The best 5 days we have had in a long time. So worth every penny. The boat was spacious, warm and comfortable. We really enjoyed driving it, given it was was our first time on a boat we were suprised at how well it went. We learnt to open the locks ourselves quite quickly and the lock keepers were fantastic too if you don't want to open them yourselves. Highly recommended read more

During the slump of 2020 I decided to reach out to Paul at Jennifer's Travels to rent a barge three years out, something to keep our spirits high. We just came back from our AppleJack adventure and we loved every minute of it, it is adventure travel, and Paul taught us what we needed to know and we had a blast. We only saw two other boats in the canals moving along and the rest was just the 4 of us, birds, flowers, canal fish, and lovely peaceful times. In the evenings we hung out at the Fisherman's Thatched Inn and between time on the boat and time in the pub, we were very happy and felt included in a real Irish experience. We took the train from Dublin to the Monasterevin and you can easily walk to the boat from the train platform. We walked to the grocery store which is very good and brought groceries onto the boat. The kitchen is very well supplied and cooking for ourselves onboard was a fun experience. Take out can even be brought to the Fisherman's Inn address for meal drop off - we did this twice with ease. Trust this company, trust yourself to Captain the boat and work the Irish canal locks (with the lockmaster's and Paul's tutorial). Give your family an amazing and unique memory - Paul Wallace and AppleJack are stars! read more

My husband, two children and I hired Jelly Belly from Jennifer's Travels in late August for a once in a lifetime experience during our visit to Ireland from Australia (no canals in Oz you see!). We were onboard for a total of 4 nights and had a splendid time! The barge is quaint, but enough room for the 4 of us and well maintained. It has everything you could expect for a house boat on the canals. Paul was excellent with his induction concerning the barge and its use and we felt very comfortable venturing off on our own. August is a very busy time on the canals but the lock masters assisted us when they could. By the end of the 4 days we felt sure enough to be able to manage the lock's ourselves and ended the trip feeling very accomplished at our new learnt skill! The canals are narrow but full of beautiful and mostly untouched scenery. At times we felt completely alone and privileged to be experiencing such beauty amongst ourselves. Unfortunately one of the horizontal bridges became unsafe to use during our time on the canals which meant we couldn't get back to Monasteverin to return the barge but Paul happily met us up the canal to collect our things from the barge and even dropped us at our next mode of transport without any hesitation. Wonderful customer service. We would strongly recommend using Jennifer's Travels and we still can't stop talking about our awesome experience to this day. read more

I rented Paul's barge "Jellybelly" for a Grand canal, River Barrow excursion for a total of 6 nights. What a fantastic experience. Paul gave a very thorough tutorial on the boat and took us through a lock. We were then on our own! We operated most of the locks on our own although the lock keepers are available if you want to use them. The locals are also extremely ready to give a hand. Many folks had never seen them used and loved being a part of the experience. I would say that after about 3-4 hrs operating the Jellybelly you will feel completely at ease. The scenery was fantastic and the river was very relaxing. The Jellybelly is also fully equipped with a peat stove, cooktop, sink, shower, toilet, beds and a sitting area. Pubs and stores can be found along the way. The Jellybelly is narrower than some of the other rental barges that we encountered and we liked that! It is also the prettiest of the barges that we saw. Paul's professionalism and the Jellybelly made for a truly memorable trip. read more
