The food is good but the service could use some improvement as far as answering the phone because people do call to place to-go orders. Multiple times my co-workers and myself have tried to call down there to place a to-go order for lunch and every single time they never answer the phone. We end up sending one of the co-workers to make the order and wait for it. Today, upon arriving at the restaurant after calling a few times to place our order, it was discovered that there were only 2 customers in the restaurant eating... so clearly not busy at all. When told that we tried calling a few times the waitress shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know where the phone is". Today was the last time we will be spending our money there, which is sad because we would rather spend our money on the local food places instead of the chain fast food places. read more

I went there for lunch last week and it was so good, I went twice. First off, the people who work there are super nice. Made my son and I feel at home. They were attentive and made sure we always had refills of our drinks. The first time we had the chicken sandwich special. Wow! One of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. Good spice, good crunch, tender chicken. I'm getting hungry thinking about it. The next time we had the sloppy Joe special. We thought this was good but not as magnificent as the chicken sando. I did not get but I saw some people get salads there and they looked amazing and will need to try next time I am in town. I will go back for two reasons. The food and the people. read more

We rolled here solely by a Yelp locator to find downtown and then eyeball whatever looked good. What a beautifully executed piece of stupidity on my part! This place was amazing! It looked way too upscale for feeding a teenager lunch, but the menu revealed very reasonable costs, so we gave it a shot. I asked Teresa for advice between the beaded tenderloin and the Fajita chicken salad. Went with the salad. It was done off the most succulent, savory chicken I've ever eaten! Our family loves coming to Jerrys Again! We love so many things on the menu, especially the variety in specials. They also have a great kids menu! We never leave without ordering a piece of pie, and grabbing a famous candle on the way out. When our extended family is in town, we always order a pie to go. They a huge hit! We went here for the first time for a Wednesday lunch. The menu is small and nothing really imaginative on it, just "regular" stuff. We shared a reuben and a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The reuben had a generous amount of meat and was grilled perfectly. The Nashville hot chicken was a fried chicken breast with a kick of spice. It would have been great except it was drenched in honey which made it too sweet. Their potato salad is also very sweet, must have alot of sugar and then sweet pickles in it as well - I did not care for it. We shared a piece of peanut butter and chocolate pie - I am fine with saving the sugar for where it belongs - dessert. The pie was wonderful! read more

The building is gorgeous; so I'll have to admit I had somewhat high expectations. The charm and hope fell completely flat as soon as I walked through the door. They had enough staff for 2 serves per table, but yet somehow weren't greeted or acknowledged right away. We ordered the "special" and felt like I was eating food straight from Sam's club. It's okay... I really want to like Jerry's: great location, great comeback story, awesome ambience. The regular menu is full of clunkers. The specials, however, are usually pretty good. The locals rave about the pies, but at the risk of speaking Atchison blasphemy, I'll just say that they don't live up to the hype. Service ranges from competent to glacially slow. You just never know. The restaurant business is all about consistency, and unfortunately Jerry's just isn't all that consistent. If Nell Hill's (the local shopping haven for rich suburbanites) wasn't a block away, I don't think Jerry's would last. NB: The private dining service upstairs from Jerry's is quite good. I've had several of their meals and they do a first-rate job. read more

Of course, we wish Jerry's Again was open regularly for dinner. It's not. Being "immigrants" to Atchison, we've heard the Jerry's story, so I guess we're happy it's still open, albeit on a limited basis - mainly weekdays and Saturdays for lunch. Lately they've had a Saturday evening opening once a month or so. Jerry's Again compares well with all the locally-owned eateries in town . . . not Kansas City quality, but not Kansas City prices either. You get prepared-on-site food - mostly salads, soups and sandwiches - at a fair price point. I'm out-of-town during the week, so I don't get to Jerry's too often. My wife lives and works in Atchison full-time, but she's doesn't Yelp*, so reporting is up to me. The location and venue are one of the best parts of the Jerry's experience . . . downtown (5th & Kansas) in a century-old, well-maintained building. Grab a quick lunch if you must, but why hurry? Relax. Enjoy! As noted the menu is mostly lunch fare but offers a good variety. It's a nice break from the everything-fried lunch dives that proliferate in small-town Kansas, although you can get it "with fries" if you like. You can eat reasonably healthy at Jerry's. Since I don't require it, I can't speak to the vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options or accommodations. Just ask your waiter; I'm sure she'll help. Jerry's pies are legend around town. You need to ask your waiter about the day's pies and often tell her to "reserve" your pie for after lunch, lest they sell out while you've still got a mouthful of sandwich. The chocolate and the strawberry are the locals' faves. We love living in Atchison, and we love Jerry's . . . Again! read more

The pickins' can be slim in Atchison when it comes to nice dining. That said, I think this is one of the nicer locations in town. The atmosphere of Jerry's Again is classy and welcoming. I visited here during the lunch hour with some colleagues and was disappointed to see no vegetarian options on the menu. When I asked the waitress what she would suggest for my situation, she and I came up with the idea to combine two salad options, which is resulted in a DELICIOUS fajita taco salad. Because of this salad, I will choose this restaurant over others in the future because they were willing to work with my dietary restrictions and produced a winner. Thumbs up. read more

My wife left her keys at Jerry's while eating there there the other day. She did not realize they were locked inside until a bit after 5. I got to ride my bike 30 mile to get her car the next day so I had lunch. I am not sure what people expect, reading these other reviews you would think this place is lousy. I had a Ruben that had the perfect mix of ingredients. The homemade potato salad was so good I wanted more. I did not know about the pie but was asked if I wanted some. Strawberry of course! Homemade whipped cream, giant berries...oh yes. Never mind the others, go to Jerry's for lunch. And good for them that they aren't open for dinner, maybe their family time is more important than that, check out the pictures on the wall, this is a family place! read more

My friend and I were going to Nell Hill's and so we wanted to find somewhere nearby to eat lunch. We looked online before we went in an attempt to find a local gem. Well we were disappointed. We both had chicken salad sandwiches, which were okay, but nothing special. We had read that the pies here were really good, so we decided we definitely had to save room for pie. They only had 2 choices, a chocolate cream pie or a berry pie. Well berry pie I only like with ice cream. I asked if I could get ice cream with it and she said they didn't have any (I assume they were out because their menu listed ice cream.) So then we both opted for the chocolate cream pie. It wasn't very good. I think it was old. The crust was stale. It would have been better if it wasn't old, but I suspect it still wouldn't be really good. Our server was nice, but she did forget about us at the end. The decor was nice and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. Overall, we were really disappointed and wished we had picked someplace else. read more

I just had the most delicious apple dumpling al a mode at Jerry's Again. I like to stop in for lunch and never miss a dessert when I do. The atmosphere and the staff are so pleasing and the new little gift area at the front of the store is a great idea. This is a wonderful small-town restaurant! The food is always fresh, tastes wonderful, and has a great home-made feel to it. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and feels very clean. It's a great place to stop by when visiting local shops in town.
