Icons like these are so hard to come by and when I came back to the states, I knew I would have to get them redone. Jay took the time to create several different design options, and offered a unique design idea that not only added more visual interest but also saved me money. He was mindful of my budget and reused materials he already had on hand to keep the cost down. Project was finished much earlier than expected. Edit: I finally was able to recover my art. It took a complaint with the BBB, a certified demand letter and few calls to the police. I was returned my art exactly like i left it. Not stretched or framed, even though Jay told me "it's stretched on the frame" and "NEARLY framing completed". Don't trust a thing this guy says. Dropped off items last November. After months of non-communication from Jay's Frames, and still waiting to receive my item, I've started escalating my case like so many who have posted here. I started with my credit card company, and the BBB. Next steps will be law enforcement and the DA for legal action. I told Jay I would be escalating my concerns if I didn't hear from him, still radio silent. The location at 1440 Yale no longer exists. I spoke with the broker whose name is on the sign out front. She told us the property was sold to someone who is renovating it to resell. We went to the address someone else has posted about in a previous yelp review and it is a co-working space. No Jay to be found. ***To everyone posting here about items currently in possession of Jay - I opened a case with the BBB. A family heirloom oil painting fell off my wall and seriously damaged the vintage frame. I called Jay and he let me bring it in right away. I used to go here because Jay did good work but this last few months have been awful service. No explanation of why there was a several-month delay, won't pick up the phone or answer the door, and does not communicate via email. Go somewhere else! Be better Jay May 3, 2023 update: after more than fifteen unanswered calls, emails and stopping by in person to see a closed store. Jay finally responded!! To answer your question why I didn't say anything, i was more concerned about getting my belongings back than complaining to someone who wasn't going to do something. What was I going to say? Your voicemail on your business line make you sound like a crazy person? Your store inside now looked like you are barely holding it together? Your staff probably quit because you are an awful business owner? It's not on the customer in a service industry to point out a clear mistake on the store's part. You were clearly aware that people (from other online reviews) were upset for the lack of communications and some didn't think they would get their stuff back. It's on you to reach out, call your customers, and let them know their, sometimes one-of-kind, or highly sentimental items are going to be returned to them. I told my wife I was going to the police if you didn't open the door, and people honestly should. Pick up the damn phone or return people's emails. You should have been proactive about your mistake. You weren't. A customer shouldn't be coming up with ways to remedy the situation that is the fault of the store owner. Keep the money instead of offering a discount for a project that was five months late. That's ok. I was trying to help by saying you would eventually do the right thing and be given a chance. It's now November and I've not received anything. I have reached out through text, only to be reprimanded, ignored or placated. Family member dropped off an expensive piece of art along with $1000 payment upfront. Understood that projects sometime take longer than expected but nearly six months later and dozens of messages sent with no response, had to get law enforcement involved to recover piece of art ($1000 was not recovered). I have a former co-worker who has used this business in the past with great results but as many recent reviews reflect, things have changed and the owner is no longer responsive and often times aggressive. WARNING TO ANYONE CONSIDERING JAY'S FRAMES: I literally just had to call the police to get my things back from Jay's Frames!!! From what I understand, Jay's Frames has done great work for its customers in the past, and they have even done some fantastic framing for us before. But something has changed there recently, and I seriously caution anyone from taking their business to Jay's, or even physically going there. In a nutshell, we took some things into Jay's to be framed in early Feb 2024 and paid in full, $1,000.00. We were told it would be ready in 2 weeks. We never received any proactive updates, but anytime we reached out for status, we were told it would be ready in a week, multiple times, only for that never to happen. Then this morning, after 5 months, we received a blast text telling us that due to all sorts of troubles for the business, we wouldn't receive our framed items for another "9.67 weeks", whatever that means. So I just replied to the text asking for a date certain that we were guaranteed to have it by, and the response was a refusal to give any kind of guaranteed date. So I simply replied that I was coming to get my things and to tell me when I could expect my full refund. The response was to send the same blast text from this morning again. So I personally went to the business to get my things back, as they have sentimental value to my family. The business owner was there, and when I told him who I was and why I was there, the guy completely lost it. Literally screaming, got in my face more than once; he was totally out of control. I'd never seen anything like it. He wouldn't let me speak, but every time there was a break, I'd just calmly ask for my things back. So finally he agreed to go get my things, but only as long as I waited outside. So I went out to my car. As I was waiting, a woman pulled up into the parking lot. She asked me if the owner was there, and I explained the situation to her and that I didn't feel comfortable with her going inside after what I had just experienced. She was in the same boat as me, and had been waiting since January for her frames. I offered to accompany her in, and she accepted. Just then, the business owner emerged and continued his tirade. He finally agreed to let the woman in to get her things. As she was leaving, he continued his tirade and then began making threats. The nice woman and I exchanged phone numbers as he continued his tirade. I told him I would wait in my car for 5 more minutes and I would then leave. The woman called me and offered to be a witness of some kind if I needed it. I thanked her and said I just wanted my things back. She suggested I contact the police if I was going to try to get my things again. I agreed with her suggestion, and called the Constable. They sent an officer there to meet me, and we got my things back. Yes, that all really happened just about an hour ago. I literally had to call the police to get my things back from Jay's Frames!!! It was obvious to the woman and I that the business owner is experiencing some kind of mental crisis, and I really hope he gets the help he needs. But in the meantime, I think it's best that people avoid this business based on my experience, which is why I wanted to write this review. read more

I dropped off two different orders. One in 2/24 and one in 3/24 and have since been completely ghosted. Jay vacated his old space with no forwarding information and now does not respond to any texts and his voicemail is full. I just want my artwork back, several pieces that were painted by my grandmother, and no longer care that it is completed. Wondering if anyone has been able to retrieve their artwork? Sadly, my next step will need to be filing a complaint with BBB and the police for theft. read more

Extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and professionalism from this company. I have paid over $1k in frames from them and it's been over months without any real updates or consideration to the customer. My first order was on January 28, 2023 and I still have not received it. I have tried calling, emailing, and stopping by the store. Jay's Frames is currently holding two art pieces, one of them personally and monetarily valuable while also charging a steep price for work that was not done in a timely manner and behaving completely unprofessional. Responsible adults and business owners communicate and take responsibility of their actions. At this point I just need my artwork back, and they refuse to answer to customers. I had used Jay's services once and was pleased. The second time I used him was a complete nightmare. I paid upfront and kept getting the run around on a completion date. First it was 12 weeks, then another 12 weeks. Then another 12 weeks. When I finally got tired of the run around, I went to pick up my art pieces. Jay became so combative. Like extremely off. Like he was having a mental break down. He tried to fight my husband and then turned around to say he was going to call the police because my husband hit him. Which never happened. Then he started ranting and raving about his mother having cancer. Then he told us to get the hell off his property before he calls the police. All of the art we had framed by Jay's Frames turned out wonderfully!! We had a large order (10+ pieces) so it did take quite awhile to get all of the pieces finished, but we were very happy with the finished products. The communication with Jay isn't always consistent, but we eventually got everything framed as designed in the initial meeting. I will gladly work with Jay's Frames again once he gets settled into his new location and works through his current workload. read more

I found Jay's Frames through a local Yelp search after buying 2 paintings at the First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights. The Yelp reviews had high ratings and I wanted to check it out for myself. Plus we had 3 other paintings we'd been meaning to frame with us in the car. Jay's Frames is located in a bright aqua-blue house on Yale Street. There is a small parking lot in the back and you can park your car out front as well. There were no other customers in the place when we stopped by that afternoon so we were taken care of very quickly. Tamar (sorry not sure if I spelled her name correctly) was our salesperson and she was very friendly from the start. They have a large amount of frame selections and we were pretty overwhelmed since we're fairly ignorant about the framing process. Luckily Tamar gave us great recommendations and was very patient as we made decisions for each painting we needed framed. We had no idea how much work and selection there is in framing artwork. We spent about 1.5 hours there picking out matting and frames for 5 paintings. If you get tired, there are stools available to sit in as well complimentary, cold bottled water. Oh and added bonus- they were dog friendly and allowed our bored pups to sit with us the whole time we were there! Fast forward to 2.5 weeks later....Jay called to inform us that our paintings were ready for pickup. We opted for the $75 delivery and hanging service which took one hour (additional $$ fee if it takes longer than one hour to hang the paintings). Jay personally came to our house, at the scheduled time, to deliver and hang all 5 paintings. He helped us decide which paintings looked best at each location in the house and even helped us hang an additional painting we had at home for no additional charge. He was so easy-going and attentive, I would recommend his store and services to anyone!! All of the finished paintings and frames look amazing in our house- Tamar really has a great eye for what she does and guided us in making excellent selections. We had no idea just how a single frame can really pop up a painting. Prices were definitely more than we had expected but after a thorough search they were fairly reasonable in comparison. Just remember, you get what you pay for and we are extremely satisfied with Jay's Frames's work. I wouldn't hesitate to you use them again. read more

I was giving this place a try, but they made it far too difficult. Very strange during COVID-19. They want you to drop off your art and then they'll FaceTime you to select your frames. Things don't look the same on camera as in life. I'm not going to spend money on something I can't see or touch. Especially for art framing. I appreciate they're trying to get by, but people should be able to come in with a face mask. Otherwise, why be open at all? Maybe I'll give them another try when they unclench. read more

Terrible customer service! Frame job took over two months to complete! Called several times to check on order and no one answers the phone. Their message asks you to email them and then they don't answer emails l. After nine emails over a several week period, they finallly emailed to tell me it was ready. I drove 35 minutes to pick it up and they couldn't find my order! Had to drive 35 minutes again to pick it up a second time. No apology, no nothing! I had the best experience at Jay's Frames. Erica W was a dream to work with since I knew very little about the process, but I knew I wanted my prints framed. Erica worked with me to choose the right frame and color as well as the print layout that would look the best. Others in the shop helped too. The best part was that she geeked out with me about Star Trek. They initially made a mistake on my piece on January 20th, but the owner is very responsible and committed to fix the issue. So on February 9th, I got my piece done and fixed. The piece looks neat, classic, and incredible. If you are looking for a cheap place, this will not be the place. But if you are looking for a place to have your piece beautifully framed with great work and reasonable price, you should definitely give it a try. read more

Great experience from start to finish. I went in to have two canvas paintings re-framed. I wanted to ensure that whoever did the work would do it right because the paintings were done by my late grandmother so there is quite a bit of sentimental value. I chose Jay's Frames based on Yelp reviews. And, as usual, Yelp didn't let me down. The friendly folks up front greeted us immediately and assured me that they would be available to help just as soon as they were free--it took 5-10 minutes. I enjoyed eavesdropping (LOL) on the conversations being had with other customers and seeing the team in action. As soon as was possible, my two paintings were examined and I was presented with several frame options. The attendant helping me was able to find the perfect options! We chose Jay's Frames based on positive Yelp reviews and location. We also like supporting local small businesses. We had not framed anything since moving to Houston. We brought a large painting on vellum by an artist friend, a vintage poster, three wedding portraits and an abstract painting. All completely different styles. They have a huge array of frames and matting options. Jay has a very nice demeanor and lots of patience. We were traveling quite a bit and picked up our frames items almost two months later. Everything looks perfect. I could not be more pleased with the quality of their work. The price was very reasonable. The large painting was too large for our car. We used their delivery and hanging service. All 6 items were perfectly hung within an hour. That was $75 well spent! It would have taken us considerably longer to do it ourselves. read more

This is getting 4 stars because it took THREE AND A HALF MONTHS, 2 months over what they originally told me, to get this back. The frame I selected was out of stock, which I understand, but no one ever followed up with me to let me know, and when I was upset about this, they didn't do anything to win future business. After reading of other positive experiences, I found myself walking into Jay's Frames with a piece that I'd been meaning to get framed for awhile. I was helped by Tyler, who was very easy to talk to and easy on the eyes ;) All jokes aside, Tyler understood what I was going for right away. I was really impressed by his professionalism and knowledge. I didn't feel rushed or pressured at all. After explaining what I wanted he brought out plenty of options. Come to find out he got it right on the first frame! I really appreciated him showing me a variety of options. The price was very fair. They called when it was ready for pick up.
