I'm giving this place 2 stars because there are some good things to say, but the negative is worth mentioning to warn others about my experience. Positive: Pumpkin cinnamon sugar donuts were served warm and tasted fresh. Very delicious! $8 for half dozen. They have a variety of canned/jars of goodies, such as pickles, jam, and salsa. I purchased one of each. They also had beautiful mums in a variety of sizes for various prices, including 3 for $20 for small, $20 medium, and $30 large. They also sell different sizes of pumpkins. This is why I have them 2 stars because at least this part of the visit went well. Negative: They had a small variety of warm (literally hot to the touch with steam coming from the bag) Dutch apple pies. They put them in a plastic bag (like their other goodies), so customers would assume they are homemade. Turns out, after paying more attention when I got home, the cut out cardboard paper that they had attached on top of the pie is the same pie as a frozen pie! Ugh! I included a photo of the pie I purchased and the frozen pie. Exact same pie! Please don't think that you are getting a fresh apple pie, like I did, nor think you are doing good supporting a small local business. Shame on them for false advertising! Save your $20 bucks and purchase your pie from a real legitimate bakery or another cider mill who bakes them fresh. There are plenty more cider mills available nearby that I would rather support, so unfortunately, I won't be returning here. read more

We've visited this farm stand a few times before and it's been okay in the past, but our most recent experience was shockingly unpleasant. Over the last couple of days, I noticed a sign advertising corn for $1 a bag. On the second day, I mentioned it to my husband and we decided to stop by and pick up some corn for dinner, along with a jar of their pickles (which we've liked before). At checkout, the total came to $19, which seemed way off since the pickles were $6.99 and the corn was clearly marked outside as $1 a bag. When I politely asked if the corn was still $1 a bag, the older man working the register became immediately defensive and rude. He snapped that the sign hadn't been taken down and that wasn't the correct price, then got confrontational out of nowhere. I was honestly stunned. I hadn't raised my voice or been rude--I was just confused. Then, to make things even more bizarre, he looked at my husband and said, "Just take the corn and get out of here. Your wife's giving me an ugly look." (I wasn't--it was pure shock.) We even offered to pay for both the corn and the pickles, but he refused to let us buy anything, took the pickles out of our hands, insisted we leave, and told us not to come back. This was by far the worst customer service I've ever encountered. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially when calmly asking about a price discrepancy. Sadly, even though they do have great pickles, we won't be returning and strongly suggest others avoid this place until they learn how to treat customers with basic respect. read more

The first time we came here the donuts and cider were good. Today we went and got a dozen raw donuts. They were all very undercooked. I took them home with hopes of air frying them to save what was left. I started putting them in the air fryer and noticed something black like a grain of rice. This mill & market is perfect for a beautiful late summer day trip! The beautiful landscaping, wide variety of products (we sampled the cider, donuts and pickles on site and loved them all), goats, horses and turkeys created a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere while we enjoyed our treats. Beautiful place! Lots of horses, turkeys, goats, and one dog, and the place was decorated for Halloween, which meant hay bale slides, wooden sculptures, and pumpkins. A variety of things to buy--more than I could list, but lots of salsas, pickles, flowers, jams, and fruits. We ordered cider, donuts, homemade "hot and sweet pickles," seasoned tortilla chips, and medium chunky salsa. The pickles were very good, and they had samples to taste. The cider was alright, but could have used extra spices for flavor. My only negative experience was the customer service; the older man who checked us out was quiet and abrasive, but it didn't impact our experience at all. Overall, a lovely place to go to! read more

If you live in AA you'll know how problematic the old man is (assuming he manages or owns the place). He's rude, their treatment of the animals are questionable, and they frequently sell frozen/grocery store items as "homemade." The ONLY reason I give them 2 stars is because they (unfortunately) have the best cider and donuts in AA. They don't offer cider slushies, hard cider, or caramel apples, so just come here for the cider/donuts. If you want to buy jams, honey, pickles, etc. shop somewhere else! read more

We went for some warm apples. It's kind of hard to find this time of year at Cidermill as I thought they all used to be warm but maybe not anymore. Lots of negative reviews, most centered around their inconsistent/grumpy service, but we had a different experience on this August weekend. I think it helps to appreciate this is first/foremost a family owned and run farm. That is relentlessly hard, and often under-appreciated, work. I imagine there are days when machinery breaks down, an animal becomes ill, the weather ruined a crop or a harvest day, a patron broke/stole something, a family/employee can't go to work... Being mid-August (before the apple picking season) I was worried they might not yet be open (some orchards in fact were not). I called and got the infamous grumpy old man. Despite elevated voices we still had a hard time understanding each other but I was able to interpret that they were open. When we arrived there were only 3 other cars present. No donuts were being made so I asked the first employee I spotted, an older female, if they could still be had that day. She promptly asked, how many! Realizing they were about to make a fresh batch just for us, I said half a dozen! We have tried donuts from 4-5 cider/orchards within a 10 mile radius of Dexter / Ann Arbor over the years and while the Dexter Cider mill gets the most crowds and has the nicest venue, Jenny's has always had THE best fresh fried cake donuts (myself and company ALL concurred). They're small, airy, super crisp on the outside (a critical key to a proper apple cider donut) and dusted with brown sugar. At other localities the donuts have sat in bags... even just 30 minutes ruins the crisp/tender contrast. I was so happy they fired up the fryer. In less than 10 minutes we had our donuts. My friends also bought several potted mums upon seeing a large display in every color. Jenny's indoor mini farmer's market has all kinds of produce as well as bottled goodies, including various honeys, preserves, and pickled goods. Another friend bought some strawberry-rhubarb jam and a half-gal of cider. There's ample free parking in the gravel/grass/dirt lots. Would return in a heartbeat. read more

The people who run Jenny's Farmer's Market are strange and rude. I was chatting with the fellow working there and I mentioned I'm from Traverse City. He told me that he doesn't like people from TC because some farmer from there sold him some bad cherries. Then he asked me if I was going to buy the produce in my hand. You insult your customer and then ask if they're going to buy from you? Bizarre. I walked out. In a separate incident, my girlfriend stopped by and the same fellow started talking to her about his political views even though she didn't ask. He talked about his love for Trump, how liberals are out to get him, and other ramblings. She tried to leave but he blocked her path and wouldn't let her leave. It felt like harassment and she was only there to try and buy flowers. She eventually got out of there, thank god. Jenny's is awful. Please don't go there. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible owner. Toxic, the worst, abusive to animals, employees, and customers. The owner threatened me because I opened an egg carton of eggs I was buying to see if they were cracked, he got so extremely pissed off that I would even thought it was okay to just open the carton and give a quick check. He escalated so instantly it was shocking, without saying anything back I started to walk away rather than buy the over priced items I had picked. That made him even more pissed and he demanded I buy the 4 jars I placed on the counter, I said, that's okay, no thank you. He seriously kept yelling, saying you have a bad attitude, I kept walking, he was pretty scary. He kept yelling as I walked away and demanded that I come back and return the items to the shelf, only he said it cussing at me. I seriously thought the guy might literally physically pursue me and I wasn't waiting around to find out. Thank God I hadn't even got to the point of payment before I left. I have found out now that he has been sued for beating his animals. read more

My wife and I visited Jenny's Farm Stand because Dexter Cider Mill was closed. We knew nothing of Jenny's before going in. The owner was indeed a bit surly but not overtly rude. My immediate impression was, "Oh, so Dexter has its own 'soup Nazi.'" Maybe he's Dexter's "cider Nazi," given other reviewers' allegations of racism, but we saw nothing of that in our visit. I am white and my wife is African American and he didn't direct anything our way that remotely smelled racist. There were a number of other African American patrons apparently enjoying their visit and the owner carried on a pleasant conversation with an Asian woman. So if he is a bigot, he must have forgotten to put on his Archie Bunker hat that day. We bought several items: cider, "pumpkin" donuts, pickles, eggs, maple syrup, and salsa. The cider, pickles, and salsa, were delicious. The eggs were, well, eggs. The donuts were mediocre. Being sold 75 yards from a pumpkin patch was probably the closest they'd ever been to an actual pumpkin. The maple syrup was as watered down as a stripper's vodka tonic. Looking up information on Jenny's after our visit, my wife and I were distressed to learn of the owner's conviction on animal abuse charges and his long, dramatic history with local authorities. That was enough to clinch it for us - we can't possibly patronize a business with this kind of a record. We'll stick to Dexter Cider Mill from now on. read more

Great apple cider donuts, good and hot! Cider was fantastic. A great assortment of home-jarred delicacies --- we got hot and spicy pickle chips, marinated mushrooms, beets, etc. and all were very good. The candles they sell smell nice when unlit (Pine Scent) but once we lit it there was no hint of the pine scent odor. The animals look like they've seen better days and I really do think the days of petting zoos should come to an end. The horses looked tired and ill-fit to pulling carts (although I did not see them pulling any carts while I was there). It's a great spot to stop in with the kids in the fall. Hay tower is perfect for the little kids, while the bigger kids and adults might like a hayride. Pick out a pumpkin and know you aren't getting hosed on the price, unlike going to Wiards. First mistake was reading the reviews and not listening. My boyfriend and I were in the area and once we got here we could tell it looked like a crap hole. Bathrooms are absolutely disgusting for one. We pet one of the pony's, it was so scared of us and looked miserable. We have worked on horse farms before, we know what it usually smells like.. but what it smelled like there was somehow even worse. None of the other animals would come to us, it seems like there are mistreated. In the store you can smell the rotting wood under the floor boards. I just wanted to share my utterly disappointing experience with Jenny's Farm Stand & Cider Mill in Dexter. We went there last weekend and forgot/lost my son's water bottle and stuffy including a bracelet with an emotional value that was wrapped around the stuffy. Once home I realized I had forgotten those items and I called right away. I had a woman on the phone who said she has both things. Phew, I thought. I didn't get a chance to tell her that we won't be able to come and pick it up right away. We don't live close by. Before I could say anything she already hung up on me. I found it rude that she hung up, but I thought, she must be busy. So, whatever. We planned to pick up our belongings a week later and I called them again to make sure our belongings are still there. The person on the phone said our items were no longer where they used to be, and she does not know where they went. She didn't make any attempt, to resolve the issue or trying to figure out, where they put our belongings. She said the woman who was there last weekend is not working today. I asked her, if she can maybe text her and she said she doesn't have her number and hung up on me. I tried to call again but she just picked up and hung up right away. Next day, I called again (as you can see, I really wanted our belongings back, mostly because of the bracelet. It's a gift from my MIL). I was told the woman who confirmed she had our belongings should be working today. This time, a man picked up the phone and was very rude from the beginning. He didn't let me explain just said "What do you want" and when I said I was trying to explain that I lost.. he interrupted me and said again "What do you want. I have no time! I have doughnuts to make" and hung up. I called again 5 minutes later. This time, I had a woman on the phone. It turned out it was the same woman who confirmed a week age that she had our items. She just said they were no longer here and that they don't keep stuff. I tried to explain that I DID call last week so she should have assumed I care about the items but she hung up on me while I was still talking. This is not how you treat your customers, Jenny's Farm Stand & Cider Mill! It's so disrespectful! I definitely won't take my kids to a place like this anymore. Also, I am reading now all those negative comments from other people and about all the lawsuits of animal cruelty. It looks so nice from the outside. Horrible service. We witnessed the owner being extremely rude to a family ahead of us. The mother had very politely ordered something that he didn't have. He yelled at her, told her she was holding up the line, and that she needed to "hurry up". She walked out flustered, and he continued to harass her teenage daughter. We were shocked. When it was our turn, we tried to be as quick as possible to avoid the same fate. It turns out he has about a 3-second window before he gets angry, and sure enough, told us we needed to hurry up because we were holding up the line. We tried to rush through our *simple* request and he continued to yell at us. We asked for our money back to which he replied "I don't give a shit. You see how much business I've got? I don't need your money." Keep in mind this man was previously on probation for animal neglect, which he now profits off of with his petting zoo, and he said it himself. He doesn't care about your business, your money, or your experience. I grew up in MI but live in CA now. My wife and I were visiting last week and stopped at Jennys. I had been there a lot growing up and wanted to share that experience with her. I couldn't believe Jenny's had the star rating it did, then I remembered that Ann Arbor was full of liberal knuckleheads who are overly sensitive. That aside... If you want to experience a postcard-esque perfect fall day, a visit to Jenny's is the place to do it. It's been there forever, and they do it right. From the super cheap pick your own pumpkins ($5 each), the huge selection of jams, jellies, butters, syrups, and other canned goods, to the biggest draw of all-the freshly made cinnamon donuts and warm or cold cider. Honestly, the best cider I have had. Ever. And the donut is right up there. **Contrary to what some bitter, angry, liberal goober put on their review, these donuts ARE NOT from GFS. I included a picture of their donut making room. We literally watched the owner droop batter into grease, shake, and bag for us.** Jenny's has tons for kids-wagons, a HUGE hay pile/maze, animals, and room to safely run around in. And of course cider and donuts. **Other silly Ann Arbor people misconceptions-1)The hay is not haphazardly stacked on itself-its a steel reinforced frame with bales stacked on it. It is NOT a fire hazard (have you ever tried to light a bay of soaking wet, thickly packed hay? Obviously not) 2)The animals all looked very clean and happy. Adequate room to move around in. They did not look distressed or miserable. So clearly another fabrication by an ultra-hyper group who must have saw the owner smush a fly buzzing around in the shop.** They are well known for their horse drawn carriage and hay rides, I did that once probably 20+ years ago and only have fond memories. I realize there has been some press regarding this subject. I do not know if they are still run or not, so will not comment. I do not know the owner that well, but I've heard stories. He seems to be quite the lightning rod, and obviously the scapegoat or savior depending on what camp you are in (seems a lot of AA is in the former). Is he a bit cantankerous? Sure! Can he come off initially as a little gruff, a little bothered? Absolutely! But maybe all these idiots bashing him and making things up over the past 30 years is the biggest reason for that. I can tell you that within a few minutes of talking with him, he warmed, and was very open, friendly, and likeable. He clearly cares for his place, his animals, and the products he sells. A trip to his place really makes for a great day, so don't let a few of these bad apples (or pumpkins?) make you think otherwise. read more

Jenny's has the BEST donuts out of any cider mill I have been to in Michigan and Ohio. Their donuts are the freshest and served warm. They roll the donuts in sugar right before they serve them to you! The horses they have are beautiful and friendly to people. They have a ton of different home made pickles, jelly, mushrooms, syrup, candles, popcorn, and sweets. They offer a great pumpkin selection and don't charge you an arm and a leg for the pumpkins. While this place reeks of family fun, it is also a place where the very smart grown 'n sexy can get their grub on because they want to eat the best donuts EVER. Sit your butt on that white porch swing overlooking the stagnant water pond, eat their donuts from a bag, and then take huge swigs of apple cider along with it. I know that sounds a bit wholesome, but it's what I did with my friend for her birthday and even though we are grown folk who like to party we still had a good time. Granted there were bees swarming around us and the horses taking poops near our heads, but it just added comedy to the atmosphere. Jenny's donuts, straight out of the deep fryer, is inexplicable goodness that you absolutely will not believe until you actually eat it. These donuts literally melt in your mouth. They are best eaten right away. They also sell honey crisp apples during the summer -- honey crisps, as we discovered on NPR -- taste exactly like their name. The next time we went, there were goats and baby goats walking around -- a level of cuteness that is almost unbearable. This is a nice contrast to the bar scene. I wouldn't crawl into their castle made of bale hay or anything, but I definitely would drive ten miles out of my way for some tasty treats. If you've got a little bro or sis, some play cousins, a shorty maybe... it's also a good place to take them because they have things like hay rides and donut making. My hubby and I came in to get donuts to go and an older gentleman said it would be a 10 minute wait which was no problem. Their donuts are delicious and worth the wait. So we looked around and grabbed some other stuff. My hubby saw a cow bell on the counter and rang and said it was cool. The older gentleman gave my hubby the look of death. I told my hubby not to do that cuz the older gentleman seemed very annoyed. A little later my hubby smoked his head on the above counter sign(he's 6'4). The owner asked if we needed anything else and my hubby said a higher sign cuz he hit his head. The older gentleman said why don't you look where you're going? Then the older gentleman said why don't you sue me for half a mil. Then he tried to back track and say you will like this food, thanks for stopping in. Most likely he said this due to the look of disapproval on our faces. He was very rude and argumentative. If you're having a bad day or life that's ok, but leave that attitude behind before you work with customers. Not really sure why he was acting this way but we are an interracial couple and looking over the past reviews shows that could have been a possible motivation. Part of me wants to tell everyone to get out there ASAP and check this place out before they get sued and go out of business, and the rest of me wants to WARN YOU AWAY!!!!! Let's just say that they probably ought to make you sign a waiver before you go on the hayride. With no warning whatsoever, not even a glance to make sure people were sitting down, our teenage chariot driver wound the two horses and our flat-bed wagon through the parking lot and THEN THE HORSES GALLOPED UP A HILL. Thank god one of the other riders (victims?) warned me as I had my toddler with me and I'd planned to let my 10 year old niece hold her. Instead, my husband held the baby in the center of the wagon, and I held my niece! It was quite the thrill. And then it was actually pretty scary and went on and on while I wondered when the horses were going to run again and/or throw us off. On the way back, someone commented on how one of the horses was braking, and we were informed about how the horse's legs had actually slid out from under her. We also heard a lovely anecdote about horse shit flying up into the wagon and covering the riders (our ride just featured some up close BM action from both of our stallions). We went through the parking lot on the way back with the driver screaming at pedestrians and drivers to make way for our careening hay wagon, and then juuuust at the end the horses spooked and the wagon shook so much most of us fell over. It doesn't get more 'authentic' then that! Since a driver was nearly paralyzed falling off the hayride a month ago, and the same day we were there a child was taken away by ambulance for falling off one of the ponies (SERIOUSLY - you let a 22 month old on a pony?!!!) this place is ripe for a major lawsuit. Get in there fast if you want a crazy hay ride experience! Or if you're a lawyer looking for some sweet legal action. Parents, do not expect this place to offer appropriate child-friendly options and make wise choices. Also, dude, those portajons needed to be replaced about 2 months ago. Yowza. I don't have kids so I know nothing about whether or not the hay maze is safe. We got our pumpkin here this year but I will never return. They offer jellies, jams, breads, pastas, pies and other cute items however I will never spend another penny here. Why? Because after buying our pumpkin we walked to see the animals and were shocked by the deplorable conditions in which they are kept. Something needs to be done. If you cannot provide clean conditions for animals, you shouldn't have animals. Period. Several of the animals were mean, I assume because they are so miserable. I have warm fuzzy feelings about Jenny's since this is the place I snorgled a newborn goat last year (wearing a doggie sweater no less!) and we had some fun frolicking about the hay bale mountain and picking out huge pumpkins. So there is no shortage of fall fun here at Jenny's. You want apples and baked goods? They've got 'em. Cider? Check. Silly photo ops? Done (like the massive hay roll scarecrow at the side of the road). Petting farms with chickens roaming around and goats aplenty? Yep. It is pretty much the perfect fall outing spot for kids and adults alike. So why am I giving this 2 stars? Well, I was a bit saddened by the horses this time around. I'm a huge animal lover so I have mixed feelings on petting farms, pony rides, hay rides, etc. On one hand I love being able to interact with these animal and I think chickens being able to roam around is a lot better than keeping them in 2x2 cages. On the other hand, it can be a rough life dealing with all those people, potentially small coops, etc. So I'm torn. But I've been lucky that all of the farms I've been to have provided really great treatment to their animals and they've seemed dedicated to their critters. In the past Jenny's was no exception. Sweaters on their goats, free range chickens, lots of space for roaming around for the horses. Everything I've seen at Jenny's up till a few weeks ago left me feeling great about them. But unfortunately when I checked them out this fall I saw that the horses pulling the hay rides were a cut up on the legs and yet they were still pulling the rides. I couldn't help but get really really sad and disappointed about that. I know hay rides are an integral part of the fall business but I would hope that the welfare of the animals comes first. Maybe a day or two of rest for these guys and some TLC could help them heal up. I don't know. What I do know is that I just can't get enthusiastic about Jenny's anymore after seeing that. Which is such a shame because I used to think it was a 5 star joint and one of my favorite fall stops. read more
