I stumbled into the salon back in October of 2012 on the hunt for someone to do my wedding hair and makeup - lo and behold, Marda was amazing! I did call ahead to schedule an appointment with her, and in addition to my wedding hair/make up consultation, I also asked her for a trim. We then laid down plans to execute my hair and makeup. I was a very laid back bride and gave Marda very little to go on - "Sure, whatever you think will look good.. I kinda want a side updo curly thing with this birdcage veil and uhhh, I want to GLOW golden for my photos" was about the extent of what I communicated to her. I ran late to my appointment ('poor time management' was of course the culprit.. it was my wedding day and needless to say I was running around a lot!) and Marda had literally cleared a block of time for me and was very gracious about my schedule. She set to work on my hair, accommodated both my birdcage veil and my vintage barrette, plus worked around my photographer and my phone calls and my whitening strips, etc. etc. Basically, she rocked. She's also incredibly affordable, generous of her time and energy, and a warm person to spend time with. Marda made me feel confident & beautiful throughout the whole day. Jen is also fun (they were in the midst of battling with the phone company about a static-y line and I appreciate the banter), and all the regulars of the salon made me feel so at home (they were complimenting me left and right - talk about ego boost!!), which was great for my wedding considering that we only visit the area about 5-6 times per year and I definitely needed the encouragement and familiarity. We had the pleasure of working with Marda to fix up my hair for our wedding in Arnold. Marda was able to do my hair (bride), my matron of honor, mother of the bride, and mother of the groom's hair! As any bride knows, after the dress, the hair and makeup are next on your list of important things to figure out. We were getting married in Arnold, CA, at the Black Bear Inn, we live 3 hours away in the Bay Area and as much as I love my Bay Area stylist, affording for her to travel those 3 hours, was not in the budget. So, I turned to Yelp and started reading. That is when I read a review by another bride that was recently married at the Black Bear Inn. She was singing the praises of Marda, I felt a kindred spirit with this bride, coupled with her lovely photos, I immediately called Marda. Marda was fantastic right from the get go. We scheduled a trial run for hair and makeup and all was set for the big day. On the wedding day, Marda arrived on schedule and set to work on my aunt, sister, mum and lastly, me. Everyone loved the time they spent in Marda's chair, as she effortlessly chatted away and made everyone look fabulous. The promised post-wedding update - Marda did a great job on my hair and makeup. It was exactly what I was looking for - classy, not too much, and I still looked like me. The shop handled five bridal party, my mom, and my niece, with no problems - one of the bridal party even got a manicure and pedicure. They shut down the shop for us so guests could come and go as they pleased, which was super fun. They let us bring in drinks and snacks to sustain us - all in all, it was a great experience. Can't say anything but great salon!!!! Jen cuts my whole families hair, I have long hair and she always does just what I ask never to much off! This is the second time I've been in Murphys and I'm glad I walked with my boyfriend and his mother to Frogtooth Winery! We passed the shop on our way to taste some wine when I saw that they offered ear piercings, which I've been wanting to have done again since my closed up more than 5 years ago. After tasting wine I walked in and asked about it, I was told $15-$20 depending on the studs I chose, not bad at all! I wasn't able to get an appointment to get them done on Thursday but I was told the girl would be in on Friday, so I planned to come back and have it done when we all came back to downtown Murphys Friday afternoon. Friday comes, we walk around to kill time then head to the salon. Waited no more than 5 minutes as she was busy with someone else, then sat in the chair, picked my studs (little gold hearts with fake diamonds in the middle, super cute!) then BAM! They were in. The only thing is that there wasn't a big selection of studs to choose from but I can understand if very few people come in to get it done, it would be a wasted investment. Very happy they had these heart studs as their $15 studs are just gold and silver balls. The $20 studs are ones with little stones in them but they are tiny! The salon was very nice inside, nice array of jewelry to choose from, able to get manicures (I'm curious about this!) and the girls were very sweet the whole time. read more

They saved me when my other salon canceled my bridesmaid's appointments. She was extremely helpful and was able to book four barely a week in advance. The salon is in beautiful downtown Murphy's right next to the candy shop. They are new and really helped us out. They did a great job at everyone's hair. They did great at my mom's short hair and did great at my bridesmaids long hair. They did two of my girls make-up and one was awesome. The four stars is because one of the bridesmaids make-up was too dark and really splotchy. We had to redo the make-up before the wedding. The bridesmaid that they did really well brought in her own make-up and the bridesmaid that used their make-up did not turn out so well, so it could just be best to bring your own make-up. Other than that, the salon was super friendly and did an absolutely wonderful job on the hair. read more

I'm a "local" and I love going to Jenz --- for my hair and for my nails --- Jen is excellent with my color and her haircuts are awesome! You know it's a good haircut if your hair still looks good when you've "put off" getting it cut again! AND...no matter why I stop by this salon, I'm made to feel welcome and know I'm getting excellent, professional care!
