Been shopping here for a while for paint and markers. They have an amazing selection of markers, mops, inks, etc and consistent hours. The dude that works here is super helpful and always has suggestions if you're not sure what exactly you need. Cost wise, I don't think it's cheap, but the prices are all fair. Instant gratification and being able to look at the stuff before buying gives this place a +1 over ordering supplies online. read more

I have only been to a few different art stores so I cannot provide an in-depth review so here is my simple take on Jerry's Artarama Houston. I needed to purchase some art supplies for a class and had a list of supplies that were foreign to me. The cashier at the register was pretty cool (I forgot her name but I remembered she likes to draw landscapes). I guess I looked a bit lost so after she finished with her customer at the register she came over and asked if I needed assistance. I am thinking in my head, Thank you for the save! She patiently helped me find everything on my list and as I am walking backwards down an aisle, I tripped and almost fall over a stack of sketch tablets...she did not blink, smirk or laugh. I forgot one more item on the same aisle and was walking backwards again and guess what tripped on the same stack....even though she saw I was embarrassed, she did not crack a laugh until I made fun of myself. Cool vibe and nice place to grab your basic art supplies. A drawing lamp caught my eye so I will be back. read more

I have been getting back into painting and needed to buy sets of new oil paints. The prices there are the best around, even less than Dick Blick. I have been lucky enough to catch some amazing sales and continue to go back because the prices, service and amount of products they carry are amazing. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. This art store is almost perfection. Are you an artist's artist? ...Do you find Sennelier paints, Kolinsky brushes, Copic markers, and Caran D'ache crayons and pencils virtuous materials? Do your fingertips detect the tooth of paper, while calculating the glide of the drawing utensil? Do you paint life size or larger and need canvasses and stretcher bars a *minimum* of 8 feet tall or wide? Is the making of art approached with focus, drive and gravity? In many ways, this place is even beyond Texas Art Supply, in it's heyday. Note: What's not in our local Jerry's Artarama store might be found at headquarters. My background: BFA from U.T. Austin. First cut at Whitney Studio Program and Yale's MFA program. MFA from Pratt, and (I unwisely) declined acceptance into Columbia University's MFA program. Skowhegan Residency alumn. I love and respect the practice of Art. For a decade, I did the weekly rounds of SOHO, Chelsea, and Williamsburg, and of course the seasonal rounds at MoMA, Whitney, New Museum, etc. I've travelled to a scant more other countries for their galleries and museums. I've been obsessed! Jerry's Artarama is a haven for art makers. It's not perfect yet, but it could be well on it's way. Note the aforementioned materials! It's a franchise willing to grow this particular store, says a Houston staff person. For me, the bellwether of the 2008 economy crash was when the specialized art stores of NYC fell into a progressively sad state of a standard selection. Quickly then, they all closed down. The in-person array I've longed for since then is at Jerry's. Recommendation: Get a free membership card here, and begin or resume your collection of high caliber art materials, or sign up the artist in your life. Upgrade your loved artist from Prismacolor. The daily prices are good, the monthly sales are impressive (sometimes I have to reread the mailer bc the sale prices are that good), and there's membership discounts on top of all that. This place is like a fable. I'm so lucky it's near my Tuesday work, but I've driven here when it's not, bc the selection and prices are worth every mile. read more

Every time I go in I leave happy! Yeah the custom framing is pricey, but how greatly do you treasure your artwork? They have an abundant amount of paints with a huge variety of colors! I would definitely recommend this spot any day and I travel, on a good day, 30 minutes just to go here. Some times even an hour with traffic! Very knowledgeable staff as well! I came to Jerry's Artarama looking for a beginning painters set to give to my significant other after she expressed interest in wanting to begin painting. I asked one of the staff, Amber for help in this endeavor and she was delightful. Amber asked what kind of painting she wanted to try and after learning it was acrylic walked me through the different paints they had, from cheaper acrylic paint to more expensive multi sets, helped me pick out a couple of canvasses and what best brushes a beginner could use. At checkout, I wasn't able to learn their names but the other two people I met were pleasant and nice to talk to. If my girlfriend enjoys painting and gets into it, I'll be sure to return here again to grab anything else she might need. read more

Went in to get a quote about framing a poster. First quote was around $800, so obviously went somewhere else. After getting a quote for the SAME FRAME/MOLD for $300, we went back to Jerry's to make sure they didn't make a mistake because we live close and try to support the locals. They then gave us a quote of $1000!!!!! Long story short...if you want custom framing, go somewhere else. We went to Morningside Art in Rice Village area (yes, somehow Rice Village is less expensive than Jerry's!) and got a good deal. read more

I went on line as I was shopping for an easel. The website these guys have is really an eye opener with all the sales, free stuff, etc. so I started a chat. The person suggested I come to the store-which I did. Bought the easel, paints, brushes etc. very disappointed when I asked for the additional 15% discount and the free tube of white oil paint which is what's promoted on the website. I was then told by the cashier that the website has their own sales which are different than what they offer in house. Bait and switch and I feel deceived. Huge warehouse and helpful staff. Friendly and very helpful staff - they always ask me if I need help with anything. It's also very well stocked and organized - not picked over. The prices I don't think can be beat. When I first started oil painting, I went to Michael's for supplies. Ha! That was an expensive rookie mistake! Michael's and Hobby Lobby prices are outrageous compared to Jerry's. They have really good prices on oil paints and canvases. I love and recommend the location in Willowbrook area in Houston. I've been to the one in Austin and it was very picked over - lots of canvases out of stock and damaged - and I wasn't a big fan of how it was laid out. Also the employees will literally stand right next to you and not ask if you need help. read more

I live within walking distance of Texas Art Supply in Montrose yet I drive all the way out to willowbrook to get my art supplies at Jerry's. Texas Art has continually raised their prices in recent years to the point where it is worth it for me to make the drive. In addition to their low prices, Jerry's also has a great selection including several high end import brands which cannot be found anywhere else such as Matisse acrylics from Australia. They also stock the full line of Golden acrylics which Texas Art supply has been banned from selling due to quibbling with the manufacturer over prices. read more

Great store, great selection, good prices. A much larger store than I expected. Runs a close second to Texas Art Supply for sheer number of goods. They certainly have good deals and then extra deals if you look for them. I do have to say that if you collect all of the coupons for Michael's or Hobby Lobby you do come out cheaper but if not they run 15-20% cheaper day in and day out. That and they absolutely will have what you're looking for. Check in with Yelp for a 15% discount and sign up for their frequent flyer card for an additional 10% off. My new go to store if you don't want to head down town and even then you'll still save money. read more

No kidding, lowest prices at Jerry's Artarama. The store is easy to navigate and if you get lost or need help looking for something specific, a worker will politely and gladly help you. They often have sales on canvases where a certain brand will be 10% if you buy a certain number or sometimes even 15%. My bf does origami and loves their selection of paper and fabrics, they even have the exotic papers he loves to work with! They recently had a tent sale and I was able to snag a couple of frames for a dollar and some for three dollars, a great deal considering the original price was above 50 bucks for each one! I visited the Taylor Street location. It's without a doubt my favorite art store!! Everything is way less than retail price. Much better deal than going to Hobby Lobby or Michael's. Totally worth the drive. I came here to buy Copic markers since the online price was about 30% off original price. They were $6.29 each, which is almost two dollars cheaper per piece. I was going to use my Yelp 15% off check-in coupon but a worker was happy to give us an almost twice that at 28% off our entire purchase! I ended up getting 6 markers and a 2-piece canvas set. So, originally, my total was going to be about $53 plus tax. With the Jerry's low prices, my sub-total was about $42, and with the extra 28% off, our total with tax was $32.53! I got the Copic markers for about $4 each, which is half off the retail price! Within the first few minutes I walked in, I was greeted by at least two clerks. The Copic marker section and the store was set neatly set out. I picked up exactly what I needed and left. The location is a little far from my house, 30 minutes down and back, but it was so worth it for the discounts and deals! 11/10 would recommend!! read more

I came in to get something custom framed. Since my print was fairly normal-sized, the nice lady working at the framing desk suggested that I look at the discount bin for already-made frames. Lo and behold, I found something that worked with my print, and she had it matted and done before my eyes in 10 minutes. It was very cool to watch the assembly process since they usually do that "in the back". The price was fantastic and it looks great. I didn't have a chance to look at anything else but I will be back for my next project. read more

Visited the Taylor Street location in hopes of finding multiple brands of open stock pencils. They did not have much to choose from, but the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. Although they didn't have what I wanted in store, I was able to buy it online. All of the items I shopped for were cheaper at Jerry's versus Texas Art Supply. I grabbed a pencil or 3 to try at TAS, then ordered online with Jerry's. I will continue to shop here. read more
