Sciatica, Arthritis and body misalignment. I've had Chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, even holistic therapy, but nothing worked until I was recommended to Dr. Darin Awaya at Kuakini. After just one MRI and Xray, like a Wiz, he knew right off what caused all this pain I had for years. None of the other "professionals" saw the cause let alone how to eliminate it. Then, after having the surgery when I took my first steps, I realized all the pain was completely gone. Ultimately, I was able to return to normal activities which I had to cutback: household duties, Power walking, Aerobics, hiking & traveling. Dr. Awaya knows his craft. He's a knowledgeable, no-nonsense, truthful professional who is dedicated to helping people get back to normal. I am living proof of that.
