It's been one year since I first saw Dr. Morton, and what a year it has been. I am doing so much better and have made such progress that I'm almost back to being my active self of long ago - even before knee replacement surgery. I've been getting cortisone shots in both knees from Dr. Morton every three months. The pain control allows me to move more easily and sleep better. In the last year, I started taking three online exercise classes. I do them seated, but I move my legs, too. Dr. Morton referred me to Dr. Jodi Nishida of The Keto Prescription. I've lost 67 lbs. so far and have at long last conquered my sugar cravings. I eat more healthily than I ever have. I'm working toward losing about 33 lbs. more, at which point I can have knee replacement surgery. Surgery on the right knee is scheduled for late July, followed by replacement of the left knee three months later. After surgery my goal is to lose at least 50 lbs. more. Dr. Morton also referred me to Dr. Daniel Burdick, a pain management specialist. He gives me pain control shots in my left hip. The joint has eroded because I can only walk while keeping my right knee straight. It is possible I may also need to have my right hip replaced in the future. Dr. Burdick sent me to aquatherapy, which I really enjoyed. I'm waiting to hear if insurance will approve some more sessions. In the meantime I'm doing additional exercises on my own to try and be as physically ready for surgery as I can. When I saw Dr. Morton's ad on KIKU a little over a year ago, by the end of the commercial, I knew he was the orthopedic surgeon I needed to see. I was right. read more

I am posting this review to warn patients about billing and refund issues with Dr. Paul Morton's office, not the medical care. In November 2025, I prepaid several thousand dollars for PRP injections, but after surgery the plan changed and the doctor agreed a refund was owed for injections not received. This was never disputed. Despite that, it took about six months of repeated calls, emails, and office visits to receive the refund. I was told multiple times that the refund had been processed or mailed when it had not. I am sharing this so patients can be aware of the refund process before paying large amounts upfront. I had my knee replacement surgery on 10/21 and had my second postoperative with Dr Morton. Still dealing with some swelling but other than that procedure went well and I'm ahead of most patients in the same time frame. ROM is good haven't used a cane since week 2, am able to go up and down stairs. Throughout this time I appreciate that communication with Dr Morton regarding issues has been easy. Overall the whole process has been very positive considering that it was major surgery. I'm glad that most people have had a positive experience here, but that was not the case for me at all. I have a hip injury that had been misdiagnosed for the past 14 years due to not being listened to by medical professionals. I came to Dr. Morton for a second opinion regarding surgery because I was given conflicting information from the sports medicine doctor that I saw and the orthopedic surgeon. Before coming to Dr. Morton's office I called and specifically asked his staff if he only does complete hip replacements or if he also does arthroscopic hip surgeries, because I was seeking advice regarding arthroscopic hip surgery, and I was told he does both. I also gave them all of my information for my MRI/imaging reports and was told Dr. Morton would have access to review them for my appointment. When I came in for my appointment one of the first things Dr. Morton told me was that he only does complete hip replacements. This was somewhat frustrating because I had specifically asked his staff this question, but figured he could still provide advice. Based on our discussions, it then seemed to me that Dr. Morton never reviewed my MRI results nor were the images ever brought up in the appointment. But the thing that bothered me most was how condescending I felt Dr. Morton was towards me. I felt he had this attitude of how dare I question other medical professionals, but as I explained earlier, I had been misdiagnosed for 14 years and was repeatedly told I did not need an MRI, and only received one after a lot of advocating for myself, which finally showed I have multiple injuries that require surgical intervention. I even tried to explain that I have an endocrine disorder and anxiety, and that this injury has stopped me from being able to exercise/be active (I used to do CrossFit, Tahitian dancing, hiking, etc.) which has been detrimental to my physical and mental health. Dr. Morton's comment to me regarding this was that I should see a nutritionist for my weight. I have seen a nutritionist and multiple specialists, but I wasn't asking about my weight. I am an attorney who specifically works in an area of law that is also related to the medical field, so I did not feel that my questions were obscure or irrelevant, but I could tell the more questions I asked the more agitated Dr. Morton became. So much so, that by the end of the interaction he just got up and walked out of the room, and the nurse/medical assistant that was also in the room awkwardly rushed out after him. The nurse did kindly say thank you for coming in as she rushed out the door, but neither of them explained the check out process. I felt so defeated, awkward, and uncomfortable as I left. read more

I have been putting off fixing my knee for decades cause I didn't want plates and screws. Then I saw Dr.Morton on tv and watched what he does. I then made an appointment and he was just the most patient and understanding doctor, I took up an hour and a half of his precious time and he answered every concern and question I had. Also, upon entering his office, you are greeted by Phyllis who had me fill out forms. Then I met Melissa who is his physician associate and also answers any questions I might have and took off my wrap and explained the healing process. Also, there is Carol who handles everything prior to surgery and anytime I had a concern she was there to answer and put me at ease. They are all just so happy so I knew they really enjoyed their job which is very important to me. Then I met Kelcie, who does dual duties with Dr Morton and the PT right next door, Bryson, who I highly highly recommend and chose him cause he's in the same office as Dr Morton and if there's any questions they both are in the same office. And Dr Morton has his own X-ray technician so it's all done in one place. Wanted to praise and thank Kelcie for being so so efficient in getting my daughter's FMLA approval so fast and she is so on top of it that she scheduled all my PT appointments. I have friends that are watching how I do with the surgery and when they see that I'm walking about and have no more arthritic pain, they are seriously considering going to Dr Morton. Dr Morton has got to be the most patient physician with the best bed side manners. He explained his thought process when suggesting surgery as an option to pain that changes your lifestyle. He also explained in depth what to expect the day of surgery and immediately post-op. I was transparent and explained that I just wanted a second opinion. Dr Morton was respectful of that and took the time to go over everything, knowing full well that I might not even have him as my surgeon. My 75 year old mother put off getting knee surgery for several years. She endured the pain, because she was afraid she would be in more pain after the surgery and was afraid it wouldn't relieve her knee pain. At her consultation, Dr. Morton explained how surgery would help her have a better quality of life. He was also honest to say that it's not a 100% guarantee, but he showed a confidence that made us feel confident in his surgical skills. Post surgery, my mom went home the same day, after the anesthesia was wearing off. My mom was amazingly strong, but I also think it was partly due to the skillful hands of Dr. Morton. He checked up on her before and after surgery and also called to check up on her at home. My mom has a better quality of life now due to the success of her knee surgery. Direct anterior total hip arthroplasty is a technically demanding procedure; each step plays a critical role in the outcome. That's why choosing the best of the best of orthopedic surgeons is vital for positive outcome of new hip longevity and excellent recovery. I took my time looking and researching whom I can trust my hip and chose Dr. Morton. He is professional, compassionate, patient, kind and highly intelligent. I chose him initially based on his resume, I wanted top orthopedic surgeon at the hight of his carrier who has been trained abroad and has been chosen to be one the best in his field. Ask someone with arthritis of the hip who could no longer flex their hip and back to allow them to sit in a chair, who no longer can stand up and walk without pain what sort of difference was made by a total hip replacement. Nobody but an orthopedic surgeon does that kind of surgery. What they do is very concrete. You can see, feel and touch in one way or another in orthopedics. There's not much looking at reams of test results, and "when all else fails, examining the patient" is what Dr Morton does. He listens and doesn't dismiss his patients pain! I had my total hip replacement surgery 6 weeks ago and must say I woke up pleasantly surprised. The length of my incision was only 4 inches on the front side of my right hip. Very happy with it! No staples, surgical glue and very neat scar. The advantage of the direct anterior approach over traditional approaches is that an intermuscular, internervous tissue plane is used. This mean that rather than cutting muscles and tendons to access the hip joint, natural tissue planes are used, allowing the muscles to be moved, rather than cut. Surgery lasted a little over an hour, as soon as I woke up I noticed my old joint pain was gone! The pain I would have afterwards was typical post surgical pain of healing controlled by pain pills. Doctor Morton came to check on my incision few hours after surgery and then every morning till I was discharged from hospital. I was walking with a walker and doing light PT exercises same day after my hip replacement! First 2 weeks were the hardest and now it's better and better every day! I can't believe I'm going to have my life back and on top of that I have extended my life span by improving quality of my life. I'm only 44 but I was feeling like I was 90 due to my crippling hip pain. I can't thank enough Doctor Morton for giving me this gift, he is truly amazing surgeon of hip arthroscopy. I had my hip replaced by Dr. Morton in February of 2022. It is now 8 months and I have absolutely no problems with it. It is like surgery never happened except for some lingering numbness of the skin at the surgery site which is of no consequence to me. I came from Alaska for surgery in Hawaii because of Hawaii's Covid safe protocols and . . . . it was Hawaii - a good place to recover from surgery during the Alaska winter. After that decision, I needed to find a surgeon. I picked Dr. Morton because of his reviews, his use of robots, his Fellowship in hips and knees, and even his relative youth which seems a plus in a surgeon. I also knew through personal connections that he came from a really accomplished family. I am really glad I picked Dr. Morton. He is smart, innovative, gives you lots of time, and is a very pleasant person who expresses genuine concern for your well being. It is hard for a lay person to really evaluate a surgeon's skills but I have such a good outcome that he must have done a great job. I was enthusiastic about the robotic technique, having read glowing reviews of it in the NYT. It made sense to me that it would be more precise resulting in a better placed implant. I didn't expect I would be the first robotically implanted hip in the state of Hawaii and learning that during surgery prep was a bit jarring. As Dr. Morton says, it wasn't his first robotically implanted hip. I am sure there have been many since February so you don't have to worry about that. I am still in awe of being able to walk out of this surgery and into my rented condo with a walker 7 hours after my femur was sawed off. My initial 4 week recovery was miraculous. The Hawaii system of sending physical therapists and nurses to your house is awesome. I did have problems with pain at about 9 weeks that I never experienced in the first month. This was solved in one visit by a masseuse. Tendons and muscles which are stretched and stressed during surgery can cause that but a therapeutic massage solved it. Dr. Morton was also very helpful in evaluating my other hip, replaced 14 years ago by another doctor. He gave me a lot of good information about that situation and has taken a conservative approach. I feel confident in the long range plan he has laid out of once a year X-rays to evaluate both hips for any changes that would be of concern. My only caveat is that although Dr. Morton himself is very punctual and business-like, I think his office is a little out of control. They are wonderful warm people but not the efficiency and attention to detail you would expect in a surgeon's office although everything happened as it should in the end. He hasn't been in solo practice very long so I suspect this is something that will improve or perhaps I don't understand the Hawaii way of doing things. I highly recommend Dr. Morton. read more

I went to an orthopedic in the Waipio area by Costco area where they were to schedule my X-rays and MRI of my knees. I already had this done previously by another Dr. who also recommended sports rehab for my knees. As for the Dr. in Waipio he didn't do anything but from what I understand he billed HMSA for services not rendered. I called the office of Dr. Paul Morton and they scheduled the X-rays in the morning prior to my appointment. When seeing him I explained my situation and he gave me the shots in both of my knees that I needed. Both of my knees feel really great with very little discomfort unlike before. He is a fantastic Dr. that I will be seeing for life. I would highly recommend him for anyone having knee and hip pain and see what he can do for you. read more

This is a long overdue review! Dr. Morton took a look at my wrist because it had a huge lump that was steadily growing. It really concerned me because eventually it became painful to type on the computer or twist my wrist even just to write with a pen/pencil. He was super honest and shared his speciality is hips and knees... so he referred me to his equally talented practice partner Dr. Aimee Perreira whose speciality is hand and wrists. While some doctors are money centric by doing surgeries themselves by going outside their speciality, Dr. Morton did not do that (when he easily could have). He keeps the patient in mind by partnering them with his fellow practice partners that specialize in the area that the patient needs. I very highly recommend Dr Paul Morton, he explained my procedure in detail and told me what to be expected after the surgery and gave me the assurance that everything will be alright and not to worry and of course I felt assured. Very impressive doctor and can't say enough good things about him and the experience I've had so far! He truly takes the time to listen to you!! I was shuffled around to 2 other orthopedics due to complications. I was a bit skeptical at first as I have very high standards for all my doctors but I read his bio and was blown away by it. Bad experience, very forgetful. Went into the office for my knee on November 12, 2019 and It is now December 27 and I have heard NOTHING from him or his office. Not to mention it took a month for a 20 min MRI. I cant even rank them in the top 15 in the state.
