We hired Jeremy in Chicago, and he is absolutely the best event photographer in Chicago. He is professional, flexible, and beyond talented. His style is very particular, which I see as a good thing-- your photos will look like art, not just like anyone else's photos. Moreover, his prices are completely in line with those of other photogs in Chicago-- even less than several we interviewed! Back in September 2013, we needed our engagement photos quickly to produce save-the-dates and Jeremy delivered. We loved every shot he gave us and are constantly finding ways to use the pictures in new ways. Too, too many of the shots from our August 31 wedding are breathtaking. We were looking for creative photos to capture the moments and emotion of our day, and that's exactly what we got. Not to mention, Jeremy has a quick eye and efficient style, so we got a ton of great shots around the city prior to the wedding starting, quickly got some necessary family portraits out of the way and were able to spend more time with our guests. He seamlessly blended in during the event even capturing a bunch of quirky moments we wouldn't otherwise have known about. Some of our favorite pictures are actually of our guests on the dance floor busting out their dance moves! Jeremy and his team were a blast to work with. From the initial meeting through scheduling our engagement shoot (had to reschedule multiple times due to weather) and leading up to our wedding, everything was very professional and timely. If I could give Jeremy a 6 I would, hell I'd give him a 10. Jeremy shot out wedding in June at A New Leaf and he did an AMAZING job. We also did engagement photos (only a few weeks before the wedding since we'd been procrastinating!) and they were so so unique and cool. We got so many compliments from family and friends about how they are the most unique and beautiful wedding photos they'd ever seen. He goes the extra mile to get an interesting shot- like standing in the middle of oncoming traffic!! :) His second photographer also did a fantastic job at our wedding. I have only met Jeremy a couple of times and have never used him for my own personal photography, but I am madly in love with his work. He shot the 2011 calendar for my dog rescue, One Tail at a Time, and did more than a phenomenal job. He really knows how to get the good pictures - color, lighting, composition. It's all there. There weren't too many things my husband and I were sure of when we first started to plan our wedding, but the one thing we knew we had to have was beautiful wedding photos. Jenny Elwick is a fantastic photographer, and an absolute joy to work with. She shot our wedding, and the pictures we got are just beautiful. And she's so much fun! We took a bunch of pictures before the wedding, and it was a great way to get ready for the "main event." Jenny even documented our trip to Walgreens, with me in my big white dress. We had such a good time running around the city that we were happy and relaxed for the wedding. Jenny got great shots of me and my husband, but also of our guests. She was able to capture moments that we wouldn't have seen otherwise, and they are some of our favorites. Her shot of my husband's parents slow dancing is so lovely. BRAXTON BLACK is AMAZING! We were beyond thrilled with Braxton!! He's incredibly talented, his work is awesome and he's just the most fun, sweet guy to hang out with! Not only did my husband and I love him (and of course his photography), everyone at our wedding was raving about him too! My husband is an amateur photog and knows a lot of the technicalities. Prior to our wedding he interviewed several photographers, and hands down felt Braxton blew all the others out of the water! Braxton really knows photography and is very artistic, but also very open minded, flexible and receptive to who he's working with. He had plenty of great ideas, but welcomed ours as well. Braxton's assistant Alice was great also! They made quite a team, capturing us and our wedding so well. They worked hard and always with a smile or a joke. Please note that this review is not based on their photography skills... While wedding planning we looked high and low for a quality wedding photographer. We thought we found them in Jeremy Lawson Photography. Jeremy was unavailable the day of our event but he recommended one of his associates, Braxton. We had a conference call with Braxton and we felt we clicked. He understood our wedding vision and what type of services we were hoping to capture on our big day. We are having a small wedding (very low key) and Braxton was totally accommodating. We set up a plan and were excited to move forward. However, that's when things started to go awry. Braxton sent us a quote to which we agreed. We did not question his pricing at all. We did have reservations about paying for everything up front - as most places I reached out to only required a deposit and the rest of the payment after the event (upon receiving prints). We discussed this with Braxton and he agreed that we could pay a 50% deposit and pay the remaining balance upon receiving the prints. Our main complaint is with their office manager Jarrod. He was responsible for writing up the contract. He sent us the original contract but the information was incorrect. It did not reflect the change in payment plans that we had discussed and agreed to with Braxton. We asked that Jarrod make the correction to reflect our agreement accurately. Braxton apologized for the oversight and agreed that the contract needed to be corrected. Jarrod sent us a revised contract - but still not all of the information was correct. We pointed this out and asked them to revise it - Jarrod agreed and sent it back fully correct. We then signed the contract and emailed it back and mailed out our 50% deposit. We emailed the contract back on a Friday. On Tuesday we asked if we could receive the signed contract back from them - for our records. An hour and a half later we received an email from Jarrod stating that they no longer would fulfill our contract as they felt that we were untrusting of them and frustrated with them. Apparently in that hour and a half window they were able to hold "several meetings" to determine that they were not going to finalize the contract with us. As wedding planning is a stressful time and we were about to spend thousands of dollars on their services - I don't believe that asking for an ACCURATE contract shows distrust or frustration. Again we looked forward to working with Braxton but unfortunately Jarrod messed it up. read more

I will start with I am a very laid back bride (like picked venue in May for Oct wedding, DJ in August, would have been fine if I didn't have time to find a florist). That said, the one thing I researched and cared about was the photographer (you know I took a few photography classes 15 years ago in high school... so I'm pretty much a professional and have a high bar). I looked at~5 different studios in Chicago and narrowed it to 2. When I spoke with Jeremy (and then Braxton shortly thereafter), it became a pretty easy decision. They are extremely easy to work with and get to know you so they can work to tell your story through how they frame photos etc. I ended up deciding to go with Braxton after looking at his portfolio. While they all have beautiful and impressive portfolios, his style is closer to our personalities (spontaneous, fun). He takes unique pictures that you will enjoy for a lifetime. You spend a lot of time with your photographer on the day of your wedding so choose wisely. He is someone we would hang out with a grab a beer with so spending the entire day with him was easy. He is open to feedback if something feels awkward and has great ideas for where to shoot/how to frame shots. He is a really talented photographer and I would highly recommend him! read more

My wife told me a while ago that she would like to have our photos taken by a professional photographer so we could make an album with the two of us. I wasn't very interested in the idea, but I wanted to make her happy and we decided to give it a try. My sister told me about Jeremy Lawson Photography and we made an appointment. If we had chosen any other photographer, I know I couldn't have done it, but Jeremy is a real professional. He knew how to make us feel comfortable and confident, the studio was very resourceful and innovative, and his two assistants were very nice and friendly. Seriously, Jeremy has the best candid shots of anyone I've ever seen. I love his editorial, yet romantic style; his composition is fucking flawless. My husband and I love to be creative and Jeremy was right there with us. We did this awesome engagement shoot with animal heads and it was crazy fun-- his partner Jared even jumped in at the last minute to help us! Too sweet. At our wedding, Jeremy was a rock. He guided us through the photos that day with grace and humor. He even knew that Dan and I hadn't thought about how to actually cut the cake (when have people ever really cut into a 3-tiered cake before?) and immediately helped us through it. Jeremy definitely has a unique style, and if you want to run far, far away from that more "traditional modern" look that a lot of wedding photos have nowadays, spend the money and hire Jeremy. Jeremy agreed to shoot our daughter's baptism this past Sunday. He was shooting a wedding the night prior so talk about being a trooper to travel to our place the next day! The plan was to arrive at 11:15 am and ON THE DOT at 11:15 we get a call. Even family members who were hanging out at our place prior to heading to the church mentioned that it was a "really good sign" that a vendor was that prompt and exact. As for Jeremy himself, he was so wonderful to work with - VERY PERSONABLE, VERY ACCOMMODATING and his bubbly personality was infectious. He asked me some directional questions and was extremely flexible with our madhouse/circus like environment. He provided some great suggestions for some shots, was conversational and friendly and was shooting tons of pictures during our whirlwind of a baptism from getting ready to the actual event. The church was chaotic, the priest had given some instructions regarding photography that were clearly disregarded by other baptism families so it was a total picture free for all. Jeremy rolled with the punches and was so patient! I'm confident that he got some really great photojournalistic pictures of our event. I could not be happier with how the day went and cannot wait to see the final product. Jeremy was very good about letting me know about timing and logistics when I could expect to see my final product. In summary, I really enjoyed how straightforward his communication skills were and can only hope that he enjoyed photographing our memorable event that we can never have back! I highly recommend anyone engaged or considering portraits/event photography to reach out to Jeremy. For my parents, I put the flowers from their tribute chairs in Lake Michigan. Deciding on wedding photography for my wife and I seemed like it would be one of the toughest decisions we made. Neither of us are really that big on taking posed photographs, and neither of us are really that thrilled about being photographed in general. I really had one requirement for our wedding photos and that was I didn't want to know that a photographer was there. I didn't want an overabundance of canned / staged poses and pictures. I was more looking for him to be able to blend into the background, but still be able to produce high quality shots and capture the true feeling of the night. I must say that he exceeded my expectations here. When we had to have formal poses Jeremy was quick, efficient and got what he needed. For our pictures before the ceremony he was on point and able to direct our limo driver to all the locations he had spent time scouting. The places he selected for us were a prefect reflection of both my wife's and my personalities and styles. Also I should note that our particular day was a it hot out and at the end the party started to fade. He was gracious enough to pay for a literal box of water bottles from a restaurant on the side of the street to help refuel our party. I am not the type of person who enjoys getting their picture taken, but with Jeremy I didn't even know I was even being photographed. Our package included a session to take engagement photos which was a huge help in getting to know Jeremy and his shooting style. In the end I could not recommend Jeremy enough to anyone looking for a photographer who is kind and professional and just basically takes some bad ass pictures. read more

Jeremy and Jenny did our engagement shoot all around SF and captured shots of us and the city that blew away our expectations. We picked a handful of our favorite locations and stopped for 10-15 min at each one. Along they way, their creative minds picked out a structure or some street art that they knew would make for a great shot. We got tons of compliments on our engagement pics. They also shot our wedding which was in a different city, but again, they did a knockout job and we would recommend them to anyone who wants a creative, while also comprehensive, set of photos from their wedding. Also important, Jeremy and Jenny are super nice and professional. They invest the time to get to know the couples they work with and get a lot of referrals. Man, where do I even start with this guy? I feel like I'll have better luck coming up with something that hasn't already been said over on the Hot Doug's page. When my wife and I were budgeting our wedding, we did what everyone says to do- take what's important to you, focus on that, and skimp everywhere else. For me it was the open bar; for her it was photography. As usual, she was more right. I feel like Jeremy could have charged double and still been worth every penny. We've argued over whether he was the sixth groomsmen or sixth bridesmaid. Seriously, I feel like he made our day what it was- to the point that it was 45% us, friends, and family, and 55% Jeremy. As mentioned, if you look at his website you see that he is brilliant in capturing who each individual couple is, that he'll totally capture the uniqueness of you. But it doesn't really show how much FUN he is to have around. From our first meeting, to the dinner before the big day, where he gave us like 12 ideas that we never would have thought of yet totally used (e.g. getting frisbees for the lawn at our reception, which everyone loved playing with, or handkerchiefs for the groomsmen- it was hot! Saved the day), to the day itself, we felt like he was our oldest and dearest friend, not a vendor. I think I neglected to catch up with people at the reception who I haven't seen in years, because I wanted to hang out with and talk to Jeremy and his assistant Braxton the whole time. If you want awesome photos, you can probably get them with a handful of photographers. If you want an awesome experience, from start to finish, real, actual help in planning and executing the wedding (which if you haven't figured out yet, is sort of a pain in the ass), and an all around delight of a friend to capture everything, hire Jeremy. read more

Of all the decisions that I made about my wedding, the one I am happiest about to this day (other than my husband, of course.) was choosing to work with Jeremy Lawson. He is an unbelievably talented photographer and a true joy to work with. Jeremy was based in Chicago at the time, but was able to fly out to San Francisco to do our engagement shoot and I was blown away by how well he captured both the city and our relationship. His energy and passion for the San Fran area combined with his ability to capture the real emotion and joy in an engagement/wedding day shoot make Jeremy and unbelievable addition to your wedding experience. not much more to say about jeremy than has already been said. his photographs have perfectly captured our day and are even better than i could have imagined. beyond his talents, he is a total professional. he was on time for every meeting we scheduled and didn't even flinch when my husband's mother, who suffers from dementia, threw a fit during our 2-minute family photograph session. he made sure we got everything done in a timely manner and still managed to get some amazing shots. having him as a photographer was the best decision i made when i came to my wedding. read more

I knew Jeremy would photograph my wedding years before I was even engaged. I saw his work after an acquaintance used him for her wedding. I (and my now husband) were impressed to say the least. We used Jeremy's associate Braxton Black for our wedding photographer, and we could not have been more pleased! We did both engagement and wedding pics with him, and we loved both so much. My wedding pictures are everything I wanted, and photography was important to me. Braxton has such an artistic eye and none of my pictures looked posed or unnatural.
