I happily drive over 90 mins for checkups etc. Seems to be a surgery in front of his house. Don't be surprised when you see a hand and a cup of tea appear through a window on your right hand side really high up. It's his wife. Small reception but they keep things in the appointment book tight so I have never seen it over crowded. Through to the Dr and he's full of chat. Again very funny as he's asking you questions while working away inside your mouth. Really enjoy my visits and not many people I know enjoy the Dentist. Also please don't fall for his Duck joke ie "Quack" and "Plaque".

In explanation, I was quoted 140 Euros for a filling in a dental practice in Sligo town two weeks ago. My son attended Dr McCaughey dental practitioner in Grange Sligo about three weeks previously and was singing his praises on his return home. I felt the quotation I received was excessive so I phoned my son's dentist Dr McCaughey and compared prices. I rang up two days ago and was quoted between 40 to 60 Euros depending on the size of the tooth. I requested an appointment and was offered one the very next day - efficient! When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly receptionist Teresa. I filled out a medical information form and waited to be seen. Dr McCaughey introduced himself to me and explained all options regarding the filling along with the pros and cons of what he advised. I found him to be very professional and respectful leaving the ultimate decision to me as the patient. I found his practice to be efficient, friendly, clean and reasonably priced when compared to town prices. The priced difference was a staggering 80 Euros (minimum for one filling) between dental practices in Sligo town and Grange - so just imagine how much the cost could be if you had alot of dental work to complete. It's a no brainer! In the end, I was charged 10 euros for the exam, 20 euros for x-rays and 30 euros for the filling as it was a much smaller job than anticipated. Dr McConaughey offered me free of charge 1) 75ml Kin Gingival Complex - mint flavour toothpaste, 2) 125ml KinB5 Gengivas toothpaste and 3) a pack of TePe interdental brush Angle to floss with. I noticed a previous customer left with the same freebies as I did. During our consultation he told me he works on a Saturday. This is most unusual as most dentists work Monday to Friday. Brian fitted me in on the Saturday morning, and I got fillings, which thankfully took away the pain. Brian is a gentleman, makes you feel at ease right away, and, more to the point, especially where I am concerned, as I have had a fear of Dentists since I was a child, he has taken away that fear, and I have no hesitation in getting a check-up now! I would recommend him to anyone looking for a brilliant professional and an all-round nice person!

So, I hit the internet and find great recommendations for Galway Dentists. I message them and they get back to be almost instantly and offer me a choice of three appointment times. Heck, I don't get that service back home in Nashville, USA! Google maps gets me there no problem, and I'm seen by Dr. O'Brien. She does a great job and fixes me right up for a very reasonable rate. I can't recommend this place enough! If you are a local, and you are using the "can't get an appointment" excuse to avoid getting your annual exam, you no longer have that excuse! :-) If you are in town from elsewhere and in need, look no further. TIP: Joyce's grocery, across the street from Galway Dentists, offers lots of first hour free underground parking.
