Once we arrived, we wanted to stock our place and that included seeking out some local brews for the fridge. After a quick Yelp search we found that this liquor store was within walking distance and had great reviews - check and check! I have to say that this part of Saint Paul is not my favorite. The best way I can describe it, which won't be helpful to most people (I'm sorry!), is that it feels like downtown Kansas City ca. 2000. Meaning, it's fine, but it feels really vacant on the weekend, a bit dirty, with a feeling of "watch out, you might get mugged!" mixed in. This liquor store is nestled right into that mix and it kind of fits the vibe of this part of the city. It's small, dated, and could use some cleaning. Overall though, I'll say that the folks working here were super friendly, and that they had a decent selection for such a small place. We found some fun beers to try and were in and out quickly. If I lived in the area I'd probably look for another one that felt like it was in a little bit of a safer area, or if liquor laws permit purchasing beer and wine at the grocery store, I'd just go there instead.

Based on reviews I chose East Lake and stopped in. As you can imagine it was pretty much empty on a Thursday around 1pm. Other reviews mentioned the great prices, I wouldn't say anything I looked at was a good deal- pretty average pricing if not more. As a reminder, this isn't total wine so if you're looking for cheaper options based on buying in bulk this is not the place. But if you're looking to support a local business and the community then come on over. Staff were friendly and helpful. Didn't seem to mind answering questions or giving recommendations when asked. Checking out was super simple and it was nice to see more customers coming in. I hear the shirts are a hot commodity here, I didn't see them but heard they only have smalls left lol. I'll definitely stop back in when I'm in the area and would recommend checking out.

While a bit industrial in look and layout, there is quite the selection of beer, wine, and spirits to choose from! That's less than 1/2 price of any other retailer's sale price. I thought it was an error in the email, so I phoned the store to see if the price was correct and if there was enough inventory to cover the day's business, so there would be some when I got to the store the next day. The woman said there were several cases at the head of the store, but to be safe I should go to the store's website and place and pay for my order, which I did do. When I went for pick-up, I looked around and spent an additionally substantial chunk of change on other sale spirits, including Balvenie Caribbean Cask Scotch. I had a chance to chat with one of the staff and said I was surprised to see on Yelp that there were some negative reviews of store staff manners. He said ownership of the store has changed since those negative reviews and that the current owner stresses customer appreciation.
