A few friends highly recommended Mansfield Hollow Lake (boat launch), so we made the drive to Mansfield. We were not disappointed! The parking area, in front of the lake, is large, and easy to find a space to park, even on summer weekends. It's easy to get in and launch a kayak or paddleboard from the shallow shore area. The lake itself is clean and beautiful! I love the fact that swimming in the lake is not allowed (because this lake supplies drinking water) and that motorboats must maintain a speed of 5 mph or less. We haven't yet kayaked in any other lakes, but I'm sure that Mansfield Hollow Lake (boat launch) will remain a favorite of ours. Such a beautiful place!

A nice place to see…read more the sea As the name implies, Ocean View Park is a park right on the ocean. Actually over looking the ocean would be a better description because it's located way up on one of the many high bluffs that make up Block Island. The island is a terminal moraine, a gift from the last ice age when the glacier scraped up strata and other older material from the bottom of the ocean and dumped it here when the glacial started melting. The bluffs and boulders are the only thing that keeps the island from being reclaimed by Poseidon. Even though Ocean View Park is only a ten or fifteen minute walk from Old Harbor and the ferry landing, virtually no one goes here except some local people to eat lunch. That's because it's hidden off to the side of a dead end road and is difficult to see. One of those places you have to know exactly where to look. The park has a cool gazebo thing, a few benches, a small board way and of course great views of the ocean. It's not really large enough for a long walk and up too high for easy access to the water; it's more of a place to just relax, look at the water or eat lunch. On the south side of the park some interesting foundations and ruins of buildings can be seen. I have asked about them but have received various stories about their origins. Makes for an interesting discussion but it also makes me wonder if anyone really knows. One person told me they are the remains of an old farm house that burned down and another delineated a long tale about a hotel that got destroyed in a hurricane. Someone else told an interesting but very questionable story about the Manisses Tribe building the structure to hold weapons for war. As with most things, who knows what the truth really is. A cool little park that is a great place for a quick bite to eat, a great view of the ocean or have some fun digging around in some old ruins. A nice place to see the sea.

I've been here a few times, it's not a huge park at approximately 400 acres, but it is big enough,…read moreand absolutely beautiful at certain times in the spring with an abundance of azaleas and rhododendrons producing a plethora of spectacular blossoms. There are two popular running and hiking trails, Eames Pond via old Bringham Road (1.8 miles) and Davis Hill Field/Laurel Hill Loop (1.7 miles). We hiked most of these two on this visit. There are many other trails for hiking, walking and exploring including the Black Hill Road Trail, Azalea Path and Judy's Secret Garden Loop Trail. Many of these feature beautiful azaleas, rhododendrons and other flora to be admired in the Spring. Eames Pond offers nice views, from the bridge and some of the trails. There is also a lovely cascading stream, small waterfall, sawmill and other historic buildings. There are some picnic tables scattered about, I could argue Moore needs more of these! That said, Moore needs a lot more parking. The lot is small, and many people park alongside the road, making it difficult for two cars to pass. Overall, this is a very pleasant park to visit, and you can take dogs on a leash. Note that there is no swimming here.

This little pond borders a cemetery, and has a paved walking path divides it, and connects South street to Essex street. On any given afternoon people are there fishing, walking their dogs, and hanging out. It's a quiet spot that's really pretty, and since it's so close to the park in town center, it's easy enough to build a walking route through it that'll help you get some exercise in the great outdoors!

Lots of port-a-john near the beaches and a building closer to parking. No swimming was allowed at the beaches. Plenty of fishing though. Nice place to walk and look for shells. The mansion gardens are small and beautiful. Lots of colorful plants. Graceful collonade. Definitely a nice spot for photos. Lots of pollenators enjoying the gardens too. Pathways through the park are a mix of paved and gravel. Watch out for goose poop when crossing through the fields. Pets are welcome on a leash and be sure to pick up after them. State parks are "carry in, carry out" so there are no trash bins. Be sure to bring your own trash bag to dispose of your trash at home.

I bring a handful of almonds because I heard peanuts were no good for squirrels. Occasionally a blue Jay will follow you flying from tree to tree. You can walk along the lake for a bit if your feet prefer softer ground but then you have to get back on the tar again. You might see a couple of beautiful swans, geese and ducks. But don't feed them bread. A bag of defrosted mixed vegetables is okay. There are a few benches along the way. There are no potty facilities so go before you go. I'm wondering if taking my kayak would be worthwhile because it's such a small lake. It really should be called a pond. It is rather cute and I wish it had a bench close to the parking lot so I can bring my guitar and not disturb the neighbors. It is also a neighborhood and the people living there keep it nice.

This led me to pay close attention to what other animals were around. I came across a couple birds, one more mink, and a lot of Canada geese, some of which were chilling on a house's lawn. They were fearless and started coming towards me but stopped about 6 feet away. The loop around the body of water is about half a mile so it makes for a perfect casual stroll; a lot of people were walking their dog, talking on the phone, or on a run. Two sides of this park has houses, and it seems like people respect the neighbor's privacy and peace since it was quiet. There's a dock to fish, along with other spots. There's a little library where you can take/drop off books. They have lots of benches along the way and the entire path is paved. There is a parking lot across the park; it seems like it belongs to a school so in the summer it's convenient to park there but it might be a different story during the school year.
